I have actually no clue why at the end they decided to make steven leave Beach city and the gems behind. I mean he literally worked his ass off since a baby to save everything and once he saved the world and could've been ruler of everything he dipped.

I just don't think having Steven continue the cycle of running away on your own that both Rose and Greg did is really that great, especially when all steven wanted was a stable home life and as soon as he finally has it he runs

He dipped because the threat was effectively over. Steven no longer had to worry about aliens attacking his town. He left to go find a new purpose in life. His dad did the same thing and it ended up perfectly fine.

His dad (same as Rose) left home because it was shitty according to Greg. Strict family, misunderstanding parents - I understand why he left, but Steven literally left just as soon as life was getting good. My man's suffered for almost a decade straight and said "frick it" the first day free and wanted to find more problems to fix (which id say isn't healthy at all)

          Anonymous

He left so he could find himself. He hasn't seen the world yet. He doesn't want to just save people anymore. Steven wanted to find something for himself like the Gems did. It's not even like he's leaving forever. When he comes back he will have a better sense of self and be a better person for his beach city friends. I get why Steven wouldn't want to just sit in one place.

Because it's a show written by emotionally stunted people who think learning about pop psychology from tiktok and tumblr has given them a mature and nuanced understanding of relationships and growing up. So they think a character going
      >actually I need to run away from all my problems and go make a new life for myself somewhere out in the world!
Is a profound revelation, instead of an immature, irresponsible thing to do that's only copying the sort of mistakes his dad made.

      Anonymous

He's not running away, he's taking some time for himself. It's not like he's going off forever. The ending was about Steven taking the time to think about himself before others for the first time in his life, and he needed time away to do that. Thinking that means he's leaving Beach City forever is a real stretch.

        Anonymous

It's still an immature thing to do. It's like people who think a vacation will allow them to escape their problems and finally put an end to the stress, but none of the stress actually goes away and all of their personal problems go with them on the vacation. Thinking you can just leave for a little while and come back a new person is just delusional pop psychology.

          Anonymous

It's not a vacation. He's leaving his home. It's what a child does when they become an adult. They head to college, they get a job, they move out of their parent's house.

It doesn't mean they're fricking off from their family forever, it's just an essential part of growing up.

It's what boomers did when they decided to sabotage the entire country. It's a very recent trend and all evidence points to it being a moronic idea that has damaged more people than it has helped. Each successive generation raised on this "get away from home as early as possible" mentality has become more damaged and mentally unstable than the last. Running away doesn't solve problems. It creates more.

Hitler went out of his way to create a genocidal war machine aimed towards entities generally accepted to be deserving of life. White Diamond had always been meant to maintain and spread a colony, which is exactly what she did. Blaming her would be akin to a vegan screaming humans shouldn't farm because it hurts insects.

There is a huge difference between colonizing your own species and a foreign one. Essentially gem colonization was akin to cutting down forests, which as a collateral damage affected wildlife. Hitler set out to genocide people just as sentient and human as Germans were. Also, I fail to see the point. Are you arguing that both White Diamond and Hitler were in the right? Or that White Diamond should have somehow corrected her nature on her own?

      No fricking shit
These people think everyone acts like a teen girl, everyone- immortal aliens, fully grown middle aged men, ancient dictators, wise mentors, stoic heroes... would all act the same. They'd all cry, whine, get embarrassed, get flustered and then get defeated with a nice heckin wholesome hug fest.

Gotta love how they couldn't organically lead to the story to this point so they just slam all of this PTSD shit in just to force a conclusion that amounts to "I dunno, go do something else for a while or whatever"

            Anonymous

I think the PTSD stuff was organic. In the original run of the show Steven is shown hiding his feelings and being affected by the dangerous situations he was constantly put in. They didn't explore it much at the time because the rest of the story needed to happen I guess.

Honestly Steven having PTSD and trauma from all that felt more realistic then him just being an ordinary teen having lived an extraordinary life. Steven became a much more interesting character in Future, I'm a bit sad his turn-around was so quick cuz him shattering/healing Jasper was kind of peak drama.

              >I think the PTSD stuff was organic
It really wasn't. Every crisis ends with Steven getting his shit straightened and figured out and then Future comes along and goes
              >YOU DIDN'T SOLVE ANY OF YOUR PROBLEMS
Because they thought they were being really clever by attempting to deconstruct the child hero trope with exaggerated trauma and panic attacks. Even though Steven is literally and immortal gem being and is not actually capable of sustaining real damage.

I think the most unbelievable part of Post-Change Your Mind Steven Universe is this idea that the Diamonds are completely rehabilitated and aren't doing anything nefarious when Steven isn't looking.

      Anonymous

The thing to remember with all of the gems is that they're artificial beings who are all built with a purpose. We don't know who made the diamonds, but they had a very clear purpose of "expand the empire".

Once Pink Diamond was lost though, that programming failed. The post-war gems like Peridot had inferior specs and you can see that even the home planet is falling into ruin. The mission changed from "expand the empire" to "keep the empire from collapsing".

So the Diamonds had hundreds of years of stressing out over things falling apart, and hundreds of years of forgetting their original programming. And it's shown that every gem can break free of their programming with enough time and willpower. So when they learn about Pink's fate and meet Steven, none of the Diamonds have any of those urges of "expand the empire" remaining. As immortals, they instead think "Oh, we actually CAN stop the empire from collapsing now. Neat."

I really thought future was going to be about Steven trying to deal with being in a place that no longer needs him.

And slowly breaking down when steven relise things can resolve without him like Lars and Stacy meeting again

then becoming agitated when people say "just talk it out" like amethyst did cause steven was that guy. And he doesn't know how to vent or is used to carrying the burden

Then Steven would be willingly to take the aggressive route but still hide is emotion with little cracks here and there like with fusion ruby and the aquamarine?

And pissed that jasper is not OK with the way gem life is and still dealing with his lack of meaning in life jasper and Steven fights and turn into training wich is a healthy outlet
(But the main argument for the ep was life is precious.)

I thought the first 2 seasons of Steven Universe were cool, obviously because of gem lore, but as the show went on it became increasingly clear that it was a low priority on the show but I didn't expect them to make it as bad as they did after the Zoo episodes.

The gem designs got gradually worse, homeworld was just a mishmash of random constructs, their idea of "less human" looking gems is just turning them into objects like a comb and walls, they abandoned that Lars/Emerald plotline and we never got a gem origin episode. That art book with the uncorrupted gem designs was terrible too. We didn't even see an uncorrupted peridot or what Sunstone and Smokey 1.0 looked like.
