Basically in the last strike all the oldschool writers exited and they were all replaced by "talent" studios pulled directly from colleges, because it's cheaper that way and also because they erroneously believe that younger people know what the audience wants.
Because of that the quality of writing across the board plummeted and almost everything you see is meant to be forgotten in a week or so to make room for the next product on the market.

The way they conduct negotiations has always been terrible because they think they can outlast Hollywood due to everything getting shutdown when they strike.
