Is The Human Target really capeshit? The capes are incidental. It's a hard boiled detective story.
Dashiell Hammett type work.
>detectives
Yes capeshit, just like spy stories, sci-fi and any fantasy story with a dragon or "magic systems"
>Is The Human Target really capeshit?
Yep. Ice is so ridiculously powerful her mere presence turns the comic into capeshit.
How did this win for best penciller?
Comics have a) an inferiority complex and b) nostalgia addiction.
If it looks slightly artsier than a normal comic and specifically like mid-century commercial art? Doesn't matter how much it actually resembles mediocre colouring book art, people will cum all over it.
"oooh this looks like something my grandfather might have read plus the JLI that I read when I was young and the world seemed full of promise but also it's sad so it is TOTALLY ADULT TOO? AWARDS!!!1!!!"
Come on now.
I agree on the artsy farts aspect of some of these books. But what Smallwood did here is extremely well crafted and all of it intentional, mixing various levels of detail depending on faces, fabric and background, to lead to better readability and stark colors for a soft mood.
I'm sad about solid artists like Greg Smallwood and David Aja being wasted on mediocre or worse books.
Funny how you were all sucking his dick when he was at Marvel but now that he's at DC he's the worst ever.
It's capeshit.
Especially Zdarsky's Public Domain, moron.
It blows my mind that comics just can't move away from capeshit, even the fricking emotional family dramas have to revolve around fricking capeshit.
Anom, Public Domain is a comic book about comic book industry. No wonder it won a comic book industry award.
>Anom, Public Domain is a comic book about comic book industry.
Specifically capeshit.
Hence my post.

Don't start copying the movie shills anon.
Anything ACTUALLY good here, and worth paying attention to?
I'm going to count this as metacapeshit. Which still counts. This is Morrison's fault.
Yeah same with movies, everything that comes out it capeshit like move on already
Tynion won for all his horror comics. He hasn't done a superhero book since he left Batman.
This isn't all the picks.

Maybe now Taylor will actually progress the story now that he’s got his eisner, instead of stopping the story every four issues for an Eisner bait oneshot
that's a lot of shit
Best Writer/Artist
Kate Beaton, Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands (Drawn & Quarterly)
Best Graphic Memoir
Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands, by Kate Beaton (Drawn & Quarterly)
These aren't good.
That's what you deserve
Tynion is far from my favorite writer but I have nothing but respect for him when it comes to his success
I don't because he's an example of cronyism. He got his job because he was Snyder's student and I guess law of averages means one of these hacks ends up successful.
Yes, but he's both way, way better, and way, way smarter than the dozens of other Snyder students who got chances because of that. He is different from the Marguerite Bennetts, the Tony Patricks, the Kyle Higgins (which is pretty good, but not very smart about personal or career choices at all), the Mags Visaggios, etc.
Redondo deserves all the praise he gets for Nightwing. They should have won in 2022.
Over Jimenez’s art in his Historia issue? Absolutely not.
Eisner winners now are just people the main companies are trying to push. Since they desperately need new marquee writers. It's why King, Taylor, and Tynion are winning.
Though how did Redondo not win for best penciller?
Which publisher is pushing who?
It's the industry pushing them. Here it was DC's creators. It kind of comes in waves. They target who the new-ish writers are they want to push and then load them up with awards.
What about the ones from Image?
Image doesn't have the pull it used to have, but Chip Zdarsky was their big winner and he is also someone being pushed by DC atm. Hasn't he been writing Batman for them? Which is one of their premiere books. King and Tynion both write it recently and were given Eisners now and in past years while writing it.
> Image doesn't have the pull it used to have
Who do they have and how do they fare?
They're the same people, anon.
>Redondo not win for best penciller?
When Jeminez and Dan Mora exist? The guy is outclassed and his lineart is flat. He needs colours for his art to shine, but not them.
Mora and Jeminez weren't nominated for penciller.
All of them are a decade into being at DC with King in particular as been a popular/big writer for the last 7 and Tynion is winning for his non capeshit stuff
Taylor tho yeah he's been pushed as the next big thing at DC since Williamson has flopped 3 events in a row
King has been getting a push for a while. Didn't they give him an Eisner for his awful Batman run that DC cut short because it was selling poorly? It feels like the person they put on Batman is the one they tend to want to push. Snyder, King, Tynion, and interestingly Taylor probably could have had Batman after Tynion left if he wanted but he wanted Nightwing.
No I think Kelly Thompson of all people ended up winning that year. He won the previous year for Vision.
Doubt it. I think it’s more Taylor got saddled with Nightwing after lackluster options. Rumor is he wanted Green Arrow but was denied.
>Didn't they give him an Eisner for his awful Batman run that DC cut short because it was selling poorly?
It wasn't cut because of poor sales. It was cut because Didio wanted him to shill 5G, which he refused and was the plan for Tynion with Joker War before Didio got his ass fired.
Wasn’t one of them nominated for like 5 different things?
>eisners
>relevant
Threadly reminder that pic related has several Eisners and nominations.
Where do people submit these comics? The ones that aren't capeshit. Image comics?
>Panelxpanel.com wins a second Eisner two months after or shut down
The magazine looks kino as frick but I am surprised it made it to 70 monthly issues. Who is gonna pay $3.99 for a magazine when so much stuff is readable online free?
This is like the Oscars-the industry sucking it's own woke dick and celebrating mediocrity.
>A Vicious Circle lost Best Single Issue to King
The only book that deserved to be nominated. Eisners have been bad for years, but it's like they didn't even try this time.
Where are these comics even being submitted to? Literal who mags? The lack of discoverability and big name winners makes me think this shit is rigged.
TT will never let go of Nightwing.
There will be people who think this man is the next Geoff Johns and Nightwing as his Hal Jordan, but really its Redondo carrying his ass.
Yeah honestly. Redondo at least deserves the awards.
>not even woketards care about Marvel
He cute.
Parker Martini Edition won 2 awards so that's nice. RIP Cooke.
