Not so long ago it was typical that a show would either not have an overarching story, or would only have one sometimes (like Star Trek). Now everyone expects every show to be all plot all the time, and if it isn't then there's something wrong with it.
Did anyone else feel like they were being groomed by this show? I didn't believe it at first but everything about this show, down to the music, the art direction and the scripting just feels malicious. Like some sort of wolf in sheep's clothing. God only knows what the kids who grew up on this show are like like after watching it.

The ep is literally about not ignoring shit and becoming stronger by overcoming it. this was a long time coming, SU is unwatchable because its filler, but not filler in a way that matters. through out the series, we see steven as a gem more than a human. despite being ment to bridge the gap between the two races. rebecca sugar shits the bed but constantly making us focus on stevens gem half while making his human half "silly human antics like elections l0l". the only part weve seen his human side have any form of use, was in the prison break episode where he couldnt get poofed. which was arguably pretty cool at the time, seeing steven give a huge middle finger to "superior gem tech" by being a fleshy meat bag. which is one of the reason why that season finale was universally seen as the moment SU peaked.
after that, it was all gem stuff. we saw how gem felt like a outcast as a gem and gave little attention on how much of an outcast he was as a human. greg legit couldnt take him to school or a hospital because he was a gem, imagine if little steven sperged out in kindergarten and activated his shield during class or some shit. so me humans that arnt okay with gems, human authority that capture steven to find out who he is to highlight how much of a non human he really is! ending with him being rescued by his human friends, showing that humanity is much more than what you are physically.
ultimately SU is garbage because it didnt do anything with its filler, it didnt even use it to world build the human side of him. opting to use its NON filler episode on gem stuff that got old and convoluted fast, trying to make steven more gem than human
