Uninspired I think was the word they used. I would have just called in dumpster trash to her face myself.

I found it very depressing that a nobody reception centred her life around work that her inspiration for art is the every day items at work.

Jim is the same in that his entire personality revolves around "I'm better than everyone else because I pretend not to care about the office" but his life does revolve around it

let's not be so harsh. that's probably the most competent stuff she has to offer. it's not her "artistic statement" it's just an offering of her works and skillset.
It's definitely not very good and there's some poetry in her art revolving around her work, but Gil's take was pretentious as frick. He's a stand-in for an art critic, the most pompous people imaginable. Comparing his homosexual partner's coworker's debut offerings at a community showcase to fricking Van Gogh is so lame it's unreal. Oscar is gay; Gil is a homosexual.

      decent bait

I think the implication is that she was doing the art while at work and this is what she had an easy reference for

    >show depicts an attractive woman as fundamentally mediocre
    >she makes attempts at greatness before taking an honest assessment of herself and realizes she doesn’t have it
    >goes back to office job and finds happiness in husband and family
If this was made today would it be destroyed?

She is mediocre because she didn't put in the effort. She wasn't passionate enough about art like, for example, Fuhrer. Despite having the drive and skill for a career in art, he was denied his rightful place in the halls of the masters for reasons beyond his control (jews). Pam is the mirror opposite of Hitler. She never would have been great. She never was great.

his art was amateurish and boring

homie exclusively painted architecture and yet somehow fricked up the perspective in all his drawings

His mistakes werent even that big, people who dont know its him always like the paintings, not to mention he wanted to study to GET BETTER, if he was already good then why would he go to learn shit.
Only reason he was rejected was because modernism was all the rage/wasnt a rich kid

He had no potential. If he had any passion worth fostering, he'd have continued painting. But he didn't. He's a failure.

These look like a teenager's paintings.
Were they supposed to be so bad?

Yes, the point of the scene was a bonding moment between Pam and Michael where Michael compliments her after she got trashed by the gays. If the paintings had been objectively beautiful and everyone praised them the compliment wouldn't have meant as much.

Reminder that there are at least 3 scenes in this show where the joke is "adult man wants to frick underaged girl haha"
