according to HBO and Lindelof, the show wasn't cancelled
it was always meant to be a miniseries
was that really true or pure bullshit?

It did feel like a miniseries, yeah.
No it didn't
It had a cliff hanger ending so, no, I don't buy that. It also fully deserved to be canceled because the Dr Manhattan subplot was simultaneously creepy (for the necrophilia) and very racist (for the blackface).
>It had a cliff hanger ending
So did the comic.
The comic cliff hanger wasn't designed to tease one of the main characters suddenly getting super powers though, it was meant to imply that nuclear apocalypse was still on the table. The difference there is that the comic's ending doesn't imply the need for any future sequel whereas the show's ending absolutely does.
I wonder what you think of Angel's ending, which, even more than Watchmen's ending, begged for a sequel....
Yet it was written after the show had been canceled and was the way Whedon always intended to end Angel's story.
I never saw it. Is Angel good?
It has ups and downs, but the high points are kino of the highest order.
I keep going back and forth on whether I like it or Buffy more.
>Yet it was written after the show had been canceled and was the way Whedon always intended to end Angel's story.
Yes, Whedon is moronic and full of shit. What else is new?
It's not like he literally wrote a sequel or anything.
I liked the Season 5 ending of them rushing off into battle, because that's pretty much all they ever did
no it didn't, it was an open ending
The difference between an open ending and a cliffhanger ending is whether the creators intend to pick up on it or not.
No, moron.
No it didn't. It cake to a thematic conclusion with Manhattan telling Ozy that he's a dummy
*gets captured by the KKK*
there's some pretty good unintentional comedy in this pile
Legitimately, what was the most recent, or recent biggest, miniseries that was designed that way from the start. Anything 3 seasons or less probably feels like a failure from studio exec eyes. The content isn't done when it's story is told, the content is done when you hate yourself.
Shogun.
Masters of the Air.
Ahh yes Shogun is on my list. Will move it up a few notches. I'm not sure I knew it was a planned miniseries.
Shogun and Chernobyl were both very successful 1 shot miniseries.
I bet Lindelof kept the Dr. Manhattan dildo
>kept
It was his to begin with. They wrote a story around it just to get it out of his hands for a few days so they could get some work done.
>complete first season
implies they planned other seasons
That appears to be an unofficial cover.

What was the last good HBO thing? S1 True Detective a decade ago? Definitely not Succession. Modern HBO is the lamest shit ever, more like an Apple product than even Apple’s dumbass service, just lame subservient leftists consuming for the sense of status/prestige.
Chernobyl? White Lotus? Righteous Gemstones?
I liked Righteous Gemstones and Warrior to a lesser degree. S2 TD. But other than that, it certainly seems like they are a shell of their former selves in high quality original productions.
Just fine/10 across the board, Chernobyl got crazy overrated off the “prestige” factor. Surprised that modern HBO fans haven’t boycotted everything Craig Mazin, maybe it’s that media consumption is always their top priority, really seem to like Amazon media, too.
Bullshit.
watchnogs
it was always suppose to be a mini series but if they wanted to make it a 10 season series i wouldn't say no haha could you imagine haha
It is damage control.
>it was always meant to be a miniseries
Then it would have been ADVERTISED as a miniseries. The TRUTH is they ALWAYS want to get paid for another season, and if they're busy elsewhere or too bored to continue they step into a "producer" role while others do all the work and they still collect a paycheck.
no way they wanted to put more in.
A studio attempting to save face. File it under Ghostbusters 2016 having a sequel planned; Solo bombing because of Star Wars fatigue; Rian Johnson's Star Wars trilogy; A Wrinkle in Time bombing because of white critics; Birds of Prey bombing because of misogynists, Amy Schumer's Netflix comedy special getting review bombed by altright trolls, The Marvels bombing because of the weather.
