because most of Cinemaphile thinks they're smart when they're actually moronic so they get filtered by shit they missed / didnt understand and make up reasons why people are being "moronic" even though they actually have no concept of what is happening
How do the aliens have a good enough understanding of human neurology and behavior to create the vr game (something they didn't do in the book), yet not realize that humans can lie?
I think that's a bad argument.
They've been fricking up science for some time and they didn't tell the whole world about it.
But the plot needed to be advanced so we get this moronic "you are bugs" scene.
I believe the VR game recruitment tool is co-developed by humans who are on the ayy's side, made by people who over the course of years have been recruited by Ye Wenjie and/or Mike Evans
>How do the aliens have a good enough understanding of human neurology and behavior to create the vr game (something they didn't do in the book),
Uhh, they did do this in the book dude. The whole point of the VR game was to recruit the educated elite into betraying humanity. It's a metaphor for the communist revolution that fricked China up.
In the book the game is played on commercial VR suits. The game is just developed by the ETO based on what details of Trisolaran civilization they have received. It's not impossibly advanced compared to other games.
But this show is not a good example of anything, they traded in the interesting science fiction concepts and gave back a group of multiculti stronk womyn scientists and dumbed down moronic shit. Why did they reduce the entire mainframe to a single red hard drive? What was the point of the nano wires if it was just about one hard drive? Why make the human computer work in seconds when in reality they created a very basic motherboard and would take months for any small complicated calculation? Why make the sophon unfold willy nilly when it took about the energy of the entire trisolarian planet to fold it in the first place? The show is busy dumbing everything down but ironically it makes everything complicated and moronic...
And then i'm talking solely about the structure of the show and choices the creators made, not even about the quality. Because for instance, the scenes with the white cuck were boring and painful to watch. Him just moping around about his oneitis made me feel physical disgust. The fat comic relief character wasn't funny, but whiny and annoying. The acting wasn't good, i missed a central theme in the show, there was ironically too little exposition but way too many forced drama scenes. All in all it was a messy show, and the only reason it wasn't total shit was because the book it was based is genuinely interesting.
>the white cuck were boring and painful to watch. Him just moping around about his oneitis made me feel physical disgust. The fat comic relief character wasn't funny, but whiny and annoying.
Anon, have you ever met bongs in real life? Even their Chads ("Dino's") are fricking whiny pussies when they don't get their way.
He wasn't great to watch but in his defense he got across how cancer people are awful to be around irl and cause a reluctant disgust and not wanting to be around them or think of them
the books are flat and soulless and also have huge plot holes in them with regards to the aliens. i don't know if it's a translation thing but it's like asimov wrote this as an elementary school kid. it's just exposition dumps and every char that shows up is like, "ok here's my story"
this is my problem with the books. some neat ideas, but the writing is pretty terrible. as you said i can't tell if it's a cultural/translation thing or what. maybe the bugs really are just pure soulless husks that can't really express emotion whatsoever.
Wade feels that the best chance to get intel would be a human even if the odds are against this. Moreover this could push science advancement on earth a bit like trying to reach 0.01% speed of light. So its worth a shot just for that
No way am I touching Netflix shit with a ten foot pole, but it's funny hearing secondhand how they fricked it up. Introducing characters from book 2 and 3 early? Not a bad idea, until... Somehow, Sophon-bot got built pre-deterrance, and can freely interfere with humanity on the macro scale? What are they even doing?
It was specifically less expensive than other projects considered at the time because they wanted to dispose world's nuke arsenal anyway, unless that was comppetely cut out lol
I don't have a hate boner for the show but you have to admit it's really really stupid.
The ship scene alone should make you say "what the frick were smoking"
It's just passable. Frankly the source material isn't the hard sci-fi that people like to claim it is and i understand some creative decisions. What i don't understand is all the bullshit drama and "aliens are invading us, but what about hiroshima?". Those "scientists" are completely moronic, aggie or whatever her name was the worst one.
Apparently it's also a thing in the books? i have no idea how slicing a ship into many pieces is supposed to preserve the computers inside, or how it's any better than blowing it up. That whole sequence made me laugh pretty hard.
How do the aliens have a good enough understanding of human neurology and behavior to create the vr game (something they didn't do in the book), yet not realize that humans can lie?
How is it that aliens that are capable of folding space can't figure out how to survive a seemingly basic problem at home?
Why can't they just leave for literally any other planet?
They can create absolute chaos with the sophons, they have control over every computer. So why not just destroy modern civilization outright?
The basic premise doesn't really make sense, like most alien invasion things.
>The basic premise doesn't really make sense, like most alien invasion things.
That's where the problem lies. You're trying to apply human reasoning to aliens.
>How is it that aliens that are capable of folding space can't figure out how to survive a seemingly basic problem at home?
The gravitational interaction of their stars has collapsed their civilization hundreds of times. It's not a basic problem, and they need to get the frick out of dodge. >Why can't they just leave for literally any other planet?
Earth's the only planet they know of that's habitable. It'd be like us saying "LET'S GO COLONIZE ALPHA CENTUAURI!" and then we spend trillions of dollars and hundreds of years getting there to find out everything there is airless sun-cooked irradiated hellzones. If you're going to risk the future of your race, you need certainties. >They can create absolute chaos with the sophons, they have control over every computer. So why not just destroy modern civilization outright?
They want Earth intact. >The basic premise doesn't really make sense, like most alien invasion things.
Alien invasion stories are usually based around a McGuffin, namely that they want our resources, or something we have, or they're just belligerent dickheads. It's a prop for the story and usually doesn't get much care by the author, because who gives a frick? Truly?
In reality, the only reason aliens would bother physically invading Earth is because they want our real-estate. Resources are abundant in the galaxy, any space-faring civilization could wipe out another without sending a single ship, etc. So the only purpose they'd ever have in coming all the way here is because they want our planet for themselves. I thought the author did a good job understanding that.
It's fine or whatever, it's just a sci-fi book so the premise is just supposed to be "cool", but they can just terraform another planet or live in space stations. That's literally earth's solution to initiating the Dark Forest deterrence. They make space stations and hide with plans to just terraform planets in the aftermath of the photoid they think is coming. And this was when humans were still significantly less advanced than the Trisolarans.
The trisolarians also make other plans, earth is just the most appealing. And considering they have crippled our technological advancement there is no real resistance. After their planet get destroyed there are plenty of trisolarians still living in these habitats etc. and they even colonize new planets and there is proof that they joined the super future space civilization.
>they need to get the frick out of dodge.
Shouldn't be a problem for a civilization that can fold protons into supercomputers and build interstellar fleets >Earth's the only planet they know of that's habitable.
Their planet is less habitable than any barren planet in our solar system. How does it even have any water? >It'd be like us saying "LET'S GO COLONIZE ALPHA CENTUAURI!" and then we spend trillions of dollars and hundreds of years getting there to find out everything there is airless sun-cooked irradiated hellzones.
Right, we would survey them first. We can do this now to a limited degree, there's ideas for making telescopes with high enough resolution to image the surface. Should be easy enough for a very advanced civilization to find some suitable candidates and investigate them. >They want Earth intact.
It will be here long after we're gone >In reality, the only reason aliens would bother physically invading Earth is because they want our real-estate.
Real-state is infinite for an actual space-fairing civilization, the value of the earth or any planet like it would come from studying it's biosphere. Aliens would either wipe us out with some superweapon or study us, there's not much of a point to anything else.
We don't what kind of other contingicy plans they have because they are super secretive and we can't spy on them or anything. So everything you're arguing about is just based on the premise that invading earth is their final plan. It's not. It's the easiest/most appealing. God you brainlets are so tiresome.
>We don't what kind of other contingicy plans they have because they are super secretive and we can't spy on them or anything.
Except their plans kinda failed and got everyone sort of wiped out so yes, it was a stupid plan even by the story's own admission.

And again, they were already living on a timer. Sure it sucks that earthlings eventually broadcasted their position but it was a gamble they played where they only lost through sheer bad luck but ultimately made the good decision. Their plans couldn't have calculated that humans found an area with a 4th dimension and that allowed them to kill their biggest weapons...

If they were on timer then they would just leave, as literally anywhere else would be better. As we've already discussed. Pick any space rock with decent mass and relatively stable temperature.
> i have no idea how slicing a ship into many pieces is supposed to preserve the computers inside, or how it's any better than blowing it up.
The main problem was that they had to kill everyone on that ship almost instantly or else the hw would be sabotaged. Killing everyone on cargoship with one explosion would send the cargoship flying with no chance of recovery. Slicing hw corrupts data but it can be still partially recoverable. Moreover the slicers were aranged so that it slices childsized objects, flashdisks are less likely to be sliced.
Except it's not instant. Frankly the netflix show captured how it would look like pretty well, the idea is just comically stupid.

They are, they have space habitats, other planets to colonize, they are making plans to leave this dimension. It's just that earth happens to be the closest star to them and has a habitable planet AND it's populated by monkeys who aren't as technologically advanced and will never catch up. The whole point you're making is that you look at the aliens through the eyes of the humans in the story, but they don't know anything except what the aliens provided. Have some imagination you sperg. >Except it's not instant. Frankly the netflix show captured how it would look like pretty well, the idea is just comically stupid.
it's quicker than sending in the marines, and it's muuuuch safer than bombing it. Got any other ideas genius?

Brilliant, by the time the people realize they are attacked they will press the big red button to destroy all the harddrives and you lose all the data. They even told you this was a bad idea in the show, the fricking show they dumbed down that any fricking moron would understand, yet somehow was still too complicated for you. Please end yourself, you're simply too fricking dumb.

Yeah, they didn't know about the sophons yet. Why not infiltrate the ship with a spy? Or use a chemical agent to gas the inhabitants?

Personally, I think one motivation would be that if a civilisation banned AI (so not the Trisolarians) they may which to acquire sentient slaves.
> i have no idea how slicing a ship into many pieces is supposed to preserve the computers inside, or how it's any better than blowing it up.

Yeah that shit was genuinely hilarious. When the commander says "good job" to the material scientist lady it felt like he was insulting her for completely annihilating the ship even though she was the one hand wringing about the morality of cutting it to pieces. The slow crumbling of the ship into burning rubble as helicopters feebly toss water on it was such an amazing visual. I don't know how that is supposed to be read as anything but a joke, how are you finding a "hard drive" or whatever in that kind of wreckage?
Cutting a ship into pieces is the only way to gain access to it's computers with relatively little damage, it doesn't make sense to you because you're a gweilo. I mean, have you even heard of the fermi paradox?
Because if you read the books you'd know the books cause a massive amount of seethe. >Author is chinese >Major characters are chinese >He uses scientifical concepts that have been used elsewhere >Woman dooms earth
Tards on here can't have an intellectual discussion of the material and questions it raises.
If katana girl can can hack everything, why not hack important computer systems and frick up humanity. Drop planes out of the sky. Create a Chernobyl. Sink some aircraft carriers. Frick up supply chains to cause civil unrest.
Announcing yourself and doing jackshit is fricking stupid.
was a pretty enjoyable watch >auggie was way to attractive i want to frick her face >one epsiode they show there are riots and stuff and then its never mentioned again >was a bit weird how this particular friend group are connected to everything
it was stupid. but I don’t really blame the writers. You can’t make a show without personal drama. normies need personal drama. Otherwise they can’t relate to anything.
What’s with all the diversity hires? Am I really supposed to believe a black man and boss Latina are some sort of revolutionary geniuses? Why can’t they cast people who are believable? Even the two white guys are moronic. Just make them all Asian. This show sucks.
They were tiny spy devices and could influence single particles at a time. Thats why they were limited to fricking with your eyes and messing with particle physics alone. They didn't have the ability to hack computers and wrap around the whole planet. They didn't block the stars in the book. They blocked the microwave background, which they were able to do by unfolding because radio telescopes are only looking at tiny patches of the sky. Its like blocking someones binocular lenses as opposed to surrounding an entire planet.
>Wrap around the whole planet
Bro... > We have already written the software to allow a sophon to unfold itself into two dimensions. After the unfolding is complete, the huge plane can wrap itself around the Earth. This software can also adjust the membrane so that it’s transparent, but the degree of transparency can be tuned in the frequencies of the cosmic microwave background…. Of course, as sophons fold and unfold into different dimensions, they can display even more amazing ‘miracles.’ The software for accomplishing these is still being developed, but these ‘miracles’ will create a mood sufficient to divert human scientific thought onto the wrong path.

Not that anon, but there is difference between 'they can do these specific things complete with limitation that make sense and ground the whole thing' to 'they can make you see the world as we want you to see it, regardless that you're looking at a house in 3d space and moving your head, you wouldn't know the difference, because for plot reasons'. They even took the time to make the countdown sfx look like something scribbled (which would make sense and work to ground it in some rules) but them also made them project the jap waifu (which hasn't even been constructed yet) on a tv on a whim and highjack every display on Earth at the same time which showing a multitude of different messages (done by only the 2 sophons, if I'm not mistaken).
>They can't manipulate brains to cause hallucinations.
How are the scientists driven to suicide in the books?

Not really calrified but it's a combination of being shown illusions, their life's work being ruined and the implication that there are beings who can control physics and thus that shows how insignificant human beings are in the grand scheme of things.
My head cannon says they are trying to find a habitable planet that has intelligence so that they dont have to start over in that planet from scratch. An existing intelligent civilization smart enough for interstellar communication will make it easy to conform to their needs
Their planet is slowly being swallowed up by the combined gravity of the three suns and in a 1000 years their planet is destroyed. It's incredibly lucky that the closest star is our solar system, but they have been building more sophons to explore other systems only they keep losing them because they lose contact with them.

They can repeatedly fly through your retinas to draw basic figures, the countdown is in the book. But the stuff they show Wade in the show isn't.
The sophon being able to block all the starlight is moronic and invalidates the whole reason for invasion. If the trisolarins are that advanced, why not just use a sophon to regulate the amount of sunlight their planet gets?
My head cannon says they are trying to find a habitable planet that has intelligence so that they dont have to start over in that planet from scratch. An existing intelligent civilization smart enough for interstellar communication will make it easy to conform to their needs
A show where the world's leading physicists are all attractive and charismatic, and talk as though they are plucked straight out of Love Island. Yeah, think I'll give this a miss.
>Chuds: Ugh! I am so sick of these uggos? Where are the hot women on tv? The west has fallen! >Also chuds: Ugh! This woman is way too hot! They should have cast someone ugly!
Wtf do you guys even want?
It's not difficult: cast attractive people where the character should be attractive, cast unattractive people where the character should be unattractive.
I've also never been the chud to complain about the women being ugly in Hollywood, not that it matters.
>cast ugly Black folk and pajeets as highschool girls >cast Instagram thots as scientists
It’s not even about if she looks good or not. She looks like a trashy woman who is insecure about her looks so she does lots of surgery.
Aliens like this would either completely mog us or just leave us alone. If they exist they are too far away anyways. Anything in the middle is just dumb conjecture and not fun scifi
you dont even need planets to live in space. humans build their own habitats in the form of cities anyways, nature is just something we bring along for aesthetic reasons.
building o'neill cylinders, hundreds of miles wide, will be possible for any civilization that has cheap and easy spaceflight.
these things have more inside surface area that continents, you can settle tens of millions of people there without it being cramped and they will be fully self contained ecosystems.
a culture that can fold protons and move at interstellar speeds has a way easier time just migrating into space, instead of some convoluted bullshit plan to take over earth
>building o'neill cylinders, hundreds of miles wide, will be possible for any civilization that has cheap and easy spaceflight.
omuamua could have been a spaceship? and because of the "dark forest theory" they stayed queit to avoid us?
When humans need more living space, don't we just go yeet a forest to build some more houses? This is no different than that.
Wow you should write a book about your non story scenarios genius.
You guys are missing my point, the smartest human alive can't make that sort of conjecture accurately so it feels like a shonen where we just make power-levels up. It's a waste of time for midwits to feel better about themselves. I'll stick to my chad space operas where the aliens are just loose racial allegories for other types of humans I don't like.
it's actual hard scifi for 90% of it and the aliens are just a dead civilization, instead of the alien invasion plot that makes no sense that's been done to death.
3bp is just a thing that talks about scifi concepts, which is not the same at all. apparently all you need for first contact is some numbers and aliens will understand you perfectly, which is something that movies from decades ago did better. it's ok if you like it, but it makes as much sense as hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, which i think is why the showrunners opted for the more comedic tone.
you do you anon. exploration of scifi concepts and alien invasion will always be far more entertaining/intriguing than your pseudo intellectual preference that uses space as just a backdrop which is fricking boring. You might as well just read some scientific papers lmao.
There's exploration of sci-fi concepts in the expanse too, it just happens in the context of an actual overarching story and plot. It's a novel, not this thing where people talk about science concepts and sometimes about their lives.
>which i think is why the showrunners opted for the more comedic tone
now you're just talking out of your ass. They opted for this because they either think their audience is that dumb or they're that dumb themselves (I'd argue for a mix of both). The exapnse (from what I've gleamed from the show) is good in the aspect of thinking through actual physical laws and limitations much in the same way that 3bp (the books) is, only the latter is more autistic about it I'd wager. And both also mix some more fantastical themes in there.
Is there an explanation for immediately establishing communications with the aliens like they did in the show? because that's a pretty big thing to handwave away in a supposedly hard sci-fi show. Again, just mentioning newton and talking about the dark forest doesn't make it hard scifi. All this stuff with the sophons and the basic setup of the aliens is pretty fantastical. >hey opted for this because they either think their audience is that dumb or they're that dumb themselves
Regardless of the reason, i think it works because the book is supposed to be very dry, nihilistic and mostly devoid of any character development. It kinda works, except the characters are atrocious.
I'm pretty sure the original message the chinese were blasting was encoded in a specific way along with the rules to decode it (don't know if it was described in greater detail). The aliens were more advansed and upon recieving the message they sent the answer in the original language/encoding. What makes is more hard scifi (and let's not argue of the exact area this term covers) is the deatil in which the author goes into for specific concepts - a lot of time is given to humanity building increasingly larger colliders to try and continute quantum research, the constant advancement of monitoring equipment dedicated to observing space dust for the approaching trisolaris fleet and constant recalculations according to their acceleration, debates on the best technology to invest in for a defence space fleet, showing the iterative progress humanity makes a centure at a time complete with societal changes. He just takes a lot of care in crafting that and it's enjoyable for a specific kind of reader. And of course the show shows none of that.

Why do you think you can figure out an alien language with some numbers and a computer? 3 bp boils this down to: >oh, they're aliens so they don't understand lying
which is pretty fricking silly

it doesn't boil down to this, maybe try reading it. The lying thing is literally and interesting footnote in the first book, it's more like 'they have an entirely different biology than us, which logically means different social structures and ways of comminucations - here's how that could cause a break up with the followers'.
Back to decoding the message - the alien that recieves it is there literally for that singular purpose. To intercept any meaningful transmissions and try to interpret them and find the source. He's part of a more advanced civilization that have access to computational technology and also AI. He then recieves a message sent from a gullible species crafted specifically to be easily translatable (whatever that would mean for chinese 60s linguists). I believe in you, anon, you can connect the dots from here.

i don't think you're fully appreciating the difficulty of communications with something you have nothing in common with, simply saying it was 'one guy who used AI' is poor science fiction

I see you are committed to this, hopefully you're sincere. Would the book have been improved had the author researched the extent of linguistic knowledge that 60s China would've emplyed in such a message and what real life problems decoding that would cause for the aliens - yes. Did he do that - regrettably not. But he did do his research in other areas which make up for it. Specifically around this transmission there is a mock up of a internal official communist document illustrating how moronic trying to do science in that political atmosphere was. It's an unexpected little detail that does ground the story in a way you seem to value, so again I propose that you read the book.

In the book he was basically kept hydrated during a chaotic era to keep an eye on their radio telescope monitoring - essentially the dipshit overnight guy at any large financial services company who is there alone simply because they need someone. Nowhere near as ridiculous as classified Ukraine war reports being posted on a Discord server to win an argument by some dipshit 21 year old airman IT guy who asked them to tell anyone.

The episode where the sophon reveal and eye in the sky thing happened, I thought it was a really well executed scifi moment that was jarring and made me want more. Like in the face of such an overwhelming, all encompassing power, what do you even do? Check mate, right? But then the show kind of takes an excitement nose dive after that peak moment in order to do some character building. And then the plausibility takes a nose dive as well because there's so many plot holes around the sophons, when they can manipulate things, when they can't.
I'll watch the next season, but I can already see them fumbling it all. At least they didn't just mystery box it for 5 seasons, but still. The pacing was off and it seems a little disjointed.
Read the book homosexuals it's infinitely better, but none of you people read so it's a moot point. >No racialized goyflix nonsense, all Chinese cast >Nuanced ayylmao lore and infinitely more social intricacies >Women are depicted as irrational morons >Section describing how big breasted rural Chinese girls are (Author def let it slip there) >Best character is a deranged Chinese roid cop who shocked NATOchuds with his brutally efficient and violent plan that worked.
the books are soulless garbage though. i read a hundred pages or so of the first book a few years back after it won all kinds of awards and really couldn't believe it. it seems like it was paid for or the state of sci fi is just that bad.
i'm not going to swallow shit just because, anon. as i said earlier, it's like asimov was a kid writing this stuff. everything is wooden and it's non stop exposition dumps of characters showing up and saying, "here's my story". i don't care if the concepts eventually get good(spoiler, they don't as i've talked to people who finished the books).
>Women are depicted as irrational morons
I see this point made a lot, but I think the author mostly meant it as 'women are more emphatic and less coldly rational' so that's why Cheng Xin keeps making those choices in the third book. It's mostly a philosophical position against the very principles of the Dark Forest state. The author merely opts to show us the logical followup of having that position in the real world (and arguably even shows us a positive side of this at the very end of the novel).
No fricking way that shoot out scene with the nooks from the chink version was in the book. Bookgays?
It wasn't a shootout exactly. There was a second more serious meeting of the ETO where they were discussing how the organization is getting fractionalized due to ideology split. Main character, Wang was there and saw that Ye was their spiritual leader and she lore dumped the audience in some eastern-exposition style (some morons here can't fathom different prose for story telling based on cultural context). Wang is secretly working with the authorities and they do raid the large meeting in an abandoned factory. >kino part

the 3-body problem has basically 0 impact on the story itself. it could've been replaced with "our planet is out of resources" and the story wouldn't have been affected at all
Brainlet take, as a physicist it was a fun read because all of the concepts, FORTRAN use, astrophysical jargon, Newton Leibniz duel etc. is correct/fun and when its not there is a footnote depicting the difference. Some people are so behind in a race that they think they are ahead kek.
yeah and it's garbage it constantly references shit from the 1960s that you can't even torrent as a PDF to read with huge proof gaps. Not really the point but I love your perception anon.
discussion of anything on 4chins is a zero sum game. If the book isn't "perfect" than any of the ideas contained within are deemed worthless. The criteria for perfect in this case is also vague and random, or just decided by old gays opinions which are now set in stone
>der boomer oldgays/moron cabal interfering with objective reviews through high dimensional israelitery spreading inconsistent and random benchmarks for anons
Damn maybe the author was onto something here folks.
ok anon I'll tell you what the book has. >they have eyes (confirmed through abstraction when they failed second unfolding of the proton) >they frick by merging with femoids and splitting into 3-5 ayylmaolets (incels and volcels incinerated in capital / pseudo eugenic society as offspring retain memories) >they have shimmery or reflective bodies as they didn't use flags but light during the live-motherboard era >when dehydrated they are very fiberous
>so how are they gonna conquer earth when we can just step on them like ants?
Kill us from the orbit and then make a landfall to siphon a swimming pool's worth of water into their space caravan and frick off.
The showrunners have infinite artistic license to make the ayylmaos look like however they want. They never meet humans eye-to-eye in a time period of over 400 years and all that is said about their biology is a few throwaway lines about how 2 of them merge and split into 5 "children" to reproduce.
Naturally they will take that opportunity to do something creative and throw it away by not showing the aliens at all.
just started watching this and so far its intreguinng.
but why didn't you gays tell me it was mostly about a bunch of dorks playing some cheesy-ass looking vr game?
i tried giving the chinese version a whirl
it was cheap looking and most of the cast couldn't act for shit
also thought the reaction of the different goverments were highly unrealistic
now why the frick would i give the netflix adaptation even a sliver of a chance
doesn't compute
Every military/intelligence service in the world being completely ignorant and sitting around waiting for some random chinese engineer to do all investigative work against a global threat is the dumbest addition of the Tencent show.
In the book Wang is treated more like an informant than a lead investigator. The world governments already know about the ETO being in contact with aliens, they are just looking for a bit more information before pouncing.
the wokey shit is quite noticable but its only for 1 or 2 eps i remember, and obviously scenes that were added in later cause it completely stops. some studio boss was clearly happy just ruining 2 eps
How did the aliens know chinese the first time they ever received a message from another world? How did the aliens send the VR headsets to earth if it takes them hundreds of years to send anything thats bigger than an atom? If the aliens can survive life on the worst planet ever, shouldn't every planet with a normal star system be more than suitable for them?
> How did the aliens know chinese
Chinese is an alien language. > How did the aliens send the VR headsets
Sophon created it > shouldn't every planet with a normal star system be more than suitable for them?
Two rooms behind closed doors, each has a golden bar you want. You know that there are tarantulas in the left room. The right room might be empty but it also might contain anything. Which one do you choose?
>Two rooms behind closed doors, each has a golden bar you want. You know that there are tarantulas in the left room. The right room might be empty but it also might contain anything. Which one do you choose?
You typed all this shit to say that it's really hard for these advanced aliens to use some telescopes to check out some planets, is this the audience for this thing?
It's easier than folding protons into superintelligences, yes.
>Yeah, sending in the marines. I'm sure they could handle a few children.
>Brilliant, by the time the people realize they are attacked they will press the big red button to destroy all the harddrives and you lose all the data
The guy literally picked it up and walked away with it. Alarms were blaring throughout the ship as it were being torn apart. No this would not be silent, there's no fricking way you can silently slice an entire ship into multiple layers lengthwise without anyone at the end suspecting of anything, they're not that fricking fast.
That's not the hard drives they want, that was just a visual representation for dumdums like you to understand what is happening. The real harddrives were those big black boxes he got the red disc from. That's what they are after.

You mean the server racks? the ones that got torn apart?
It is easy to point telescope, but spotting a habitable planet in reachable vicinity is just about luck. Actually, they did just that and found Earth.
they're literally our next door neighbor. we've already catalogued thousands of exoplanets and our space telescopes are barely 30 years old and we're not even really trying.
if your civilization is literally dying in cyclical events, they would throw massive amounts of resources at the problem of resettlement and wouldve found earth ages ago and come here before we even developed language
And the Sun is dimm from Trisolaris system, I don't think they were aware of it.

But you're telling us it's the literal closest star to their system, that is not hard at all, it's the first thing anyone would think of doing.
Yes, and they will reattach them.

thats your personal headcanon to make this stupid premise work. the fact remains that a civilization that can fold protons and bend the laws of physics to make magic happen exists right next door and they have an imminent catastrophe of their planet getting scorched every few millenia but they did exactly nothing to solve their problem so far, despite earth being the solution to literally all of their problems and has always been right there, yet they just never bothered to look until right now? thats some convoluted anime shit writing

Why do you think she had to send the message twice in order for trisolarians pinpoint her location?
they're literally our next door neighbor. we've already catalogued thousands of exoplanets and our space telescopes are barely 30 years old and we're not even really trying.
if your civilization is literally dying in cyclical events, they would throw massive amounts of resources at the problem of resettlement and wouldve found earth ages ago and come here before we even developed language
No you wouldn't because they know that any species that detect them spying on them will immediately destroy them. That's the dark forrest theory, the best course of action is hiding on your planet and not showing anything. The sophons are the only "safe" exploration tool in their opinions and thats what they use to search for other planets. But they are a recent invention.
The books explain all of this.
In the books they use a mathmatical language as a go-between for chinese and the alien language that gets decoded and encoded.
The VR headsets are made by the pro alien people using existing human materials with the help of sophons.
The aliens dont live on the worst planet ever. Their planet goes through stable and chaotic periods that could last thousands/millions of years due to their three star system. Outside the chaotic periods the planet is livable. They choose earth specifically because they get the transmission from there and because it is quite close to them and it is viable to get there with their current tech.
>The VR headsets are made by the pro alien people using existing human materials with the help of sophons.
Why are you trying to explain stuff from the books when you clearly haven't read them?
my life is not easy, but I'm surrounded by good people, they are kind, caring, virtuous.
I watch this show to enjoy some scifi, in the first episode I'm met with two arrogant women mistreating a pleasant guy who approached them in a bar. Somehow the authors imply we should root for these arrogant women.
I don't want toxic people in my life nor in media I entertain myself with.
Writers of these show never met good people, they are bad people themselves, and I don't want anything to do with them.
>rehydrate the masses >next chaotic period comes too soon >get boiled alive
Why would anyone ever advise the king to rehydrate the masses? This is emblematic of the problems holding the trisolarans back.
Considering they are show only characters, nobody really knows. In the books the indian dude was a highly capable soldier with a very loyalist outlook (which they needed in a war with far more advanced aliens) so they assume he will fight till the end, surprise surprise, he and his father have already determined that the war is unwinnable. And they are right.
>thinking you can out smart a super intelligence
It's like a bunch of lab rats trying to get the better of the scientists. Everyone is moronic for even trying.
its stated that humans will catch up technologically to the aliens within the 400 years it will take for them to get to earth because earth is a stable system, allowing for quicker technological progression. Its why the aliens are fricking with physics experiments and trying to recruit all the top scientists to their side with the VR headsets.
The main problem for me is that the entire 'dark forest' premise is just ridiculously flawed and undermines the entire story. There's like 100 billion stars in the Milky Way alone. If habitable planets are so rare, how the frick do both Sol and Alpha Centauri (which are right next to each other on a stellar scale) have habitable planets let alone both managing to evolve intelligent life? That's also using the ridiculous assumption that terraforming is impossible and there's absolutely no way to use the literal trillions of other planets in the galaxy. No, it's either you're living on a 100% habitable planet or you're extinct, no in betweens.
The whole 'anonymity is king, the most logical policy for any spacefaring species is to destroy all other civilizations as they'll eventually become competition' is also moronic. Sending any sort of weapon out of your home system is obviously going to break that fricking anonymity. If I keep shooting everyone I see in the park at night, I'll just end up broadcasting my position and put a huge target on my back. Especially as I have absolutely no way of knowing how many other dudes are out there watching in the darkness.
Completely eradicating another species takes resources due to the distances involved, even if they're much less technologically advanced than you. It's never as simple as pressing a button. Any weapon capable of doing this is also almost certainly going to damage the very planet/resources you are killing them for. Victims left alive have the potential to not only completely ruin their planet to spite you, but to also trace back whatever weapon you used.
All this is just from what I can remember off the top of my head when I first read the books, there's definitely more which I've forgotten. Overall the TBP just feels like babby's first scifi fanfiction, with super epic philosophical questions that break down after a moment's thought and space battles/technology which are kinda silly.
I can write out a long reply disputing all your points but let's jsut say that the book has already done this. So if you really put in energy to think about this i would advise to read the books, you might even enjoy yourself.
I have read them. Please go ahead, I'd like to see how you think the books explain these.
>All this is just from what I can remember off the top of my head when I first read the books, there's definitely more which I've forgotten. Stop lying homie, you have never read the books. Maybe the first one, but they didn't even speak about the dark forrest theory in that one.
Meh, I don't really care if you believe me or not.
Yeah you're lying, because they have stated directly in the books you can't find other aliens by the projectiles they launched at the suns. Plus, these projectiles are basically small rocks they shoot with the speed of light and that destroys the sun so it's really low cost. They go over this in the book again and again, and you even see a first person pov of an alien species that do this with the commentary how cheap it is to exterminate a competing species, and how they have never found another species by tracking the projectiles shot, so you're full of shit or just brain damaged.

> If I keep shooting everyone I see in the park at night, I'll just end up broadcasting my position and put a huge target on my back.
Yes, except you are shooting dynamite from crossbow.
How does that help? Anybody with sufficient understanding of physics can calculate trajectories to find the source of a projectile.
Yeah you're lying, because they have stated directly in the books you can't find other aliens by the projectiles they launched at the suns. Plus, these projectiles are basically small rocks they shoot with the speed of light and that destroys the sun so it's really low cost. Except the aliens don't know who's watching. Who's to say there's nobody out there with the capability of tracking the supposedly untraceable projectiles when everyone is silent? They don't know what they don't know, yet they're willing to risk everything by breaking their anonymity when there could be civilizations out there with a tech advantage just as large as what they have over humanity.
To humans, sure there might not be any way to track what happened. But the aliens don't know if there's someone else out there who can.
Because this particular alien species is basically immortal, have existed for millions of years, have destroyed million of other species, have found billions of other destroyed civilizations and have never been able to track anyone. Nobody is dumb enough to shoot an object from their home planet, they use ships and by the time you have verified the coordinates of where the ship was when they shot the object it could have been millions of years later and the ship could be anywhere...
Stop lying and actually go read the books, because you seem to have "forgotten" a lot of stuff...
Again, it's not about the direct technologies available but rather the risk and what they don't know. Shooting from ships etc might not matter to some semi-omniscient Type 4 civilization with the tech to track the weapons. They know there are species out there with much lesser tech than them, who's to say there's not other's with substantially better tech? They don't know what they don't know.
the dark forest is a moronic concept
the idea that hundreds of civilizations would pop up all at the same timeframe in the same galaxy that some cold-war situation could emerge between all of them with everybody just spying and hiding is completely ridiculous.
even a 200k year headstart, which is tiny in evolutionary timescales, would give the first such a massive advantage that they take the entire galaxy by default.
there wont be 500 alien races locked in an arms race, there will be one colonizing everything while others still hunt with spears

and what did they do with their billion year advantage? in a realistic scenario, they wouldve spread out over every galaxy within a 100 million lightyears, taken bilions of planets for themselves and snuffed out the indigenous life when it was still crawling from the ocean.
there cant be a threatening rival emerging when the power gap is that huge, they would hog all resources. for the same reason that chimps wont suddenly start developing nuclear weapons while we're not looking.

again, the question is: why NOW? why not 10 million years ago. civilizations wont all arise at the same time. earth had nothing but algae for 2 billion years, its not impossible that the complexity of life on earth could've kickstarted sooner.
any other planet with even a tiny headstart would've already colonized the entire galaxy.
if there was another spacefaring civilization in this galaxy, we wouldnt exist. they wouldve taken the earth a very long time ago.

the assumption that any civilization would want to endlessly replicate itself is just that, an assumption. what would be the point? it's not really intelligent behavior.

life tends to spread. if spaceflight becomes cheap and easy, its inevitable that we will colonize the stars.
due to light-lag, its impossible to govern the whole thing anyways, so even if the official order was to stop claiming new planets, pockets of pioneers would always spread out on their own agency.

Life naturally replicates and spreads everywhere after filling up its home
So any lifeform would do that, your probability of survival increases the more of you there are
reproduction is how primitive life survives and enhances itself, advanced life does that by building upon knowledge.
there's no reason to assume aliens would be endlessly multiplying their numbers like bacteria do, unless they're rogue machines.

radiowaves dont matter at all. just building thousands of space telescopes that are several miles in diameter is childsplay for aliens that can fold protons. you just have to look at other planets, its all right there to see. the dark forest isnt dark at all. you cannot hide your own planet and the fact that it bears life, the light is already travelling

What brainlets fail to realize that Earth has been broadcasting itself as life bearing planet for 2.5 billion years already. Any alien species with the capability to build space born telescopes within like 2 billion lightyears has had the opportunity to spot all the oxygen/methane/water vapor in Earth's atmosphere. It's ridiculous to think that we became a target only once we developed radio technology. If there is a galaxy conquesting civilization out there in the Milkyway, they would have been here before the dinosaurs were born.

They wouldn't, because building space telescopes might result into more advanced species finding proof of you looking around and then kill you before you have found them. So the inferior species that do realize the nature of the universe will hide away and hope nobody notices them.

Maybe the silent ones are killed off aswell, but the noisy ones are killed for sure. Predator silently taking out other silent predator is something we would not be able to observe. Therefore, we see no ayyliens. Which is how the dark forest adresses the fermi paradox. The dark forest doesn't give you a "win it all strategy".
Anonymous
That's a very good point as well. The logical outcome of the 'dark forest' is either there should be a cold war scenario with hundreds of different civilizations hiding from each other too afraid to do a thing, or one supermassive ancient civilization that has consistently destroyed all others and will continue to rule forever.
> But the aliens don't know if there's someone else out there who can.
Yeah, there might be. But it is a large park and the "someone" should consider the very same danger.
In the end what practically happens: When the noisy lifeform is shot down, the silent lifeforms don't track who did it but just post "nice" into galactic anonymous board.
But why wouldn't the silent ones track and then kill the noisy one? That's the entire premise of the dark forest isn't it?

Because then the silent one wants to stay silent. It is the noisy ones who are actually dangerous if left to grow.

Stop lying and actually go read the books, because you seem to have "forgotten" a lot of stuff...
It's science fiction. The author proposes plausible fictional explanations for all these "issues" that are mostly internally consistent in his series. Nobody is treating it as fact, and if you can tolerate a lot of exposition and autistic lore dumping in the last book it makes plenty of sense.
Plan to save humanity is sending barren woman to pick up 200 year old man and escape on the only ship capable.
He turns her down, so two women go off into space.
This is really the worst written garbage I've read and I'm familiar with Royal Road.
After all the shilling I just watched the first episode. It was ok, more positive than negative honestly, sure it was the same old female scentists and awkward men, but the acting was good and it felt competently made.
Wouldn't a super intelligence shed their biological bodies for cybernetic avatars anyways? That way they could live anywhere and forever. At the very least put your biological body in an underground pod in some kind of stasis and use an avatar body to live out your life. That way if you get hit by a train or something you could just get a replacement. Or put your body in stasis and live life in a virtual simulation while AI and robots take care of everything. All of this especially if you live on a shit planet. Hell, you could just do it on a space station.
There's like a thousand things you can do other than frick over some other alien race and steal their planet.
They could put their entire civilization into one of those multi-dimensional computers, yes. The aliens have too advanced for the story to make any sense.
It would make more sense to build a space station around a red dwarf and live in a computer than finding a planet that will be gone in a few billion years anyways. A red dwarf can last for trillions of years and provide enough energy to fuel your space station.
The dark first theory is interesting when you realize that every alien race is going to migrate to the last remaining red dwarf stars anyways since they will be the last remaining stars before the heat death of the universe. Just a bunch of super advanced aliens chilling around the same star waiting to die.
They could put their entire civilization into one of those multi-dimensional computers, yes. The aliens have too advanced for the story to make any sense.
the genre is hard sci fi anons.
putting your consciousness into a robot is magic, you cannot and will not convince me otherwise.
unfolding a proton is easily achievable technologically
interstellar travel at 0.1 speed of light is also easy. But unraveling the secrets of how consciousness works might be the hardest problem an intelligent species will ever try to solve.
You could just put your brain in a pod in a hardened bunker and have it control a robot avatar else where. You could do this for your entire civilization in a really small hidden place. Or just hook the brains into a shared simulation. That way you don't even need a planet and very little resources.
We aren't too far away from the singularity ourselves. Once we create a self learning, self improving intelligence anything is possible. And that's just 50 years from now. Imagine how far an alien civilization will have come if they were 100,000 years ahead of us.
Aliens are the sci-fi equivalent of dragons and elves
Hard sci fi would be only humans exist, no aliens (maybe you find small pools of algae and bacteria on other planets)
Hard sci fi would not have FTL travel, instead travel between stars would be very slow, at most it be more like the Silk Road in medieval times, no galactic empires because of the large distance, travel time would be 50-70% light speed (for fuel efficiency) (like James Cameron’s avatar) for a very advanced galactic civilization, and like 10% (via solar sails) for a civilization that has colonized their home system
If you don't allow some form of warp travel your sci-fi setting is gay.
We can barely handle our current bureaucracy, there is not a not a chance in hell we're managing an interstellar empire if travel takes that long.
Interstellar empires wouldn’t exist, every star system would be like it’s own city state, only doing trade with it’s nearest neighbors (everyone in a 10 lightyear radius) via large interstellar freighters
these freighters would just travel back and forth between two systems picking up and delivering goods, at minimum it would take 50 years to travel between two systems (at 20% light speed)
These ships would be the size of a large island, maybe the size of Long Island, one trading run would take your entire lifetime.
Maybe a small crew of a few thousand people would live on these ships to manage it + their families who would be born and die on these ships, knowledge being passed down via generations who would take care of and repair the ships
They’d be their own caste of society. They’d dock load/unload and refuel when they arrive at their destination, then turn around and head to the next star system
i already have own severely autistic image of space age civilization in mind
but some of this is pretty interesting
currently pondering about all the space debris that would hit the ship at 20% the speed of light plus the current velocity of that object for 50 years
If you had read the books you wouldn’t think this. The show is extremely fast paced. You have the attention span of a toddler and anything that doesn’t have bright lights and loud sounds loses you after 2 minutes

How is this gonna stop the aliens though?
i can ignore plot holes like why they cant just zap alien WMDs if they can zap their VR headsets, or how they don't do any show of power that would be realistically required. just flickering lights and making people schizo is just too vague to let the people know if they are under legitimate threat.... but the shit that breaks the show for me is all the nonsensical. by making a threat and antagonizing humanity, while claiming you are the supposedly superior race yet require intricate measures to prevent you from being technologically eclipsed by the time your invasion fleet reaches them is paradoxical. 400 is also too long to assume no countermeasures for the interference will be devised. maybe if the author picked something reasonable like 80 years, then you'd have the added fire lit under your ass that your children will be the ones bearing the brunt of your potential frick up, so i am suspending my disbelief and just taking it as headcanon humanity can't for bullshit science magic reasons counter the alien super computer so that they can focus on the wallfacer side plot.
also if they put the wallfacers in a dark and silent room and just communicate via touch signals, like morse code, that will also completely negate it all. but all the same they can just use their magic science shit to kill the wallfacers. the world building just cant survive the refridgerator logic rule

Why? Because they act to be relatable, instead of relying on the plot to evoke relatability to the audience.
> Just build 100–400 billion[1] telescopes and track every star in the galaxy.
Ok, you did it while being well hidden while knowing many others did the same thing aswell. Now what? Shoot every emerging habitable planet? Or wait for signs of intelligence? Or leave the dirty job to others? What is your gameplan?
Anon, that's why this dark forest crap is stupid. Civilizations would have to devote a ridiculous amount of resources to detection, staying hidden and destroying all habitable planets in case life ever evolves there and becomes a competitor.
That's the whole problem. Either you devote your entire species to this stupid goal of killing every other living thing in the galaxy on the off chance they evolve into a competitor or you don't and risk the survival of your species down to a roll of the dice.
Well yes that's the game theory problem as it is hinted when the chinese grandma held Fermi paradox and Game theory books in the hand.
building 10k deep space telescopes at favourable lagrange points in your own solar system would only cost a fraction of your available resources, you would do it anyway, even if you are friendly and just scouting for locations to send your colonists to.
also, you dont need to keep track of every single planet in real time. as soon as you got the likelihood of life bearing of a planet, you can mark them and take another look in a few thousand years, what you want is a snapshot of as many planets as possible to even gauge the likelihood of having neighbors in the first place.
also, most stars and their planets fall out of the habitable category anyways, you wont find a civilization around a supernova or a red dwarf.
so out of 400 billion suns, there are maybe 10 billion you would need to check regularlyxxjg
it's ok I already assume it is done. I am just asking what you do next.
Your race just got wiped out by someone even more advanced because they noticed you launching your superweapon. Next.
And your race is wiped out by even even more advanced race. Next.
you take stock of every habitable planet thats out there and send your people there, because the fact that nobody has destroyed you yet is proof enough that there is no predator out there (earth and the fact that its habitable has always been visible because everyone else would have those space telescopes too)

Do you see where this is going? If you even launch a planet killer of any kind, you will be noticed by someone else. The only winning move IF the universe is a dark forest is to never ever ever launch any weapons ever.
Yes I see where it is going: the most advanced race is left. > he only winning move IF the universe is a dark forest is to never ever ever launch any weapons ever.

So why didn't the aliens destroy Earth any time in the past 2.5 billion years when it was clearly visible from the atmospheric absorption spectrum that it is a life bearing planet?

again, there is no such thing as silence in astronomy. you cannot hide your own planet in the past, the light information of your planets past is already travelling and can be picked up by anyone who is looking. radiowaves dont matter, technology doesnt matter. earth has been a cradle of complex life for hundreds of millions of years and has broadcast this information for all this time. if there was a hostile competitor nearby, they wouldnt have allowed us to evolve in the first place
> you cannot hide your own planet in the past, the light information of your planets past is already travelling
just go live somewhere else then
> if there was a hostile competitor nearby, they wouldnt have allowed us to evolve in the first place
Evolution into spacefaring race is not a certainty, and by your own argument, you want to intervene only when it is necessary.

So you >know a planet is life bearing >know that everyone else must also be trying to hide showing signs of intelligent life
and you still don't take the shot? Congratulations, you hesitated giving the enemy time to spot you and launch their RKV towards you.

Right now, would you take a risky shot at planet Earth or wait couple decades and see whether those apes will wipe themselves out?

I wouldn't take the shot at all, because firing at anything gives away your position to everyone else.
Also, the Dark Forest hypothesis is a moronic concept and it isn't real.

they would intervene in the form of just colonizing that habitable planet. even if they're not actively genocidal, taking a planet where only dinosaurs exist and making it your own automatically kills all potential for another civilization to evolve on that planet.
the timescales between two spacefaring civilizations are so enormous that its practically impossible for two of them being on the same evolutionary ladder at the same time. the first would just take every planet in the galaxy without competition.
even if they have their own fear of dark forest logic, they can also use logic to safely assume that they're alone at their specific timeslot in the galaxy because of the fact that they exist and nobody has taken -their planet.
spreading out to the stars is always the winning move if you have the means to do so

Colonization option is even worse than taking the planet down. Because with larger amount of planets which, as you said, can't hide, you become larger target. The expansive races are culled. Next.

If that's your gameplan, then you are basically leaving the galaxy to expansive races. These will exponentially grow until they overrun you. Next.
I am yet to see any strategy that would falsify Dark Forest.

how in the frick is a race capable of advancing to that point if their world gets destroyed once every couple of years ? even if we take into account the age of their civilization, it still doesn't add up
Keep in mind the game i mostly a highlight reel of the most cataclysmic chaotic periods. But most were probably more similar to the very first one we see, which can be survived by aimply hiding behind a rock, or dehydrating. Their early civilizations all center around a megastructure in which the elite live, insulated from the milder chaotic periods, while the masses survive by dehydrating. They could thrive like this for thousands of years inbetween the apocalypses.
because most of Cinemaphile thinks they're smart when they're actually moronic so they get filtered by shit they missed / didnt understand and make up reasons why people are being "moronic" even though they actually have no concept of what is happening
Oh yeah?
*dunks your head back in the toilet*
This, though the show does get some things wrong that the book doesn't.
How do the aliens have a good enough understanding of human neurology and behavior to create the vr game (something they didn't do in the book), yet not realize that humans can lie?
why do aliens tell humans that they will frick them over later instead of quietly fricking them over right now?
They don't lie, their way or communication goes straight out from thought.
I think that's a bad argument.
They've been fricking up science for some time and they didn't tell the whole world about it.
But the plot needed to be advanced so we get this moronic "you are bugs" scene.
But they did tell the people in the cult. Are you, by any chance, stupid?
I believe the VR game recruitment tool is co-developed by humans who are on the ayy's side, made by people who over the course of years have been recruited by Ye Wenjie and/or Mike Evans
Tell me you havent read the ooks without telling me
>How do the aliens have a good enough understanding of human neurology and behavior to create the vr game (something they didn't do in the book),
Uhh, they did do this in the book dude.
He wasn't great to watch but in his defense he got across how cancer people are awful to be around irl and cause a reluctant disgust and not wanting to be around them or think of them
it's pure sci-fi kino
blows shit like dune out of the water
>muh jihad
>muh lisan al gaib
frick that, how about human computer and ai protons instead
>it's pure sci-fi kino
maybe the books. Not this shit
the books are flat and soulless and also have huge plot holes in them with regards to the aliens. i don't know if it's a translation thing but it's like asimov wrote this as an elementary school kid. it's just exposition dumps and every char that shows up is like, "ok here's my story"
this is my problem with the books. some neat ideas, but the writing is pretty terrible. as you said i can't tell if it's a cultural/translation thing or what. maybe the bugs really are just pure soulless husks that can't really express emotion whatsoever.
I think it's pretty well known asians cannot write books, good ones at least
gimi
kino of the year
Cinemaphile doesn't even watch tv
Shills don’t either
so why did they spend 1 trillion dollars to launch a cancer brain into the void?
Wade feels that the best chance to get intel would be a human even if the odds are against this. Moreover this could push science advancement on earth a bit like trying to reach 0.01% speed of light. So its worth a shot just for that
What happens to him in the book? Do the aliens ever pick him up?
No way am I touching Netflix shit with a ten foot pole, but it's funny hearing secondhand how they fricked it up. Introducing characters from book 2 and 3 early? Not a bad idea, until... Somehow, Sophon-bot got built pre-deterrance, and can freely interfere with humanity on the macro scale? What are they even doing?
It was specifically less expensive than other projects considered at the time because they wanted to dispose world's nuke arsenal anyway, unless that was comppetely cut out lol
Because Cinemaphile got filtered
You're trying to apply human reasoning to aliens.
moronic comment please kys
And this was when humans were still significantly less advanced than the Trisolarans.
>but they can just terraform another planet
lol anon
The trisolarians also make other plans, earth is just the most appealing. And considering they have crippled our technological advancement there is no real resistance. After their planet get destroyed there are plenty of trisolarians still living in these habitats etc. and they even colonize new planets and there is proof that they joined the super future space civilization.
>It's just that earth happens to be the closest star to them
How do you they not know the planets of the closest star to them? That makes even less sense.
>Got any other ideas genius?
Yeah, sending in the marines. I'm sure they could handle a few children.
>Yeah, sending in the marines. I'm sure they could handle a few children.
Or use a chemical agent to gas the inhabitants?
>they need to get the frick out of dodge.
Shouldn't be a problem for a civilization that can fold protons into supercomputers and build interstellar fleets
>Earth's the only planet they know of that's habitable.
It will be here long after we're gone
>In reality, the only reason aliens would bother physically invading Earth is because they want our real-estate.
Real-state is infinite for an actual space-fairing civilization, the value of the earth or any planet like it would come from studying it's biosphere. Aliens would either wipe us out with some superweapon or study us, there's not much of a point to anything else.
>n reality, the only reason aliens would bother physically invading Earth is because they want our real-estate. Resources are abundant in the galaxy, any space-faring civilization could wipe out another without sending a single ship, etc.
Personally, I think one motivation would be that if a civilisation banned AI (so not the Trisolarians) they may which to acquire sentient slaves.
> i have no idea how slicing a ship into many pieces is supposed to preserve the computers inside, or how it's any better than blowing it up.
The ship easily could have been damaged more or the device parts could have just flown out into deep waters
does anything not cause butthurt on this moronic ass website anymore?
Because if you read the books you'd know the books cause a massive amount of seethe.

Tards on here can't have an intellectual discussion of the material and questions it raises.
It doesn't. It's being shilled by netflix.
When i was watching it, the only thing i could think is that the show is the 2024 equivalent of a Roland Emmerich movie
name one show that doesn't cause so much butthurt on Cinemaphile
If katana girl can can hack everything, why not hack important computer systems and frick up humanity. Drop planes out of the sky. Create a Chernobyl. Sink some aircraft carriers. Frick up supply chains to cause civil unrest.
Announcing yourself and doing jackshit is fricking stupid.
because then show over
Because they dont want to arrive to an inhospitable world?
but they live in an inhospitable world, and the collapse of human civilization wouldn't necessarily destroy the earth, quite the contrary.
which is why they are changing planets? and no forcing the whole world into a giant chernobyl isnt the contrary
was a pretty enjoyable watch
>auggie was way to attractive i want to frick her face
>one epsiode they show there are riots and stuff and then its never mentioned again

it was stupid. but I don’t really blame the writers. You can’t make a show without personal drama. normies need personal drama. Otherwise they can’t relate to anything.
whats is about?
>netflix original
nevermind
What’s with all the diversity hires? Am I really supposed to believe a black man and boss Latina are some sort of revolutionary geniuses? Why can’t they cast people who are believable? Even the two white guys are moronic. Just make them all Asian. This show sucks.

Literally in the first episode of the show, most people on this board can't look past writing like that.
Yeah, I should’ve turned it off after that.
i was confused by that one even though it's such a small thing
what the frick was that line?
It was so random and jarring, it literally made no sense. Who talks like that at a funeral?
Even the Chinese girl was confused, like…okay? God I fricking hate these writers.
D&D thought they were smarter than the original writer. They aren't.
Elaborate.
They made the sophons way more capable than they were in the book, which creates a ton of "why not ride the eagles" moments
> sophons
what were they like in the book?
They even took the time to make the countdown sfx look like something scribbled (which would make sense and work to ground it in some rules) but them also made them project the jap waifu (which hasn't even been constructed yet) on a tv on a whim and highjack every display on Earth at the same time which showing a multitude of different messages (done by only the 2 sophons, if I'm not mistaken).
>way more capable
name two ways
They can't disable/control electronics.
They can't manipulate brains to cause hallucinations.
If the trisolarins are that advanced, why not just use a sophon to regulate the amount of sunlight their planet gets?
sunlight isn't the problem
better yet why not just frick off to another planet outside their 3 star system
Or why do they even need a planet at all? They have insane ship tech and materials tech. Why no just become a shipborne species?
> Why no just become a shipborne species?
in space no one can hear you b***hing about lying
My head cannon says they are trying to find a habitable planet that has intelligence so that they dont have to start over in that planet from scratch. An existing intelligent civilization smart enough for interstellar communication will make it easy to conform to their needs
Unpredictable gravity from the 3 suns is the problem which the sophons cannot resolve
There are attractive scientists.
Ah yes, because her and Eiza Gonzales are of similar calibre.
She wrote a line of code and men did the rest.
And we never see any of the women in the show other than Ye do real science.
she probably doesn't act like some dumb thot
Realism, like the zone of interest.
>cast ugly Black folk and pajeets as highschool girls
>cast Instagram thots as scientists
It’s not even about if she looks good or not. She looks like a trashy woman who is insecure about her looks so she does lots of surgery.
Because there are women and black people in it. And that's woke. And woke is bad because... it just is
Aliens like this would either completely mog us or just leave us alone. If they exist they are too far away anyways. Anything in the middle is just dumb conjecture and not fun scifi
>bro I know what aliens would do
aliens would probably follow basic logic instead of some convoluted plan with cults and shit, yeah
except the forest in this case is incomprehensibility big and the people cutting it down can fold space
>Incomprehensably big
The livable space in space in a very small fraction. We are the nearest habitable planet to the trisolarans.
>The livable space in space in a very small fraction
small fraction of 100 billion
>We are the nearest habitable planet to the trisolarans.
wouldn't matter with their technology, their planet sounds less habitable than mars already.
you dont even need planets to live in space. humans build their own habitats in the form of cities anyways, nature is just something we bring along for aesthetic reasons.
building o'neill cylinders, hundreds of miles wide, will be possible for any civilization that has cheap and easy spaceflight.
these things have more inside surface area that continents, you can settle tens of millions of people there without it being cramped and they will be fully self contained ecosystems.
a culture that can fold protons and move at interstellar speeds has a way easier time just migrating into space, instead of some convoluted bullshit plan to take over earth
>building o'neill cylinders, hundreds of miles wide, will be possible for any civilization that has cheap and easy spaceflight.
omuamua could have been a spaceship? and because of the "dark forest theory" they stayed queit to avoid us?
Probably did not have enough resources to do that
You guys are missing my point, the smartest human alive can't make that sort of conjecture accurately so it feels like a shonen where we just make power-levels up. It's a waste of time for midwits to feel better about themselves. I'll stick to my chad space operas where the aliens are just loose racial allegories for other types of humans I don't like.
you do you anon. exploration of scifi concepts and alien invasion will always be far more entertaining/intriguing than your pseudo intellectual preference that uses space as just a backdrop which is fricking boring. You might as well just read some scientific papers lmao.
There's exploration of sci-fi concepts in the expanse too, it just happens in the context of an actual overarching story and plot. It's a novel, not this thing where people talk about science concepts and sometimes about their lives.
And of course the show shows none of that.
>encoded in a specific way along with the rules to decode it
Yeah, that doesn't mean much. It's also one singular alien that does it in secrecy, which makes it all the more ridiculous.
I'm pretty sure that singular alien had access to a computer, anon
Why do you think you can figure out an alien language with some numbers and a computer? 3 bp boils this down to:
>oh, they're aliens so they don't understand lying
which is pretty fricking silly
it doesn't boil down to this, maybe try reading it.
>It's also one singular alien that does it in secrecy, which makes it all the more ridiculous.
In the book he was basically kept hydrated during a chaotic era to keep an eye on their radio telescope monitoring - essentially the dipshit overnight guy at any large financial services company who is there alone simply because they need someone. Nowhere near as ridiculous as classified Ukraine war reports being posted on a Discord server to win an argument by some dipshit 21 year old airman IT guy who asked them to tell anyone.
the discord thing is an astonishing act of idiocy which is the opposite of what we're talking about, not sure what you meant here
here you go, anon
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_forest_hypothesis
anyone who isn't a turbonormie heard of most these concepts before
>the discord thing is an astonishing act of idiocy which is the opposite of what we're talking about, not sure what you meant here
What the frick? Are you really this stupid? He was allowed to repeatedly violate security protocols and did it not for a good reason like getting paid but to look smart to a bunch of internet dorks. Yet you have a hard time believing that an alien working for their version of SETI isolated and alone for years could even be capable of such a thing. Almost like you are being deliberately obtuse to feel you aren't losing an argument, very immature anon.
>an alien working for their version of SETI isolated and alone for years could even be capable of such a thing.
our version of SETI is like an underfunded joke as well. They could have given up on finding outside life a long time ago and just kept up the bare minimum.
Wow. Reading wikipedia. So enriching ( if you are a midwit).
When humans need more living space, don't we just go yeet a forest to build some more houses? This is no different than that.
Wow you should write a book about your non story scenarios genius.
I would simply read the expanse or watch the show, both are better.
>the expanse
>muh ring entities
>muh ring builder empire
that show is much stupider than 3bd, cmon now
it's actual hard scifi for 90% of it and the aliens are just a dead civilization, instead of the alien invasion plot that makes no sense that's been done to death.
3bp is just a thing that talks about scifi concepts, which is not the same at all. apparently all you need for first contact is some numbers and aliens will understand you perfectly, which is something that movies from decades ago did better. it's ok if you like it, but it makes as much sense as hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, which i think is why the showrunners opted for the more comedic tone.
>which i think is why the showrunners opted for the more comedic tone
now you're just talking out of your ass.
>D&D production
>Chinese propaganda
Cecil would be a better leader
are we getting another season? I hope the water droplet scene is kino
Hard to say, it was only 2nd top viewed on netflix on the week it premiered despite having a higher budget than most tentpole Netflix shows.
Might have a chance if viewership picks up in the coming weeks
Watching the chink made me realize just how buttfricking moronic netflix is
why couldn't they include even the most basic science? instead its just hur dur da sun boost singal
No fricking way that shoot out scene with the nooks from the chink version was in the book. Bookgays?
Yeah it is, only difference is the bodyguard isn't Wenjie's niece.
Does the black man get within a light year of a female of his own race?
My butt is not hurt because I don't give a shit
The books aren't that good and dnd can't make a good show
Recipe for disaster
can you answer
Read the book homosexuals it's infinitely better, but none of you people read so it's a moot point.
>No racialized goyflix nonsense, all Chinese cast
>Nuanced ayylmao lore and infinitely more social intricacies
>Women are depicted as irrational morons
>Section describing how big breasted rural Chinese girls are (Author def let it slip there)
>Best character is a deranged Chinese roid cop who shocked NATOchuds with his brutally efficient and violent plan that worked.
>all Chinese cast
sounds woke, kys
>written by a Chinese
>written to be taken place in China
>all Chinese cast
>woke
I'm appalled morons like you don't get sterilized.
The only sterilization here should be a bullet to your chink loving, commie head.
the books are soulless garbage though. i read a hundred pages or so of the first book a few years back after it won all kinds of awards and really couldn't believe it. it seems like it was paid for or the state of sci fi is just that bad.
So you are bragging that you didn't have the attention span to finish the book? Brilliant review.
i'm not going to swallow shit just because, anon. as i said earlier, it's like asimov was a kid writing this stuff. everything is wooden and it's non stop exposition dumps of characters showing up and saying, "here's my story". i don't care if the concepts eventually get good(spoiler, they don't as i've talked to people who finished the books).
The author merely opts to show us the logical followup of having that position in the real world (and arguably even shows us a positive side of this at the very end of the novel).
please answer
It wasn't a shootout exactly. There was a second more serious meeting of the ETO where they were discussing how the organization is getting fractionalized due to ideology split. Main character, Wang was there and saw that Ye was their spiritual leader and she lore dumped the audience in some eastern-exposition style (some morons here can't fathom different prose for story telling based on cultural context). Wang is secretly working with the authorities and they do raid the large meeting in an abandoned factory.
>kino part
The Adventists sect had a miniature nuclear bomb for ecological jihad and threatened to level the whole place as the death squad had a standoff, the based roid cop ponders with the explosions expert and uses a roastie as a human meat shield shooting the mini nuke detonating the outside explosive saving everyone pulverizing the jihadi-roasties.
damn son thats wild
thanks anon
it's a book about smart people written by a dumb person that was adapted to tv by two even dumber people
the 3-body problem has basically 0 impact on the story itself. it could've been replaced with "our planet is out of resources" and the story wouldn't have been affected at all
Brainlet take, as a physicist it was a fun read because all of the concepts, FORTRAN use, astrophysical jargon, Newton Leibniz duel etc. is correct/fun and when its not there is a footnote depicting the difference. Some people are so behind in a race that they think they are ahead kek.
>as a physicist
taking phy 101 in freshman year doesn't count, brainlet
all that other shit you mentioned is just marvel-level name drops, not fun or interesting
Why is hard to believe? Are you insecure?
the rightmost book is written by a w*man
yeah and it's garbage it constantly references shit from the 1960s that you can't even torrent as a PDF to read with huge proof gaps. Not really the point but I love your perception anon.
like i said, phy 101
>like I said, phys 101
haha okay moron I'll take a number 2 with a diet soda and uhhh large fries.
Kind of shits me how reddi- I mean Cinemaphile cannot appreciate a few interesting concepts in a larger story that may not be that well written.
thing is, you can appreciate the concepts by reading stuff about the concepts themselves. what's the point of the story then if it's not very good?
>you can appreciate the concepts by reading stuff about the concepts themselves.
Name an example where you have done this.
discussion of anything on 4chins is a zero sum game.
Damn maybe the author was onto something here folks.
>as an X i feel X about X
Why do people do this now? It’s so fricking womanly
what do aliens actually look like?
bump
ok anon I'll tell you what the book has.
>they have eyes (confirmed through abstraction when they failed second unfolding of the proton)
>they frick by merging with femoids and splitting into 3-5 ayylmaolets (incels and volcels incinerated in capital / pseudo eugenic society as offspring retain memories)
>they have shimmery or reflective bodies as they didn't use flags but light during the live-motherboard era
>when dehydrated they are very fiberous
thanks anon
Plus they are like the size of rice grains.
lmao really? so how are they gonna conquer earth when we can just step on them like ants?
That's not cannon.
it is implied in the original series but never stated. The properties of the tri-solarans is similar to that of water bears.
>so how are they gonna conquer earth when we can just step on them like ants?
Kill us from the orbit and then make a landfall to siphon a swimming pool's worth of water into their space caravan and frick off.
That was from the 4th non canonical book
The showrunners have infinite artistic license to make the ayylmaos look like however they want. They never meet humans eye-to-eye in a time period of over 400 years and all that is said about their biology is a few throwaway lines about how 2 of them merge and split into 5 "children" to reproduce.
Naturally they will take that opportunity to do something creative and throw it away by not showing the aliens at all.
Because it's unbelievably stupid
?si=dgGLddcdhGbv6Hk8
This person's voice is the fricking worst. He puts emphasis on all the wrong words. He sounds like a moronic AI.
just started watching this and so far its intreguinng.
but why didn't you gays tell me it was mostly about a bunch of dorks playing some cheesy-ass looking vr game?
because it isn't?
>Netflix
>Dan and David
>Has black people in it
Really
i tried giving the chinese version a whirl
it was cheap looking and most of the cast couldn't act for shit
also thought the reaction of the different goverments were highly unrealistic
now why the frick would i give the netflix adaptation even a sliver of a chance
doesn't compute
Every military/intelligence service in the world being completely ignorant and sitting around waiting for some random chinese engineer to do all investigative work against a global threat is the dumbest addition of the Tencent show.
ah, so that was a little bit of extra propaganda which doesn't exist in the book?
In the book Wang is treated more like an informant than a lead investigator. The world governments already know about the ETO being in contact with aliens, they are just looking for a bit more information before pouncing.
Currently 14 minutes in
black man and a woman are the worlds top scientists
the girl boss scene wasn't as bad as i thought it would be
so far so slop
>you must use soience to save level 2
ok it's over
rest in piss this is as far as i go
Well you do you.
Mental Illness
the wokey shit is quite noticable but its only for 1 or 2 eps i remember, and obviously scenes that were added in later cause it completely stops. some studio boss was clearly happy just ruining 2 eps
Pure slop that doesn't do justice to the book it's based on.
are they all black and women in the book too?
no
How did the aliens know chinese the first time they ever received a message from another world? How did the aliens send the VR headsets to earth if it takes them hundreds of years to send anything thats bigger than an atom? If the aliens can survive life on the worst planet ever, shouldn't every planet with a normal star system be more than suitable for them?
Read the thread you fricking mongoloid, smarter people than you have already been told in this thread.
> How did the aliens know chinese
Chinese is an alien language.
> How did the aliens send the VR headsets
Sophon created it
> shouldn't every planet with a normal star system be more than suitable for them?
Two rooms behind closed doors, each has a golden bar you want. You know that there are tarantulas in the left room. The right room might be empty but it also might contain anything. Which one do you choose?
>Two rooms behind closed doors, each has a golden bar you want. You know that there are tarantulas in the left room. The right room might be empty but it also might contain anything. Which one do you choose?
You typed all this shit to say that it's really hard for these advanced aliens to use some telescopes to check out some planets, is this the audience for this thing?
Yeah, because it is easy to just point telescope randomly into sky and see habitable planets.
It's easier than folding protons into superintelligences, yes.
Yes, and they will reattach them.
It is easy to point telescope, but spotting a habitable planet in reachable vicinity is just about luck. Actually, they did just that and found Earth.
And the Sun is dimm from Trisolaris system, I don't think they were aware of it.
>It is easy to point telescope, but spotting a habitable planet in reachable vicinity is just about luck. Actually, they did just that and found Earth.
But you're telling us it's the literal closest star to their system, that is not hard at all, it's the first thing anyone would think of doing.
caught on fire? fell into the ocean? cut in half? tough luck i guess. just glue those drives back together.
Better than having a big magnet run over them or being blasted in small pieces. The plan wasn't perfect but the best there was, you fricktard. Don't you get tired keep being btfo and shown how little you understood a literal goyslop dumbed down show for normies?
You just told me the actual target were the server racks, which did get shredded to pieces. So if the guy never picked up the backups, they would have ended up with nothing.
How is this a good plan?
>And the Sun is dimm from Trisolaris system, I don't think they were aware of it.
thats your personal headcanon to make this stupid premise work. the fact remains that a civilization that can fold protons and bend the laws of physics to make magic happen exists right next door and they have an imminent catastrophe of their planet getting scorched every few millenia but they did exactly nothing to solve their problem so far, despite earth being the solution to literally all of their problems and has always been right there, yet they just never bothered to look until right now? thats some convoluted anime shit writing
Let's assume a very advanced species lived on earth, they were spying on them and that species happened to be so advanced that they can detect that. Boom, now you're fricked because they will destroy your solar system.
> thats your personal headcanon to make this stupid premise work.
Sol is the closest star to Alpha Centauri. The next closest star would take 1600 years to reach at the speeds they were going.
Anon. Should we re-hydrate the masses?
>rehydrate the masses
>next chaotic period comes too soon
>get boiled alive
Why would anyone ever advise the king to rehydrate the masses? This is emblematic of the problems holding the trisolarans back.
I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Did you rike the joke?
does the indian dude get cucked? done with ep 1
Yeah, by a dead brain
>thinking you can out smart a super intelligence
>All this is just from what I can remember off the top of my head when I first read the books, there's definitely more which I've forgotten. Overall the TBP just feels like babby's first scifi fanfiction, with super epic philosophical questions that break down after a moment's thought and space battles/technology which are kinda silly.
Stop lying homie, you have never read the books. Maybe the first one, but they didn't even speak about the dark forrest theory in that one.
You notice someone died in the park only after the boom when there is nothing left to calculate trajectories from.
To humans, sure there might not be any way to track what happened. But the aliens don't know if there's someone else out there who can.
They don't know what they don't know.
the dark forest is a moronic concept
the idea that hundreds of civilizations would pop up all at the same timeframe in the same galaxy that some cold-war situation could emerge between all of them with everybody just spying and hiding is completely ridiculous.
even a 200k year headstart, which is tiny in evolutionary timescales, would give the first such a massive advantage that they take the entire galaxy by default.
there wont be 500 alien races locked in an arms race, there will be one colonizing everything while others still hunt with spears
>all at the same time
Not true at all. Liu writes about supercivilizations that have existed for hundreds of millions of years. The one that 2D-ifies our solar system in book 3 is obviously far more advanced than humans or trisolarans
and what did they do with their billion year advantage? in a realistic scenario, they wouldve spread out over every galaxy within a 100 million lightyears, taken bilions of planets for themselves and snuffed out the indigenous life when it was still crawling from the ocean.
there cant be a threatening rival emerging when the power gap is that huge, they would hog all resources. for the same reason that chimps wont suddenly start developing nuclear weapons while we're not looking.
And then another species that see them from lightyears away just decides to shoot a bunch of rocks at their suns at lightspeed and all their colonies get destroyed. WOOPSIE...
It's not about recources, it's about how easy it is to destroy your competition.
Not to mention that the moment that two civilizations decide to cooperate they will shoot ahead so far beyond everyone else thanks to technology sharing that they can just kill everyone that doesn't play nice.
Wow you don’t understand the Dark Forest theory at all lmao. Stick to Michael Bay movies bud
the dark forest theory is for schizos who get scared when their phone rings. there is nobody else within a billion lightyears of us, we're the first. stop worrying about relativistic kill missiles and grab a shovel to help terraform mars instead
You are correct and that's why only schizos will remain in the galaxy. Hence, dark forest.
stars getting wiped out by RKVs and an interstellar war of extermination going on in our neighborhood would be easily detectable, even with our current shit tier space observation.
There is no war. The civilisation-scale murder might be just barely visible anomaly that occurs once per thousands of years.
But how that first alien knows he is the first :^)
the fact that earth has been sitting there, pristine and without owner, for hundreds of millions of years, yet nobody came to claim it. is proof enough that there are no alien civilizations in this galaxy
They might aswell be on their way here for thousands of years.
again, the question is: why NOW? why not 10 million years ago. civilizations wont all arise at the same time. earth had nothing but algae for 2 billion years, its not impossible that the complexity of life on earth could've kickstarted sooner.
any other planet with even a tiny headstart would've already colonized the entire galaxy.
if there was another spacefaring civilization in this galaxy, we wouldnt exist. they wouldve taken the earth a very long time ago.
the assumption that any civilization would want to endlessly replicate itself is just that, an assumption. what would be the point? it's not really intelligent behavior.
life tends to spread. if spaceflight becomes cheap and easy, its inevitable that we will colonize the stars.
due to light-lag, its impossible to govern the whole thing anyways, so even if the official order was to stop claiming new planets, pockets of pioneers would always spread out on their own agency.
reproduction is how primitive life survives and enhances itself, advanced life does that by building upon knowledge.
there's no reason to assume aliens would be endlessly multiplying their numbers like bacteria do, unless they're rogue machines.
Life naturally replicates and spreads everywhere after filling up its home
So any lifeform would do that, your probability of survival increases the more of you there are
That is survival of genes or whatever replicates. Conscioussness does not replicate.
What if they are immortal, but can only travel at 0.00005 mph? That's why it's taking them a while
What's the point going here if there is no intelligent life to kill? Expanding is generally noisy behavior and noisy ones are getting culled in dark forest.
the silent ones also get culled, dark forest falls apart when you realize its impossible to hide anyways, so you might as well spread your numbers, even if there is a predator out there.
radiowaves dont matter at all. just building thousands of space telescopes that are several miles in diameter is childsplay for aliens that can fold protons. you just have to look at other planets, its all right there to see. the dark forest isnt dark at all. you cannot hide your own planet and the fact that it bears life, the light is already travelling
This is why you build a Dyson sphere around a red dwarf. It's stealthy, almost no gravitational field, and lasts trillions of years. No one will ever know you were there. Just the blackness of space.
>Just the blackness of space.
Except the infrared radiation given off by your Dyson sphere.
If they can spot fricking space telescopes from lightyears away, they have telescopes of their own the size of their entire solar system, moron.
Behold, pic rel.
how exactly do you detect passive observation?
With space-magic, d'uh.
That's a very good point as well. The logical outcome of the 'dark forest' is either there should be a cold war scenario with hundreds of different civilizations hiding from each other too afraid to do a thing, or one supermassive ancient civilization that has consistently destroyed all others and will continue to rule forever.
But why wouldn't the silent ones track and then kill the noisy one? That's the entire premise of the dark forest isn't it?
Because then the silent one wants to stay silent. It is the noisy ones who are actually dangerous if left to grow.
Because the universe is endleslly big and you can't track everything. You can track a lot, but again, the universe is endlessly big.
It's science fiction. The author proposes plausible fictional explanations for all these "issues" that are mostly internally consistent in his series. Nobody is treating it as fact, and if you can tolerate a lot of exposition and autistic lore dumping in the last book it makes plenty of sense.
Ehhh it is kinda stupid that habitable worlds are supposed to be ultra rare yet there are two right next to each other
Plan to save humanity is sending barren woman to pick up 200 year old man and escape on the only ship capable.
He turns her down, so two women go off into space.
This is really the worst written garbage I've read and I'm familiar with Royal Road.
After all the shilling I just watched the first episode. It was ok, more positive than negative honestly, sure it was the same old female scentists and awkward men, but the acting was good and it felt competently made.
do people in the future have 3 bodies?
what's the problem with that?
Just a bunch of super advanced aliens chilling around the same star waiting to die.
the genre is hard sci fi anons.
putting your consciousness into a robot is magic, you cannot and will not convince me otherwise.
unfolding a proton is easily achievable technologically
interstellar travel at 0.1 speed of light is also easy. But unraveling the secrets of how consciousness works might be the hardest problem an intelligent species will ever try to solve.
i'll put my dick in a robot, deal with it
You could just put your brain in a pod in a hardened bunker and have it control a robot avatar else where.
Hard sci fi would not have FTL travel, instead travel between stars would be very slow, at most it be more like the Silk Road in medieval times, no galactic empires because of the large distance, travel time would be 50-70% light speed (for fuel efficiency) (like James Cameron’s avatar) for a very advanced galactic civilization, and like 10% (via solar sails) for a civilization that has colonized their home system
>accelerating to 10% of lightspeed for intra-solar-system travel
>"why did you send us jello, sir?"
>"because it's b***h-flavored, sergeant"
TLDR the Silk Road
i already have own severely autistic image of space age civilization in mind
but some of this is pretty interesting
currently pondering about all the space debris that would hit the ship at 20% the speed of light plus the current velocity of that object for 50 years
It's just boring as frick. 1 h of episode has content for 20-30 min if you cut the bullshit. And even that content is nothing special
If you had read the books you wouldn’t think this. The show is extremely fast paced. You have the attention span of a toddler and anything that doesn’t have bright lights and loud sounds loses you after 2 minutes
This guy did a great video critique of it:
This is a good summary. The show was pretty fricking dumb but I think it was made worse by D&D.
While we're in the science mood, can anyone explain why GR and QM aren't compatible and why should they be compatible in the first place?

Wallfacer Anon, we finished...
>Checks notes
Giving cancer to every twitch streamer and influencer above 200k subscribers....
How is this gonna stop the aliens though?
Should I watch this one or the korean one on youtube?
i can ignore plot holes like why they cant just zap alien WMDs if they can zap their VR headsets, or how they don't do any show of power that would be realistically required. just flickering lights and making people schizo is just too vague to let the people know if they are under legitimate threat.... but the shit that breaks the show for me is all the nonsensical. by making a threat and antagonizing humanity, while claiming you are the supposedly superior race yet require intricate measures to prevent you from being technologically eclipsed by the time your invasion fleet reaches them is paradoxical. 400 is also too long to assume no countermeasures for the interference will be devised. maybe if the author picked something reasonable like 80 years, then you'd have the added fire lit under your ass that your children will be the ones bearing the brunt of your potential frick up, so i am suspending my disbelief and just taking it as headcanon humanity can't for bullshit science magic reasons counter the alien super computer so that they can focus on the wallfacer side plot.
also if they put the wallfacers in a dark and silent room and just communicate via touch signals, like morse code, that will also completely negate it all. but all the same they can just use their magic science shit to kill the wallfacers. the world building just cant survive the refridgerator logic rule
>dumb people trying to write smart characters
it just never works out
do they say how old the trisolari species is ? they must be millions of years old
Yeah, that's what they say, about millions of years old. No real number.
people getting caught up on surface level issues, even though tonally and thematically this is the more faithful adaptation of the two
probably the diverse casting triggers the /misc/ posters infiltrating this board
You're probably the kind of basedjack that pogs at Black folk being in the middle ages representation of Poland in the Witcher.
black guy is literally just a moronic druggy stereotype
white guys are just your average soi "science" nerd
white women are normal white women
not a single person here acts even remotely like an intelligent person
either way its slop, its pretty good slop but its still slop
I don't care about the ethnicity of the character, I care that they ACT their character, not their ethnicity.
Do we really need the SalazaRRRR hard R from someone who spoke unaccented English the whole show?
Do we really need some dude-weed bro character in a science lab?
How do we know they're smart? 2 lines - "we were that 1 kid that paid attention" and their background. Nothing about their character.
Why? Because they act to be relatable, instead of relying on the plot to evoke relatability to the audience.
Cheap cgi ruined what could have been a really cool scene with the tanker ship
> Just build 100–400 billion[1] telescopes and track every star in the galaxy.
Ok, you did it while being well hidden while knowing many others did the same thing aswell. Now what? Shoot every emerging habitable planet? Or wait for signs of intelligence? Or leave the dirty job to others? What is your gameplan?
[1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milky_Way
Anon, that's why this dark forest crap is stupid. Civilizations would have to devote a ridiculous amount of resources to detection, staying hidden and destroying all habitable planets in case life ever evolves there and becomes a competitor.
Ok so your gameplan is to not spend resources to be hidden and destroy others. Well you race just got wiped out by those who did.
next
That's the whole problem. Either you devote your entire species to this stupid goal of killing every other living thing in the galaxy on the off chance they evolve into a competitor or you don't and risk the survival of your species down to a roll of the dice.
Well yes that's the game theory problem as it is hinted when the chinese grandma held Fermi paradox and Game theory books in the hand.
it's ok I already assume it is done. I am just asking what you do next.
And your race is wiped out by even even more advanced race. Next.
you take stock of every habitable planet thats out there and send your people there, because the fact that nobody has destroyed you yet is proof enough that there is no predator out there (earth and the fact that its habitable has always been visible because everyone else would have those space telescopes too)
The reason nobody destroyed you was because you were silent. Now you aren't and are dead. Next
Yes I see where it is going: the most advanced race is left.
> he only winning move IF the universe is a dark forest is to never ever ever launch any weapons ever.
then you let races like exponentially spread and your doom is a certainty. Next.
>The reason nobody destroyed you was because you were silent. Now you aren't and are dead. Next
So why didn't the aliens destroy Earth any time in the past 2.5 billion years when it was clearly visible from the atmospheric absorption spectrum that it is a life bearing planet?
Because the intelligence might not develop on that planet and as
mentions, shooting is not without risks. Thus you want shoot only when it is necessary.
> you cannot hide your own planet in the past, the light information of your planets past is already travelling
just go live somewhere else then
> if there was a hostile competitor nearby, they wouldnt have allowed us to evolve in the first place
Evolution into spacefaring race is not a certainty, and by your own argument, you want to intervene only when it is necessary.
>Because the intelligence might not develop on that planet and as
Do you see where this is going? If you even launch a planet killer of any kind, you will be noticed by someone else. The only winning move IF the universe is a dark forest is to never ever ever launch any weapons ever. mentions, shooting is not without risks. Thus you want shoot only when it is necessary.
So you
>know a planet is life bearing
>know that everyone else must also be trying to hide showing signs of intelligent life
and you still don't take the shot?
>The reason nobody destroyed you was because you were silent. Now you aren't and are dead. Next
again, there is no such thing as silence in astronomy. you cannot hide your own planet in the past, the light information of your planets past is already travelling and can be picked up by anyone who is looking. radiowaves dont matter, technology doesnt matter. earth has been a cradle of complex life for hundreds of millions of years and has broadcast this information for all this time. if there was a hostile competitor nearby, they wouldnt have allowed us to evolve in the first place
And your race just got wiped out by someone even more advanced. Next.
Do you see where this is going? If you even launch a planet killer of any kind, you will be noticed by someone else. The only winning move IF the universe is a dark forest is to never ever ever launch any weapons ever.
The only winning move is not to be noticed. Unfortunately that's completely impossible even with current technology which is why the whole theory is moronic
I know the whole theory is moronic.
>Try to fire planet destroying weapon
>weapon fails because of benevolent super intelligent God aliens stop you.
The first civilization to advance to God hood will look over all other aliens and make sure they don't kill one another.
Yeah? Well my God can beat your God. Checkmate, alien.
just like we prevent petty murders on the north sentinelese island?
Your race just got wiped out by someone even more advanced because they noticed you launching your superweapon. Next.
That's not how relativity weapons work, but okay
So you are going to accelerate your relativistic kill vehicle to relativistic speeds without emissions of any kind? Ok moron.
building 10k deep space telescopes at favourable lagrange points in your own solar system would only cost a fraction of your available resources, you would do it anyway, even if you are friendly and just scouting for locations to send your colonists to.
also, you dont need to keep track of every single planet in real time. as soon as you got the likelihood of life bearing of a planet, you can mark them and take another look in a few thousand years, what you want is a snapshot of as many planets as possible to even gauge the likelihood of having neighbors in the first place.
also, most stars and their planets fall out of the habitable category anyways, you wont find a civilization around a supernova or a red dwarf.
so out of 400 billion suns, there are maybe 10 billion you would need to check regularlyxxjg
how in the frick is a race capable of advancing to that point if their world gets destroyed once every couple of years ? even if we take into account the age of their civilization, it still doesn't add up
Keep in mind the game i mostly a highlight reel of the most cataclysmic chaotic periods.
