I started out doing extra work and student films. Really went nowhere. First part that got me into SAG was cut from the film. A few other small roles got me no where. LA is too big to get noticed. People said go to Chicago. Their pond is smaller. Went there for a few months. Very few opportunities, most of the time they fly in actors for bit parts. Same with Atlanta. But there people put me on crew work since they’re seemingly always shorthanded and I knew set lingo and how it works. So went back to LA and work more in production assistance than I do in front of the camera. Most of the people I started out with still work gig to gig not reoccurring roles. They work on the side doing Uber and door dash til they get a part or extra gig. Having PA experience helped cause now I can do that for weeks on end as opposed to maybe getting a bit part 1 to 2 times a month if lucky.
Another great thing working behind the camera is I can literally roll out of bed, spray on deodorant and head to set for these 5am-6am call times. Not even having to shave. If I get bumped up to on camera work, they put me through wardrobe and make up cleans me up.
