For someone who hates capeshit he certainly spent a lot of pages writing about superheroes.
    >I hate them! HONEST!!!
    Jesse Custer was a superhero.
    Tommy Monaghan was a superhero.

Sorry chud but his comics are too mean-spirited and edgy for my refined tastes!

Not really and stretching the definition of a superhero pretty thin. Tommy was a way for Ennis doing a hitman monthly and in an interview back then has admitted that he forgot Tommy even had superpowers, which he rarely used in the comic. Jesse using the word of god a few times in the series big whoop.

and the second biggest reason to hate ennis is that thanks to him, people ignore punisher that wasn't written by ennis, and consider his version the essential one, even if punisher reached the peak in the 90s and most of the best and classic stories were from pre-ennis era

Yeah Ennis's problem was that he wrote too good Punisher stories

thanks to ennis I've became pro-abortion. it's not that he hates capes, that's understandable, pat mills, one of my favorite writers also hates capes. but ennis doesn't offer any intelligent alternative, and what's worse, he's a poser. he claims to be a military/war history buff, but he commits basic mistakes that a preschooler wouldn't do. frick ennis, he should put his pennis where it belongs - in his ass

I honestly see the boys as less of a parody of DC/Marvel and more as a parody of all the copy cat verses out there that follow the same shit "superheroes have a school/military/business over them" and "everybody has the same origin but you see copies of well known heroes everywhere". Windstorm, Invincible, MHA, Sky High, Zoom, and many many more have some variation of these and "heroes not being as good as you'd expect" tropes that don't real show up in DC or Marvel.

I don't see how The Boys would be parodying something that didn't exist when it was being published, but sure.

        >I don't see how The Boys would be parodying something that didn't exist when it was being published, but sure.

I don't know why that guy brought up MHA unless he's living in backwards time universe, and I doubt Ennis was even aware of Zoom. Better examples would be Ultimates (superheroes have a military over them; Spider-Man, Hulk, and Giant-Man are created because someone wanted to recreate the Super Soldier Serum) was around years before Ennis launched The Boys, though. And X-Men (superheroes have a school over them) was around long before that. Both are things Ennis would be aware of on account that he was working at Marvel and friends with some of the people who worked on those books.

Incorrect. It's probably why The Boys or The Pro aren't particularly strong works. There's no real passion from either direction in them.

The problem with The Boys is that its not really a deconstruction of superhero's because there's hardly any hero's in it. Homelander, Maeve, Noir, the rest of the seven are absolutely nothing like the characters they are meant to be pastiches of, so it all falls apart.

It works as a great parody of celebrities and the corporate culture that manages their images though. You're right, it really has nothing to do with superheroes, other than as a setting.
