I’m curious, how old are you OP and did you spend a lot of time in your grandparents home to know that this show exists?

Boy the way Glen Miller played,
Songs that made the hit parade,
Guys like us we had it made,
      Those were the days,
And you know where you were then,
Girls were girls and men were men,
Mister we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again,
      Didn't need no welfare states
      Everybody pulled his weight,
Gee our old Lasalle ran great,
      Those were the days

back in the day people would talk to each other about fun shows from the past and look for it, they weren't limited to what streaming channels would let them watch, zoomies like you will never know such joy.

This show aired on daytime tv reruns for decades. Personally I'd catch an episode from time to time while looking for cartoons if I had a half day off school. I'm assuming a kiddo like you doesn't really know what broadcast television was like? It was definitely a different time. You might think it's inferior to today's infinite, infinite on-demand content availability, but it did cause us to appreciate what we got more and let it sink into our collective cultural memories. There's a reason people still remember all these old shows from the 60s-70s-80s-90s and shows made today barely get recalled a week after being binged.

I genuinely feel bad for zoomers. Despite having everything at your fingertips, you’re in a little cultural terrarium, and don’t even know it. Zoomers have SpongeBob, the MCU, Fortnite, FNaF, and that’s about it. Half my enjoyment of stuff like prime Simpsons and MST3K was learning something new, and being like “Oh, I get that reference now!”

        Anonymous

I rewatch MST3K episodes regularly and it STILL happens, that shit was so dense.

There's a million reasons people could argue about why the current generation is so broken but I really think it's inarguable that the technology leap of infinite content and choice at our fingertips has damned us. For adults, it strips away the sense of meaning and emotional absorption of the works available to us. For kids, it entrains their brains to be optimized for being empty and incapable of retention.

Oh, I know, it’s one of the few holdovers. I’m basing that on what I see from YouTube, which is endless zoomers relating SpongeBob reactions to everything.

So, do you keep this response in a text file on your desktop so you can copy-paste anytime somebody makes a vague troon joke, or do you type it out from memory while you seethe? I’m assuming your estrogen-addled brain can’t focus enough to code a bot to do it for you, of course.

He fricking cheated on her, isn’t that disgusting of the character? And then when she dies he has the temerity to walk around delusional while his asian little girl ward has to make breakfast and everything right the way his wife used to make it, so his ‘my wife isn’t dead’ bubble wouldn’t pop

Right, at the end of the episode and after weeks of in-universe time and an entire episode designed for the audience to realize she’s gone while the character quietly denies it
