>a young Jedi named Darth Vader...

>a young Jedi named Darth Vader...

What the frick is this oxymoronic statement? If you're gonna lie perhaps don't introduce confusing elements into your ruse, like how can a Jedi adopt the name "Darth", isn't that explicitly a Sith title?

Unless, maybe, it's not a title.... Wait, is that why Obi later says "you can't win Darth?" Because it's his actual first name? It isn't a religious monicker, it's just his fricking first name? How did they retcon something so overtly blatant?

Ben was just fricking around with Anibooboo, he never gained the rank of a jedi master that’s why he mockingly mentioned his title ”only a master of evil, Darth”

That doesn't explain why he solemnly recounts how "a young Jedi named Darth Evilman turned evil" with a straight face. It's a comically bad lie

Luke barely knows what a jedi is, imagine telling some trailer trash kid in the 70s about a guy named Imam Vader, he doesn’t know that it’s a religious title

Obiwan intends to train him in the Jedi ways, which would presumably involve historical studies on the subject. He's just introducing complications into his lie when it'd be easier to just make up a new name

Hmmm, it sounds more like bad writing and then more bad writing to excuse the first instance of bad writing. But because the bad writing was in a movie film with laser effects, it can't be bad writing, because laser effects.

But that's why the prequels don't make sense. Everyone acts like the Jedi are this vague thing that existed ages ago, but actually they had a massive temple on the center of the galaxy, and were accused of plotting a take over in order that Palpatine could form an Empire. How does anyone not know about Jedi, even on backwater planets? They know of the Rebellion enough to want to jump ship, but not about the reason the Empire exists in the first place. This would be like a rural bavarian not knowing what a israelite was when the Nazis came to power. Rabbi Wan Kenobistein's story makes a lot more sense if you just imagine the next two sequels and the prequels are a fever dream, and there's only New Hope.

You can’t really compare that with real world, a galaxy of bazillion populated planets with a gazillion population and then there’s these 10 000 knights at the capital planet, nobody has a TV or anything, most people probably just thought that the empire was formed by the likable chanchellor Sheev to prevent another separatist alliance being formed from the weakened republic or something

Really shitty of Owen to throw shade on Anakin by telling Luke he was a second-seat spice runner.

Reminder that in "Star Wars" (later retitled as "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope):

    - Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker were different people.
    - Darth Vader wasn't Luke's father.
    - Luke and Leia weren't related.

George literally made shit up as he went along. Luckily, back then he was surrounded with competent, talented people who could keep his moronation in line.

At this point, Darth was his first name, Luke and Leia fancied each other and there were no midichlorians. People need to be reminded that episode IV should be seen as a movie of its own. The whole franchise build around it is milking a simple story to death.

If "Darth Vader" was originally just his full name, do you think casting James Earl Jones was George's method of establishing the character's ethnicity? Did he change his mind for the sequel? Was Vader white washed?

            Anonymous

No I don’t think George ever had a black guy in mind for the character, David Prowse was inside the suit, he could’ve had some black bodybuilder wearing the suit if that was the case

              Anonymous

The guy in the suit doesn't matter if you know you'll have to replace the voice and don't intend to use the suit guy.

I could say the same about the voice actor’s ethnicity being of no importance since the guy isn’t going to be in the suit

Sure, but voice is clearly more distinctive in its suggestion of a black person, whereas the physical performance could literally hint at any skin colour

I don’t know if George thought about it that way, he originally had Orson Welles in mind as the voice of Vader but thought that his voice was too recognizable and went with JEJ

It's a grandfathered line from before Darth was a title. "Darth Vader" was the entirety of the name when ANH released. It wasn't until later it was changed so that Darth was a Sith title of authority.
