The only coherent angle the script has is anti-aristocratic, Ridley being the salt-of-the-earth norfman that he is. Butchers bills of ordinary soldiers, depraved survivor's balls, Marie-Antoinette getting beheaded to Edith Piaf, Whiff of Grapeshot etc etc
doesn't really work in a biopic of a fricking aristocrat tho
>What if we made a movie about one of the greatest generals in history and focused on how he was a cuck loser weirdo while brushing over his greatest battles and what made him great in the first place >That’ll sell our movie
Even if he was portrayed as a weirdo, he should have been a charismatic weirdo who inspired people and was loved and supported. Imagine being a soldier and seeing 50 year old depressed Joaquin mumbling something at you. I'd shoot him in the head out of the mercy of my heart.
They should have just made a movie about Josephine with Napoleon as a secondary character. This jumping between moronic marriage drama and quick battle sequences and then even quicker politics scenes was moronic as frick.
You can't make a single movie about Napoleon, the russian invasion alone is enough for a 12 episode HBO show. They should have hired someone younger and make the movie about his rise to power, from Toulon to his crowning as Emperor, more than that is fricktarded
>trailers and media promos portray Josephine as power-behind-the-throne girlboss >gets mindfricked, forcibly divorced, exiled, cucked by a woman half her age, then dies of coof
got some sick enjoyment out of that at least
I haven't seen the movie yet but I have to ask: how bad is the script? I mention this because on the film's advertising posters the name of the screenwriter always appeared as a selling point.Damn, it was like it was Aaron Sorkin.
it's like a discount 300, napoleon doesn't talk much either.
It tries so hard to make "macho" a bad thing.
like a "haha see this macho was actually a weirdo incel behind closed doors" thing.
It's not notable one way or the other. The pacing is kind of fricked but that's because it's a Ridley theatrical release and it's a biopic of Napoleon condensed into 2.5 hours.
There are moments that are funny. Joaquin excels despite all the seething. There are lots of historical inaccuracies but generally speaking it captures what happened faithfully.
Watched it last week, fricking stupidest most boneheaded movie I've ever seen and I loved it. Especially the mummy scene
>BECAUSE YOU HAVE BOATS
Why even bother going forward with such a weak script? Whoever wrote it should kill themselves.
The pro-bong angle in the script was pretty obvious, especially at the end with Wellington.
>OI SHITRAG MOVE THAT FACKIN GOAT
>wellington sneers about good manners while twirling invisible moustache
>pro-bong

midge
What a moronic take on Napoleon.
I regret watching this dribble.
Captcha : KANG
same
why is the joker wearing that stupid hat
dog shit movie
>being hyped to watch a two hour movie about a midge
first mistake
>short men = bad
>tall men = good
simple as
I liked how the best thing about it was the parts of the soundtrack that were recycled from War & Peace
They used a fricking Bulgarian song for that scene in Russia which is beyond moronic and just shows how much they cared.
Ridley didn't even bother to read so much as a wikipedia article about this guy.
IIRC he left all the '''''research''''' to his screenwriter, who read a single biography of Napoleon and some of Kubrick's unused script
He just took a bunch of paintings and tried to make an assumption based movie around it.
Ridley is senile. No one older than 80 should be directing a film.
And yet
I could see them actually trying to make gladiator 2 good, but they use a DEI as the protag
>I could see them actually trying to make ____________ good, but
Ridley's Scott's career in the past 20 years in a nutshell
Why are they putting so much pressure on that actor? I don't understand. Him and that Dunkirk boy are everywhere now
Why not, they let 80+ year olds be presidents and judges and that never turned out wrong for anyone
lel, anglos do be like that
how is it wrong tho?
>What if we made a movie about one of the greatest generals in history and focused on how he was a cuck loser weirdo while brushing over his greatest battles and what made him great in the first place
>That’ll sell our movie
plus he wasn't even a weirdo, he was described as being very sociable and charismatic.
Even if he was portrayed as a weirdo, he should have been a charismatic weirdo who inspired people and was loved and supported. Imagine being a soldier and seeing 50 year old depressed Joaquin mumbling something at you. I'd shoot him in the head out of the mercy of my heart.

t. frenchies

>whine and complain that the film isn't historically accurate
>seethe and mald that it accurately portrayed how much of a cuck he was
lmao stay mad
>trailers and media promos portray Josephine as power-behind-the-throne girlboss
>gets mindfricked, forcibly divorced, exiled, cucked by a woman half her age, then dies of coof

never trust a bong to make an honest movie about a frog
The Day of the Jackal
Zinneman was a Viennese israelite.
and John Woolf was a bong
for me, it's vanessa kirby
the bonglish genetics are starting to claim her unfortunately
>none of them spoke french or in a french accent
couldn't stomach it for that reason
I disagree with this. I’d rather actors just speak with their regular voice rather than attempting a bad accent. It’s truly less distracting.
should've hired some DEI french americans, not these A-listers.
Ridley is a quantity over quality type director and generally hits more than he misses.
what did he actually hit? Gladiator and Alien?
Yeah, he unironically has 4-5 good movies out of 40.
Look through his filmography. I bet there are movies in there that you like and weren’t even aware he directed them.
AHHHHHHHH WOMAN MAIN ROLE SO I CAN BE AT LOS OSCARES. ALSO FRICK FRANCOS. KEKEKE.
I haven't seen the movie yet but I have to ask: how bad is the script? I mention this because on the film's advertising posters the name of the screenwriter always appeared as a selling point.Damn, it was like it was Aaron Sorkin.

Lol that sounds terrible. Any particularly bad line or dialogue from the movie that you remember?
>This is the biggest one one anyone's done since I've done. The biggest the silent era, in truth.
What did Nolan mean by this?
so..oscar bait?
more like propaganda
ofc its propaganda, but the english man did it so its out of spite also. kek

>Joaquin excels
>it captures what happened faithfully
The most moronic post I've read all day.
>historical inaccuracies
this is a straw-man, nobody is actually upset about this
Oh you wanted gladiator again?
haha too bad here's cuckold incel for you!
Most underrated film of 2024 and biggest awards season snub next to The Killer
