Old Man Logan was there almost immediately to warm his seat, they couldn't even play it straight. It wasn't even Bucky or Dick that were completely different people to take up the mantle, it was literally an alternate future version of himself.
Well, in fairness the 2nd run of Old Man Logan had more to do with Secret War/Battleworld than it did with Wolverine. Death mini ended in October of '14. Battleworld tie in came out in December of '15 with the ongoing starting in July of '16. You're more or less right, but I thought Marvel showed poise in not immediately bringing back Logan during the ... eh, what, soft-reboot or whatever you want to call it.

Sometimes comics can just be comics. Gage has satisfied more than he's disappointed, so I'll give it a read.
