>AAAAAAHHHH GOD HELP ME!!! IM GROWING UP IN AN UPPERCLASS FAMILY IN AN IDEALISTIC URBAN TOWN AND I HAVE PERFECT TEENAGERS LIFE WITH FRIENDS AND GIRLDFIEND IM GOING INSANE!!!! AAHHAHAHAHA
Man's trapped in a time loop where if he doesn't die the entire universe gets destroyed. I can see how that may weigh on a teens mind.
It’s quite literally babies first existential crisis film. If you’re gay or a girl.
hating on this movie is super reddit. you'd be a liar if you said you didn't like it first time you saw it.
Movies can be re-evaluated. A middle-class (or at least have basic needs met) atheist kid can ponder the meaning of their existence + altruism of self-sacrifice without the stigma of bible stories. BUT altruism to the average liberal exists in the real world as "spread democracy" that is the front of a military complex + NGOs that rely on not fixing problems to get funding.
you talk like a gay and your shits all moronic
Now of you're a straight male on the other hand it's a masterpiece.
How could he have known that?
He figures it out pretty easily a jet engine falls on his room while he’s trying to stop being an incel. The weird wormhole he followed represented a branch. Him saving that girl from those guys made the timeline unstable because either her or Donnie have to die because this alternate universe only exists because of Donnie’s agency or free will. So to undo his mistake of saving her so other shit doesn’t go wrong he decides to die and remain a gay incel virgin so his mother and sister are saved.
>How could he have known that?
Doesn't he literally receive a book that explains EVERYTHING to him? It's been a while since I've seen it
That's in the director's cut (which is lame).
In the original he was just looking all kubrickstared the entire time and somehow knew everything he needed to know.
My takeaway from that is the director realized it made no sense without the book
One of the worst director’s cuts ever. I wouldn’t have a problem with it if the fraudulent director didn’t make it the “official” version. Most people end up watching that version which is a totally different movie from the theatrical cut
I remember a promotional tie in site, made to look like the book, that helped explain it. It’s established Darko is highly intelligent, which helps him figure out that he’s in an unstable parallel existence, but also that he, as the "living receiver" is guided in his quest to destroy the parallel universe by others, subconsciously
I do too. I think this was it
http://www.donniedarko.org.uk/philosphy-of-time-travel
it was just trendy to be angsty back then
But why male models?
Based gay incel. He would later go on the play a regular gay in brokeback mountain.
The bunny man told him.
have a nice day evil scum
>hating on this movie is super reddit
What? Liking this evil trash is super reddit
have a nice day
>evil
Yep, its reddit tourist posting hours
Redditors don't believe in Good or Evil because they believe in subjective morality.
I watched the director's cut and I didn't understand any of this. Guess I was half asleep. This deserves a rewatch
You're b***hing, but you're not a b***h
It's the same template as Twin Peaks but transposed.
A zany small town community goes through "funny" stock situations and motions but something meta-sinister is going on behind the scenes that is entirely tonally incongruent with the picture book "reality".
The main character is contacted by an otherwordly "entity" to fulfill a mission that has consequences to the whole of reality around him.
Generally I agree with these things, but homie had diagnosed schizophrenia, that shit is nuts. I would much rather be poor and have a bad life than that. It's basically moronation+insanity
The moral of this movie is that if you're mentally ill everyone would be better off if you died.
No, le director's cut revealed the drugs he was being given were a placebo.
makes it a worse movie of course, but so does "it wuz just schizophrenia".
huh? this never happened. The director said he had schizophrenia...
But he really was seeing a bunny. He wasn't a schizo
I keep saying this about the things I see too but people still call me a schizo
Isn’t it weird how everyone in the late 90s and early 2000s decided that living in prosperity in America was actually bad and then 9/11 happened and this country has never reached the peak of the glory days of the 90s and never will again
I think about this a lot. Neo in his "evil" stable office job that's not hard on his body at all and presumably pays decently with benefits. Office Space. I fear that when the human mind is given a life that is too easy we short circuit and self sabotage. We expect stress and the hunt so much that when it's absent all of the mind's subroutines misfire
Isn't it funny that The Matrix literally made the point? The machines initially put humanity in a literal paradise, but the human brain just rejected it.
The Wachowskis were pretty smart back in the day. Shame about the whole troony thing
>The Wachowskis were pretty smart back in the day.
They stole the vast majority of the story ideas in The Matrix from some book they read a few years prior. Including the part where the AI puts humans in a simulated paradise and humanity rejects it.
Baudrillard also shat on the movie since they were inspired S&S.
That’s where you get people like DFW writing about some vague malaise in regards to emptiness in the youth at the time. Just goes to show humans need a struggle to make life exciting.
This is unironically me right now but I' in college
I love this movie but it's actually much simpler than fans realize. It's really in essence about reality possessing the same qualities of a dream and being a shared dream with some minor quantum frickery as sidenote. With how many fans it had you'd think they'd bother to watch the fricking director's cut.
I heard the first released version was censored and the later version had information that was declassified
I don't know how you people can recognize that the characters in movies like this, Fight Club, Office Space, etc are just being ungrateful and whiny about their first world problems and then deny white privilege exists.
Why do you give a frick what these morons deny? I've seem them admit to all the aspects of institutional racism and then claim there is no such thing lol
Darko is literally israeli
Well when you define "white privilege" as literally anything even slightly good in the life of someone that even looks white it's hard to argue against. But then the usefulness of the term and the accuracy of the name come into question.
do you anons remember the sequel?
He literally has schizophrenia
>Upper class wasps get schizophrenia
Genetics are a lottery. Dude was just unlucky.
good morning sir!
>if you have a nice life you're not allowed to be depressed ever
Yeah. It's called being a dumb entitled shitc**t if you do that.
So whats your excuse for being so miserable?
I literally have schizophrenia and 1/3rd of the things I see aren’t real
based True Schizo.
what was the last false thing you saw and how many hours ago?
>1/3rd of the things I see aren’t real
That isnt schizophrenia thats just navigating the modern world where telling the truth has become a revolutionary act.
This is how boomers actually felt in the 1950s
>Live in the most plentiful time in US history when the entire world is destroyed by WW2 and the US is the only place that survived unscathed
>Live in a suburban house that your parents could afford on one income even with a working class job
>Constantly b***h about everything. Dodge the draft. Dismantle the welfare state. Have massive amounts of pre marital sex and smoke weed. Run around naked. Destroy everything that made your life good because you’re le unfulfilled
