Reminds me of a story from Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings, where Aragorn kept getting mauled but kept right on ticking. That's why Jackson was impressed with him and took time to congratulate him for being tough, and took a direct dig at Sam's actor for stopping a shoot for getting hurt. Some intel, Peter Jackson hated Astin, he was hard to get along with, caused fights wherever he went, was picky as hell, always tried to be way too helpful and was genuinely enraged when people brushed him off. They lost more than a few days of shooting schedule just trying to deal with his drama.

      >Peter Jackson hated Astin
I heard they all did. Didn’t Astin write a book a few years go that basically him just b***hing about everyone he’s ever worked with, when it’s clear he’s the problem.

      >took a direct dig at Sam's actor for stopping a shoot for getting hurt.

If I recall, he stepped on a piece of broken glass during the scene where he wades into the river, and was bleeding heavily.

No, its true, he wrote a book that was basically him complaining about everyone else during LoTR. Read the reviews. Everyone says its Astin that comes across as the butthole, even in his own book. Dude must be insufferable.

I recall a short film he made while working on the Lord of the Rings included as a special feature, where in the making of, he seemed very full of himself. I watched it when I was like 10 and he gave me that impression…

On the one hand, I feel like he only ever plays himself in his movies. On the other, he's REALLY dedicated to playing himself.

Gangs of New York is a great film and DiCaprio doesn’t really play himself in that.

Django standing up in that scene was actually Jamie Foxx breaking character because he saw the glass stab his hand. But when Leo screamed at him to sit back down still in character he took the que.

    Did you know?

In the famous swordsman scene in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Harrison Ford was originally meant to have a 3 minute long, choreographed fight with the swordsman.Unfortunately, Ford had the runs after a night of drinking prior to filming the scene. Drawing his pistol and shooting the swordsman was completely improvised!

if these stupid frickers could just do my job and go to work everyday talking to normal people for just 1 week and not be way more miserable after, then I'd at least humor things like this
I know they couldn't though. I know for a fact they'd be begging for it to stop.
    Yelling is easy

I was involved in the production of the film 'Point Break' In 1991. During the filming, Keanu Reeves (whose role involved playing rookie FBI agent 'Johnny Utah') was surfing with co-stars when a small child was dragged under the waves and began to struggle to stay above surface.

As his co-stars rushed to help, Reeves held out an arm in front of them, stopping them and was reported saying by Lori Petty (who played the character Tyler Endicott in the film) "The waves have claimed her, let her fight for her own life". The crew, dumbfounded, proceeded to watch her struggle until her body disappeared beneath the waves, lifeless.

We later spotted him outside the child's house, making drowning gestures and thanking the family for their child's sacrifice to the great ocean.

Why are actors like this? In almost every other job on the planet you'd stop working and take care of the injury. He's not negotiating a $100 million business deal he's playing pretend and yelling. Why didn't he just stop?

it improves the quality of his pretending. It's like where they don't tell actors certain things will happen during a scene so they get their raw reactions.

what a loser you must be to not see the merit in keeping the performance going for the production and even letting it enhance the scene

    >Dicaprio then collapsed mid-scene, muttering requests for urgent medical attention.
    >the crew thought it was improvised and filmed a lifeless Dicaprio for 48 minutes. Help was sought once the second standing ovation had ended, Dicaprio still unresponsive on the floor.
