>A King may move a man, a father may claim a son, but remember that even when those who move you be Kings, or men of power, your soul is in your keeping alone. When you stand before God, you cannot say, "But I was told by others to do thus." Or that, "Virtue was not convenient at the time." This will not suffice. Remember that.

Based. Who says this? Is it Hospitaler? The fact that the protagonist survives and even goes home, should prove that he's loved. He journeyed to the Holy Land to fight for God's people.

What if King Baldwin's underling disobeys him using that quote as the reason?

You can't just use the quote, and if someone who fought for Baldwin disobeyed, they would have to explain why. Then, they could talk about it. I suspect Baldwin would be either be able to
      >prove the other person was in the wrong
by referencing The Bible, therefore justifying punishment
      or
      >help the man see reason, so that he can continue serving Baldwin

      Cinemaphile is making me racist

Why do you say that like it's a bad thing? Racism keeps you safe.

It comes into play when Balian refuses to cooperate on a backstab of guy de lusigian even though:
        >Siybilla wants it
        >he wants her
        >Jeremy Iron's guy wants it
        >It'd keep the peace between the Muslims and Christians
        >It'd keep less people from dying
I can't help but think that sort of self-righteous idealism over pragmatic utility is a mistake. But that's the point of the line - are you answering to God or to your fellow man. Though might question if God would prefer more lives saved for your soul marginally tarnished by courtly betrayal. And at least for Christians the hereafter matters more than the temporal. Since I ain't a christian I just fall on the pragmatic vs idealism view.

It's one of those nice movies that can be religious without preachy. There's even a burning bush.

Don't they win in the end though? Besides, Saladin is potrayed as a respectful chad

Saladin always got a good rep in the Christian world even almost contemporary (or literally contemporary) to his existence. Dante throwing him in among the valiant pagans like Plato and shit. There's some obvious historical discrepancies in it, but only a butthurt would get butthurt with it. Like IRL Guy was a prettyboy trophywife of Sibyilla (I think) who was indecisive and followed whatever the last person's advice was, Reynald of Chatillion (the slimy ginger) was a super handsome guy who was just zealously anti-Muslim and wanted to go sack Mecca.

Gladiator and this are Scott's best historical epics.

Saladin won and negotiated for Christians to be allowed in Jersualem with a lot of exceptions. He was a hardcore muzzie traditonalist who unified a bunch of smaller empires. He typically won fights through brutal tactics, but also negotiated a ton with the Crusaders.

Baldwin died to disease before Jersualem was taken. The crusades almost always failed because they were spurred and led by wienery religious zealots who for some reason thought they could sail halfway across the world into a foreign desert with no plan and be all gud.
Many of the more competent, less renowned generals coerced into the crusades often didn't want to go and protested the shit plans but went anyway out of loyalty.

How did Balian piss and shit when he was chained up in the gaol? Why did the gaoler say "do yourself no injury, not all men are good for that." Why did Balian immediately go back to smithing weapons even though the bishop guy said he wanted him freed to help finish a cathedral? Why did Balian's half-brother hate him so much? Why did the city government stop hunting for Balian and Godfrey after Balian killed his brother and they both killed all the marshals (one of which was the local lord's son I think)? How was Guy so stupid to attack across the desert without plans for water? Hospitaler makes this movie awesome, though.

I don't know about most of that but the real Guy supposedly got called out for glaring holes in his strategy (no water) and did it anyway out of spite.

    >Balian, my boi, it is done, I have an idea. I give you permission to marry my sweet sister's breasts, the woman you love, and she loves you back, in order to secure a place in succession. This way, you, a trustworthy man of honor, can take a place as a nobleman, and Jerusalem doesn't have to fall. Salahadin, himself approves of this marriage, and when the news come to him he will stop the invasion. Don't worry about Guy De Lusignan, he will be prosecuted as a traitor and hanged. You will inherit more land that you can dream of, and the people you procured so much will be secure here and in your natal grounds. Wealth will be a problem no more, and you could even be king. And if you don't want to be king that's even fine, my sister could do everything herself. You can appoint someone else after all of this is done.
    >This plan is perfect, it has literally no downsides, nobody has to die, everybody wins except the people who wronged you, and my leper ridden ass can finally rest and go crit some monster in Darkest Dungeon. Not even the writers thought indepth how perfect this is. You won. You got your revenge. This is the most knightly decision you can make.
    >So what do you think?

    >No
