>unforgiving difficulty
I wouldn't say that anon. The grid-based platforming movement handles like a 2D version of a classic Tomb Raider, so while it involves timing jumps correctly to avoid traps or escape death, it's not frame-perfect inputs and is pretty forgiving once you've learned a sequence.
...and the non-dangerous sections are just exploration and basic puzzle solving. Not that difficult.
Yeah I must have been about 10 when it came out and I completed it. I did however have vastly more free time, so it could have been a brute force attempt.
Challenging by todays standards I think is a fair statement.
Personally I take the approach that competition is much more rife now and games as desperate for you not to drop it.
When Abe came out, finding something else to play involved a trip to the shop, so you were incentivised to at least play it for an evening. Now you can download anything at the drop of a hat.
No way a 10 year old found and rescued all the aliums in that game. israeli percent chance.
Oh yeah, almost certainly bad end, but I don't remember that explicitly, I do remember the gas level though at that's pretty much the end.
I think De Niro might have been a producer or something too. It was a huge bomb of a game but I really loved it as a kid. Really interesting design and atmosphere
it also meant they'd always bite off more than they could chew, make promises they couldn't ever deliver on, make claims that were often complete nonsense, etc. sometimes it worked out well, the rest of the time you ended up with munch's oddysee
yeah that's exactly what he is. most of the game developers back then were psychotic.
>what's the hold up
The Legendary Limitous Luscious Lorne Lanning is a neurotic late boomer who burned out his creative spark several years ago & is just a hopeless trend-chaser these days. He's been wanting to make an Oddworld film for decades, but never did since he mismanages he always mismanages his budget.
Someone give me the QRD on Lorne. He seems like one hell of an unreliable narrator.
He's nothing without the talent below him. After the success of oddysee and exodus he moved his studio to SF and lost most of the real talent.
Everything since then has been uninspired or misses what was interesting about the originals.
A lot of people like strangers, though it never spoke to me, but it's worth mentioning it has a following.
Farzad was the real brainchild behind Oddworld. Lanning is like Lucas in that he brings interesting ideas to the table, but he needs a team to help him refine and acheive his goals. He's otherwise hopeless if he's surrounded by yes men, often resulting in overambitious failures like Soulstorm.

It's a mystery
The Legendary Limitless Luscious Lorne Lanning can do anything, except hand over the medical power of attorney of his IP now that he has gone batshit insane
>original is about alice getting over her guilt for her family dying in a house fire >sequel is about her family being murdered by a nonce that was raping her sister and running a pedo ring out of an orphanage the cards in the clouds mission was fun though
The sequel for sure, but not the first game. Kurt's solo in that one. >b-but Bones/Max
Airstrike + final boss usage only. It only works as a video game, and a film/TV adaptation would deviate too far.
Something to do with EA sabotaging the game's marketing, but it had more to do with the release timing + Lorne's failure to realize that the IP is extremely niche to begin with.
It should be a stop motion animation. There's this Japanese short animation about some robot and weird clones that made me think of Oddworld and other old games in similar style. I can't remember the title.
No one remembers your old boomer point-and-click games, grandad
>point-and-click
It's a sidescrolling platformer with unforgiving difficulty, moron.
>with unforgiving difficulty
infinite lives.
>Has a quicksave, even on consoles
>Unforgiving difficulty
Ok moron
Oddysee doesn't have quicksave and was indeed very difficult
There was a lot of checkpoints it wasn't that hard man.
Would you say it's the dark souls of side scrollers, kind stranger? Have my updoot Black person shit!
Ironic redditry is still reddit
You have to go back

This.
Modern gamers are fricking sissies/zoomers who need more hand-holdy bullshit these days.

New Fable when?
Probably in 2025 but you won't like it.
It was owned by Atari which is currently in an ownership black hole. Whoever owns the rights to it probably doesn't even know about it.
no adaptation of 9 either
huh cool, Anne Heche, Ellen Degeneres, Cher, Jim Belushi and others did the voices but I cant find it on steam
I think De Niro might have been a producer or something too. It was a huge bomb of a game but I really loved it as a kid. Really interesting design and atmosphere
creepy game without all the lights being turned off
looks like its abandonware
thanks I think I found a download for it on some abandware site
Been wondering this myself. The owner of this property seems like a dysfunctional buffoon full of hot air
yeah that's exactly what he is. most of the game developers back then were psychotic.
>most of the game developers back then were psychotic.
Better than the soulless corporations of today.

> BRAAAPS
nothing perssonel kid
Used to love brapping in Munch's face in front of my fellow mudokon boys and getting some laughs from them
it's sad that this super laid-back attitude is how they ended up getting enslaved.
goddamn I haven’t thought about this in 20 years
i wanna go back
same brother.
>mudokon voice< “No!”
don't get lost

>that opening scene
>Dayum, that sucks!

>Hey ya little cuties!
>You better stay here!
>Not gonna happen!

He clearly says "Blowaya"

>Why didn't pedowood make a movie where the villains are hideous corporate monsters called ~~*Glukkons*~~ lead by Moloch the ~~*Glukkon*~~
It's a mystery

"Abe's Exoddus"

>creatures that can mind control other forms of life
I understand now.
“jews”
>bran dead frick
oooooo reddit spacing troony
Do you think the odyssey is about you inbred vermin too you fricking reddit spacing moron?
Unironically how the hell did Lanning get away with it?
The Legendary Limitless Luscious Lorne Lanning can do anything, except hand over the medical power of attorney of his IP now that he has gone batshit insane
Oddworld would be a kino setting
They could have made one of those weird cgi movies from the 90’s
They'd probably cast Oddworld as a black guy
That would actually be interesting. I think it should be an Amazon Prime original.
Amazon would try and just make a crappy 2D animated series, we need a 3D animated film akin to Shrek and Antz.
YEAH YEAH HEARD IT BEFORE
Honestly, it would just bomb like the Dark Crystal because of no humans and no generically appealing designs.
For me it was playing the demo and thinking it was possible to access the whole game
Took me 20 years to find the secret area behind one of those barrels at the very start of the game.
can't be the only one who was scared of him as a kid
creepy looking motherfricker
Too "90's" for many
This game was kino I didn't really get sicked into the new one like I did the old ones though.
Hecking CORE MEMORYNO unlocked
Could something be made out of this?
No
but out of the original game? Yes
>original is about alice getting over her guilt for her family dying in a house fire
>sequel is about her family being murdered by a nonce that was raping her sister and running a pedo ring out of an orphanage
the cards in the clouds mission was fun though
If put to film who could play such a kino character? Is it even conceivable to turn it into a movie?
The sequel for sure, but not the first game. Kurt's solo in that one.
>b-but Bones/Max
Airstrike + final boss usage only. It only works as a video game, and a film/TV adaptation would deviate too far.
They were planning one around the time of the Strangers Wrath, but I guess that wasn't as successful as they had hoped.
Something to do with EA sabotaging the game's marketing, but it had more to do with the release timing + Lorne's failure to realize that the IP is extremely niche to begin with.
The game was already basically a movie thanks to the excellent cinematics and dynamic score
If they do make an Oddworld movie it should be based on a Max Casualties speedrun
It should be a stop motion animation. There's this Japanese short animation about some robot and weird clones that made me think of Oddworld and other old games in similar style. I can't remember the title.
Junk Head. Google got better at finding things.
The trailer for new n' tasty was pretty kino and made me want a film
Meh, it was a soulless remake, and yet somehow, Soulstorm made it look more competent by comparison.
Hello.
