Why couldn't Rick have been a crazy old man with dementia instead a sarcastic quippy "everyone but me is dumb" grumpy man. That would've fixed the whole show.

It actually took a while for normalgays to get it, but initially a lot of Rick and Morty fans were genuinely pissed, keep in mind that a lot of them were expecting another april fools stealth premiere and they got this instead.
it actually interrupted the first few episodes of the Samurai Jack renewal which pissed off even more.
I would pick this show up again if they went entirely with bushworld adventures. It's their only hope.
I still watch Bushworld randomly because its fricking hilarious. I tried watching one of the later seasons of Rick and Morty by comparison, one with a canon train plot, and it was so incomprehensibly pretentious it required multiple tries to get through
