Multi-culti hobbit nomads make no sense. They're a divergent race of humans. Which means they would be less diverse than the people they descended from. Only after they diverged and established themselves as a people the different tribes of hobbits would then develop further down the line.

It's shit world building simple as that. It's shit world building in a series about the most meticulous world builder in history. It just magnifies how inept the writers of this series are.

Leddit figured out what the deal is with the Maiar that falls from the sky as a meteor and meets the Hobbits
They are using the poem from the Adventures of Tom Bombadil called "The Man in the Moon Came Down Too Soon,"
    >And he tripped unaware on his slanting stair, and like a meteor,
    >A star in flight, ere Yule one night flickering down he fell
In LOTR Bilbo composes a different version of the poem but the same tale, which Frodo recites in Bree.

It implies that the man in the moon poem Bilbo composed is part of story passed down among hobbits whose ancestors actually came into contact with a Maiar

These are noggits. They're distantly related to Shire folk.
Like hobbits, they also cannot swim and they loves pipe weed. They've even developed a more potent version of it called pipe crack.
But unlike Hobbits, the Noggits do not love peace and quiet and good tilled earth. They love gibs and rioting and sexual assault.

In this version of LOTR, the Noggits jump Bilbo one night outside the Green Dragon and rob him, taking the ring to Noggit Town. Unlike the Shire, Noggit Town is not safe. It's like an above ground Orc Lair. The ring stays there for hundreds of years without being noticed because Noggit Town is already so vile, one more layer of evil makes no real difference.

The guy who arrives via meteor is confirmed to be a maiar, but it's probably Tilion (guardian of the Moon) rather than a blue wizard or Sauron.
There is a poem that Bilbo writes about a man who comes from the moon and Frodo recites it in Bree. Originally this poem appears in 'The adventures of Tom Bombadil' called "The Man in the Moon Came Down Too Soon,"
    A couple of the lines
    >And he tripped unaware on his slanting stair, and like a meteor,
    >A star in flight, ere Yule one night flickering down he fell

They are using Tolkien's Man in the Moon story to create an event where this Maiar meets some hobbits and the story of this passes into hobbit folklore/legend all the way down to Bilbo/Frodo

I got all of this from leddit btw

What else do you expect them to show 3 months from release? Might get another teaser this month but if not they will just save the proper stuff until San Diego Comicon

the writers should care. you don't have to be catholic to enjoy lord of the rings at all, but to understand tolkien and write something faithful to him it's extremely important. Tolkien himself described lord of the rings as a fundamentally catholic work, and moral relativism is completely at odds with catholicism. catholicism and moral relativism are not compatible at all, so to see signs that moral relativism is a central theme of the show is proof the writers and creators fundamentally don't understand tolkien or LOTR

tolkien didnt live in england he lived in africa, and his catholicism was intricately tied to keeping his mothers memory alive
              >Mabel Tolkien was received into the Roman Catholic Church in 1900 despite vehement protests by her Baptist family,[19] which stopped all financial assistance to her. In 1904, when J. R. R. Tolkien was 12, his mother died of acute diabetes at Fern Cottage in Rednal, which she was renting. She was then about 34 years of age, about as old as a person with diabetes mellitus type 1 could survive without treatment—insulin would not be discovered until 1921, two decades later. Nine years after her death, Tolkien wrote, "My own dear mother was a martyr indeed, and it is not to everybody that God grants so easy a way to his great gifts as he did to Hilary and myself, giving us a mother who killed herself with labour and trouble to ensure us keeping the faith.

          >read feminist literature
Kek he wrote a whole essay about how if we allowed feminists and Americans to spread their ideals they will homogenized the world, ruining genuine diversity, and making it feel much smaller than it is, destroying any reason for travel as you will never be exposed to a different world view and cultural outlook. He was also a traditionalist catholic, and while revisionists love to point to the fact that Tolkein did not like Nazis or Hitler, they always ignore that he was a life long public supporter of Caudillo Francisco Franco, noted Fascist dictator. So go frick yourself while J.R.R and Christopher look down upon me and smile.

Remember how the showrunner of the Witcher said she would not randomly raceswap established characters?

Anyway, they already admitted that they are going to compress 1000s of years into one human lifespan, so the lore is fricked from the start and that is something that Tolkien would have definitely hated.

Both, while great artists, have done a lot of damage to the visual aspects of LOTR. Tolkien would have never envisioned it as the pulp fantasy garbage we are used to these days. Just check Pauline Baynes, she was Tolkien's friend and, according to him, the one who got the closest to whathe had in mind when imagining his world
