I think that's the juxtaposition of the ending. Abigail has two faces. One is the cute kid. The other is the monster. When she's with her father she will be the ruthless monster. When she goes to Joey, she will be the cute kid. The pinky promise is a sort of agreement to uphold the facade.
Remember the scene where Abigail dances with the headless corpse? I think that's a metaphor for Abigail as a whole. She needs a partner to make her fantasy real. She needs Joey.

Abigail is basically The Red Queen. And in those, she goes from being a genocidal sadist to protecting the main character and (in the novelizations) deciding her name is Rebecca and wanting be treated like a little kid basically.

Just saw it this weekend. Thought it was a lot of fun. I thought it was a nice balance between horror and comedy. It was also nice to watch a movie without any woke bullshit for once.

It goes without saying that Abigail is sympathetic towards Joey's attempts to get clean from her addition (despite mocking her for it). The fact that Joey is a recovering drug addict and Abigail is a blood-craving monster is the initial point of similarity between them.

It's a fun movie that I'll be buying on Blu Ray. It's annoying to see a bunch of people online who refuse to understand that it's basically a love story between Abigail and Joey. Not in a dumbass shipping way, but in a literal sense that Abigail hates Joey, resents Joey, but comes to want Joey in her life. "I'll see you around, Joey" is promising interesting sequels that will sadly probably never get made.

They knock her out to interrogate her, just like the Red Queen. She forms a bond with the female lead later on. She demands that characters kill each other to secure her cooperation. And she looks like a little girl, but isn't a little girl.
Also, one of the actors from the Resident Evil movies is in Abigail.

Female vampires are inherently tied to the idea of lesbianism. But because Abigail looks like a kid, they've taken the wise choice of transposing it into a craving for maternal affection. Abigail desperately wants to be loved. She wants to be a little girl and have a loving parent, and her father abandoning/neglecting her is the source of her rage. The thing is, Abigail is still a monster. But she can pretend to be little girl, and Joey can pretend to be her mother, and they can be happy. Maybe.

Who cares if it flopped? They don't get to make a sequel, big whoop. It's the kind of film that works better standalone, I think. You can imagine the future that Joey and Abigail might have together. Actually showing it could go off the rails in a lot of ways.
Also the lack of a sequel will mean the brand doesn't get bastardized and watered down into complete bullshit. I would definitely buy a novel if they chose to continue the story that way, though.
