Fair. We do call "comics" the superhero ones and not BD as frenchies so that makes sense.
It's actually based that almost everyone is a C-list actor that looks the part. If netflix had free reign they would have spent twenty million trying to bill Kevin Hart as Usopp.

Bepop was some show that only a few weebs actually watched some 20 years ago and no one understood what it even was about or what they liked about it other than its vibe.
Bebop was actively hostile towards the source material. Either way it's fricking hilarious that Bebop flopped and One Piece somehow did alright, considering people always said live action One Piece was un-adaptable while live action Bebop is a slam dunk on paper.
>the main characters were raceswapped
Spike's supposed to be an Israeli israelite while Faye's the actual Asian. Guess they didn't know that Valentine wasn't her real last name.
One Piece as a concept is way more accessible these days but the fact its so long is the inaccessible part. The people raving about the show are those people that would watch the anime/read the manga if it wasn't so lengthy. Its a normies intro to anime.
>. They crammed about 45ish episodes into 8.
First of all you could easily read than just the east blue in 8 hours even if you are a slow reader
second if you cut out filler you could easily make it to the baratie at least in 8 hours
Either way you don't finish an entire saga with the LA nor the anime in 8 hours
Reading is asking way too much of people these days, even if it is a manga. I know people that legit get angry anytime they see subtitles because "they don't wanna read"
Anonymous
admittedly if you are absolutely against all reading (meaning subs are also out) then the LA might actually be the best option for One Piece
8 months ago
Anonymous
that was my initial point, the LA is the most accessible format for normies
Because they care about The Narrative and sticking as many mouthy females/Black folk/homosexuals in as possible, and therefore have no regard for the source material, as you know full well.
they didn't, you might think they did but the ugly brazilian Black person should be proof they didn't, it will get worse from here with more Black folk and probably trannies as it goes on but you've been hooked on it already
>the ugly brazilian Black person should be proof they didn't
Luffy has always been Brazilian at least in Oda's head. Godoy is South American and has a goofy guy face. That's what matters really. Putting a gigachad wouldn't fit.
>at least in Oda's head
Oda doesn't even know where Brazil is, let alone how Brazilians look. Case in point: The entirely ethnically uniform country of "Africa".
>he imagines him light brown or tanned.
A better mangaka wouldn't need to "imagine" his characters' looks via countries (or what he takes for countries). He'd just draw them that way.
Bruh it's One Piece. Everyone knows Oda isn't the best drawer especially when it comes to human characters. Also that's how he imagines him in real life not necessarily in the manga/anime. Pretty sure he had a veto on deciding what the actors should look like in the LA.

>Pretty sure he had a veto on deciding what the actors should look like in the LA.
Probably. Rowling did for Harry Potter.
But for Harry Potter, that resulted in them casting basically the cream of the crop of British thespians. For one piece, it resulted in a freakshow of some of the worst actors in the entire world.
Anonymous
>it resulted in a freakshow
One Piece IS a freakshow. Especially Mugiwaras. The other way around would not make sense. >worst actors in the entire world
They are okay. I think Sanji nailed it and the others have room for improvement. They still come out as committed to the character. It has some to do with the directing and writing too. Like Zoro being one dimensional.

>They are okay.
They are okay for a high-school theater staging of The Pirates of Penzance. They aren't okay for a hundred-million-dollar production that's supposedly professional and screened all over the world. Then again, no one who worked on this adaptation delivered a professional (or even passable) work, so it fits.

>They aren't okay for a hundred-million-dollar production that's supposedly professional and screened all over the world.
It wasn't. Actors weren't given insane paychecks. Investors were justifiably frisky to finance a live action adaption of a manga. From now on it might be however. With world-class acting coaches they could go from decent to good.

Bruh click on the video I've linked. It's timestamped on a timelapse of the baratie's construction to give you perspective. Engineering custom stuff like that is nothing but cheap even if you dislike it visually. There is also CGI everywhere. Even if it doesn't look top notch it's still a massive amount of work from hundreds of people.

Anonymous
>from hundreds of people
CG teams are usually smaller than a dozen.
Well, unless maybe for something like Star Wars where they have their own in-house department on standby.
>Why don’t casting directors get it right like this all the time?
Because most casting directors actually prefer professional actors with at least some skill over goofy looking amateurs. Hard to believe, I know.
Even burgerland has significantly more desert area than india, though I guess putting blue hair on a sexy light-skinned pajeeta wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.
Sanji fricking stole the show
Usopp was a close second
Luffy was really solid
Zoro was fine, though he more than made up with it in his fights
Nami was just meh
> troon Koby > Black person Usopp > Nami has no breasts
Ah yes, the perfect casting if you wish ESG money.
the Luffy moron actually tries and Luffy IS mostly a moron so that's good casting.
now now
I do hate the fact that Nami is flat as a table (flatgays gtfo I dont go out ruining your shit) but Nami doesnt look japanese AT ALL.
If we had to say, it would be Boa Hanwiener as Nico Robin has blue eyes.
no, contact lenses are bullshit, i get this is animeshit but dont overuse them if you dont NEED to
They most likely won't. Those outfits were fanservice. Both of them remove them quickly after for proper desert clothes that show minimal skin to avoid sunburns.
Bear in mind that not all the filler is bad, just most of it. G8 is unironically better than most of what you'll see post-skip, and the Usopp filler at Loguetown was also pretty decent.
Anonymous
Is there a good consensus on what filler shouldn't be skipped and what episodes are those like in that link showing which are canon?
the thing this show manages to get away with is that usually anime looks dumb as shit in live action, and this does to, but one piece is dumb as shit as anime so you final effect is that you just totally nailed it
Wouldn’t have realized that because he still looks the part. I’ll give no fricks if Vivi’s actress isn’t Egyptian or Robin’s isn’t Russian, so long as they look right and aren’t another nigjiko.
Black person what? He’s whiter than me and I’m an American with 100% European ancestry (because my parents took that stupid 23 and me test) because I go outside occasionally.

Original creators bowing down to producers and studios instead of standing up for their own work like Oda who demanded for development proceed; his expectations need to be met.
Casting directors on their own don't give a shit and take the easy way out for impressions on social media as opposed to people who truly fit the role.
Even if the live action remains popular and gets like 6 seasons, the original manga is so fricking diluted and drawn out that I wonder if they can deliver a coherent story with a satisfying ending for people who only watch Netflix Piece, without pissing off the manga fans
ive never engaged with the one piece stuff before and i just finished the first episode. it's surprisingly refreshing. no real subversive undertones or vitriol or DECONSTRUCTION. putting on another episode
plot hole:
nami isn't physically more fishmancum than woman
how does she survive the decade long gangbang being the only vegana in a crew of savage fishes?
I really liked helmeppos actor, kinda want to see him playing sanji tho.
coby's choice was somewhat bizarre specially considering hes supposed to become a giga muscley chad later on
assuming the show does get a lot of seasons, I wonder how are they going to deal with the characters that have already been introduced but are not relevant again for several arcs, like what are they going to do with shanks and his crew? are we going to get like 7 or 8 seasons of them just fooling around reacting to luffy's bounties? that would be such a waste of actors and resources, or buggy who became a fan favorite but is only relevant again until impel down, makes me curious if they could rewrite him into the plot sooner. at least we know mihawk should appear again in season 3 along with doflamingo, kuma and the gorosei, garp and koby could have cameos there too
They purposedly went a little off-track and changed the story to give more screen time for key characters like Koby or Buggy. That way non-initiated viewers can remember then more easily once they vanish for a few seasons. Same kind of stuff will be done for Ace.
sad that zoomers thinks this soulless shot for shot representation is something good? I mean don't worry the next few seasons will become Commie agiprop don't doubt it and you will all learn your lesson but how is it not obvious right now?
>Maybe this ain’t for you
Maybe this "ain't" for anyone who loves film and visual storytelling.
You know, people who were on Cinemaphile before capeshitters and Netflix trasheaters like yourself took over ...
His acting is meh and directing a one dimensional Zoro did not help. Also did not give the character the depth it originally had like fighting through the pain of Mihawk's injury. They have to step the frick up for the next seasons.
Most people working on a project are disconnected from it and don't give a shit, only a core few genuinely care, one piece had the bonus of being genuinely popular and Oda is pretty self aware of how bad the adaption history of anime to live action has been. >zoro is too much of a pretty boy
How is that a bad thing?? Lol frick off ugly homie
Why did this succeed and Cowboy Bepop failed? Both are by Netflix
source material has wider appeal
more attractive cast
Bepop was some show that only a few weebs actually watched some 20 years ago and no one understood what it even was about or what they liked about it other than its vibe.
Because this is sort of true to source, beepboop wasn't and the actors were insufferable.
Bebop was actively hostile towards the source material. Either way it's fricking hilarious that Bebop flopped and One Piece somehow did alright, considering people always said live action One Piece was un-adaptable while live action Bebop is a slam dunk on paper.
Have you seen how many episodes and chapters of One Piece there is?
Its fans are too far in to call anything shit.
one had an asian lead character
- the main characters were raceswapped
- the creator didn't want to get involved
- vicious was a lame white guy
- not faithful to the source material
the opening was good though
>the main characters were raceswapped
Spike's supposed to be an Israeli israelite while Faye's the actual Asian. Guess they didn't know that Valentine wasn't her real last name.
Fujos.
who dis b***h
One Piece as a concept is way more accessible these days but the fact its so long is the inaccessible part. The people raving about the show are those people that would watch the anime/read the manga if it wasn't so lengthy. Its a normies intro to anime.
But the live action isn't shorter
I meant length of the series not the length of episodes. They crammed about 45ish episodes into 8.
I know people that legit get angry anytime they see subtitles because "they don't wanna read"
admittedly if you are absolutely against all reading (meaning subs are also out) then the LA might actually be the best option for One Piece
that was my initial point, the LA is the most accessible format for normies
Because they care about The Narrative and sticking as many mouthy females/Black folk/homosexuals in as possible, and therefore have no regard for the source material, as you know full well.
they didn't, you might think they did but the ugly brazilian Black person should be proof they didn't, it will get worse from here with more Black folk and probably trannies as it goes on but you've been hooked on it already
There are actual trannies in the story so that makes sense
coping already i see
>the ugly brazilian Black person should be proof they didn't
Luffy has always been Brazilian at least in Oda's head. Godoy is South American and has a goofy guy face. That's what matters really. Putting a gigachad wouldn't fit.
So good to see my country represented, bros. Gg BR
The actor is Mexican
I meant in the Manga
BR ? BR ?
HUEHUEHUE
(sorry had to do it due to nostalgia reasons)
Huh. Except for Luffy, it actually makes sense when you think about it.
>at least in Oda's head
Oda doesn't even know where Brazil is, let alone how Brazilians look. Case in point: The entirely ethnically uniform country of "Africa".
Doesn't really matter. Just means he imagines him light brown or tanned.
>he imagines him light brown or tanned.
A better mangaka wouldn't need to "imagine" his characters' looks via countries (or what he takes for countries). He'd just draw them that way.
Did Oda take your lunch money or something?
Yes, actually.
For one piece, it resulted in a freakshow of some of the worst actors in the entire world.
>it resulted in a freakshow
>It wasn't.
It reportedly had a 15M to 20M budget per episode, anon. Where did that fricking money go?
The actors were given ~250k each for the whole show iirc.
>Where did that fricking money go?
They had insane sets and decors. Those things ain't cheap. CGI even if average is super expensive too.
?si=O_4s_P-4oQHAnKNr&t=258
>They had insane sets and decors. Those things ain't cheap. CGI even if average is super expensive too.
Come on, all of it looked cheap.
Bruh click on the video I've linked. It's timestamped on a timelapse of the baratie's construction to give you perspective. Engineering custom stuff like that is nothing but cheap even if you dislike it visually. There is also CGI everywhere. Even if it doesn't look top notch it's still a massive amount of work from hundreds of people.
>from hundreds of people
CG teams are usually smaller than a dozen.
Well, unless maybe for something like Star Wars where they have their own in-house department on standby.
Stfu you unfun b***hy moron
>unfun
Get some standards.
>Why don’t casting directors get it right like this all the time?
Because most casting directors actually prefer professional actors with at least some skill over goofy looking amateurs. Hard to believe, I know.
Yeah, that's why.
>That top she wore in the Baratie episode
Sniffable pit
Kys
All ONE PIECE characters are cool
This is anti-Hollywood
cobra kai actors coming to one piece??
unironically because they weren't afraid to cast at least a few white people
Now let’s just hope they don’t frick up Vivi by casting anything besides a 10/10 sand-goddess.
>tfw it ends up being Zendaya
She's gonna be Indian or half Indian
Even burgerland has significantly more desert area than india, though I guess putting blue hair on a sexy light-skinned pajeeta wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.
Hope not, Pajeets are the ugliest
hot more
That's reserved for Robin.
Robin's Russian.
I wonder what your professional success rate is. Ass.
What's that weird thing they are doing with their feet?
Sanji fricking stole the show
Usopp was a close second
Luffy was really solid
Zoro was fine, though he more than made up with it in his fights
Nami was just meh
3 of the 5 actors are persons of color
all of them are people of color. there are no transparent people in the show.
Never seen the anime but I really like the guy who plays Luffy. He's extremely charismatic in a goofy way.
>Sanji actor learned how to cook and made actual meals for the cast on set
Beyond based.
You can see he is invested in the show.
They did the impossible and cast likable people
?si=t0KhFWSgzcbt8Y32
> troon Koby
> Black person Usopp
> Nami has no breasts
Ah yes, the perfect casting if you wish ESG money.
the Luffy moron actually tries and Luffy IS mostly a moron so that's good casting.
>nami no longer naked and jiggling around
>no longer have to be distracted by her bullshit
phew
If she starts getting implants in every successive season, i'll retract my statements and give them a solid Bravo.
velvet has no chin and makes the stupidest fricking faces. look does she really think that filthy frank face she's pulling looks cute?
now now
I do hate the fact that Nami is flat as a table (flatgays gtfo I dont go out ruining your shit) but Nami doesnt look japanese AT ALL.
If we had to say, it would be Boa Hanwiener as Nico Robin has blue eyes.
no, contact lenses are bullshit, i get this is animeshit but dont overuse them if you dont NEED to
She's not flat, that pictures has her in a sports bra with her arms up.
She's flat, homie.
You'd need at the very least a 100C to play Nami and that one doesnt even get to B.
You know a troon did the casting.
There's some way between B and flat. You can't just cast for tiddies and expect the b***h to act.
It should have been a real redhead with big breasts.
We honestly need The Architect to get a hold of the new nami actress. He can fix her over time. Whoever she's dating knows what needs to be done
>17 sticks
i'm actually irrationally upset that it's such an odd and arbitrary number
Lufemale
She looks like a blob, you're just a size queen.
oh god I want to see under her skirt oh god... just one look please...
Shitflix Is still 10:1 In bad anime casting.
Odds of these outfits being done justice?
me in the bottom-right
Looking grim
>top left
Still think Enji would make a kino Robin since Pootin’s homosexualry probably means an actual Russian is off the table.
any pale, tall slav cutie would do
They most likely won't. Those outfits were fanservice. Both of them remove them quickly after for proper desert clothes that show minimal skin to avoid sunburns.
It makes me happy to see the 5 core racial groups working in Harmony; Black, White, Mexican, Asian, and Woman.
You silly b***h, one of those is not a core racial group.
Sorry, Latino
Latino is just an asian white mix.
Didn't want to get into One Piece because it's +1000 episodes. Is this a good adaptation or isn't a replacement for the manga/anime?
Get into it, skip the post time skip arc and all fillers. You're now reduced to about 300 episodes, you're welcome
I know there's a list somewhere of which episodes are filler and which aren't, is that a good thing to follow?
Yes, with one piece it's pretty obvious what is filler and what not
https://www.animefillerlist.com/shows/one-piece
Thank you.
Bear in mind that not all the filler is bad, just most of it. G8 is unironically better than most of what you'll see post-skip, and the Usopp filler at Loguetown was also pretty decent.
Is there a good consensus on what filler shouldn't be skipped and what episodes are those like in that link showing which are canon?
G8 is good, skip the rest.
It's fine, but it covers a tiny fraction.
the thing this show manages to get away with is that usually anime looks dumb as shit in live action, and this does to, but one piece is dumb as shit as anime so you final effect is that you just totally nailed it
Nami is Swedish not a ugly Jap you dirty subhuman
have a nice day. For all the best parts of the story Nami was a petite woman with short hair.
Everything good you see about this show is because if Oda
Are they going to make ace brown?
He's a white freckled man
I hope not but Wokeflix is known for stunts like that
White (Hispanic)
Ace is tanned
Roger is white
but then again young luffy is a different race from old luffy so maybe they play it looser with race.
do females really react like this to a little bit of skin?
the frick is wrong with you
I stopped watching after this scene.
wasn't that the last scene
Good question? Are casting directors just moronic? Or do they get direct orders to make bad casting choices?
You're so fricking dumb I think you're doing on purpose
imagine watching or following a manga that is destined to have like over 1k episodes
fricking wrap the story up already
the blond guy is a sandniggger
And you are a black person. Race doesn't mean anything at the end of day
sandBlack person mad mdr
Wouldn’t have realized that because he still looks the part. I’ll give no fricks if Vivi’s actress isn’t Egyptian or Robin’s isn’t Russian, so long as they look right and aren’t another nigjiko.
>Wouldn’t have realized that
are you blind?
Not everybody is an asiduous /misc/tard bro
>asiduous
**assiduous
Black person what? He’s whiter than me and I’m an American with 100% European ancestry (because my parents took that stupid 23 and me test) because I go outside occasionally.
>Black person what? He’s whiter than me and I’m an American
you guys are beyond parody
as a european he looks arab to me.
I am not saying inferior or that you can't cast arabs. Its fine. but don't tell me arabs are white.
I’m a bit lighter than them but he’s still lighter than me. Anyway here’s your 100% Egyptian Vivi.
the average westerner thinks that arab = brown
I am just saying arab = not white
whatever you want to call it.
I don't see a white person cast as Sanji.
There are white Arabs and there are brown Arabs, not everything is one dimensional. That Sanji dude is mixed though which is why he looks so white.
But he also looks significantly arab and therefore not white
this guy is half german
nobody would call him white
to me calling this sanji white is just as ridiculous
If you didn’t know he was half Arab you would never have guessed, come on dude
His facial features are extremely arab
maybe you americans can't tell but we have lots of arabs here in europe
Maybe you genuinely can't see it
And again.
No problem with the casting. he is a great sanji. I hope he stays and keeps being sanji.
>extremely arab
I'm Dutch and you're an idiot. He looks like a bong if anything.
Even back when he's fat, he looked like at most a tunisian. No, Tunisian/Moroccan/Algerian are not arabs
Its not white or european
>this is who americans claim is whiter than them
White doesn't mean "has fair skin," it means European Caucasoid, moron.
If you’re being technical about it, only English people are “white”. Everyone else is a wog.
I am actually fine with that. At least then the whole "white people can't cook" would actually be true
No.
I'm lebanese and whiter than you.
maybe
but not european
>but not european
Agreed, but I never claimed to be.
Do you think europeans and lebanese look interchangeable?
Some, yes. Lebanon has a mix of people you'd consider middle eastern and others you wouldn't be able to distinguish from a european.
I've never been assumed anything other than a generic American euromutt until people see my last name.
In my family most of people are on the darker side, but I'm (too) pale and have blue eyes etc. My grandma had blonde hair.
Now if you're talking about southern Europe like spain/south france/italy/greece/etc. then yes across the board.
Didn't I ask you earlier if you looked European and you said no?
I said I was lebanese and whiter than you.
You said >but not European.
I agreed, I'm not European.
>talking about looks
>You look whiter
>YES but you don't LOOK European
>Agreed
context is hard for ESL I gues
English is my first language.
So just an idiot
Or you purposely ignored context to make some spiel about being white
Don't blame me for your failure to communicate clearly.
Sorry for not communicating clearly. Since we were talking exclusively about looks I said you probably do look white but you do not look european
Europe is a large continent though with different phenotypes depending on region. An Italian looks nothing like a Norwegian but both are European. So what do you mean by "looks European"?
French like sanji is supposed to be
But you also don't look german or like any scandinavian or any slav
so all of them really
I could easily pass as french, just google images of french people, the majority even look swarthier than me. Spain, France, Italy, Greece, etc.
I agree I could not pass as German/Scandinavian/Slav.
let's not conflate algerians and africans with "french" in this context just because they get to claim it on their passport
Interesting that you see french and german as so different considering they share a border and some areas where people speak both
If you're white, don't you have a lot of European ancestry?
Original creators bowing down to producers and studios instead of standing up for their own work like Oda who demanded for development proceed; his expectations need to be met.
Casting directors on their own don't give a shit and take the easy way out for impressions on social media as opposed to people who truly fit the role.
Nami-swannn
>perfect casting
>random Black person and some walled b***h with zero curves
>zero curves
that's how I know you haven't even watched it. Somebody post the webm
Ussop is black though
Usopp is a mixed-moor, Oda himself directly told me.
Oda had them by the balls
Anime and anime adaptations are insanely gay, matched only by Warhammer 40k.
Even if the live action remains popular and gets like 6 seasons, the original manga is so fricking diluted and drawn out that I wonder if they can deliver a coherent story with a satisfying ending for people who only watch Netflix Piece, without pissing off the manga fans
SEX WITH NAMI
I cook for her
Oda must've fought tooth and nail against Netflix ESG committee for this specific shot
>ESG
Even the blackrock king homosexual just admitted that ESG isn’t profitable.
was that the guy who wants to force people to hate meat by spreading ticks or is that some other psychopath
why would it be, it literally says "increase costs for no benefit"
Please don’t frick up Vivi
No he didnt, thats why theres only a naked man in this show
>has a black person
Anime is supposed to be about this dreamy, desirable place
Having black people ruins that
There are a lot of black characters in the manga
ive never engaged with the one piece stuff before and i just finished the first episode. it's surprisingly refreshing. no real subversive undertones or vitriol or DECONSTRUCTION. putting on another episode
plot hole:
nami isn't physically more fishmancum than woman
how does she survive the decade long gangbang being the only vegana in a crew of savage fishes?
there are women in fishman controlled villages
Fish don't have dicks.
Liked the show, too bad we won’t get season 2 for a long while because of the strike, and by then no one will care anymore
I really liked helmeppos actor, kinda want to see him playing sanji tho.
coby's choice was somewhat bizarre specially considering hes supposed to become a giga muscley chad later on
the director said it would be too much to cast a fat kid and have him slim down and get fit in a movie about holes
If only Dragon Ball Evolution came out in 2023 instead of 2009 and the Shills will Love it too
assuming the show does get a lot of seasons, I wonder how are they going to deal with the characters that have already been introduced but are not relevant again for several arcs, like what are they going to do with shanks and his crew? are we going to get like 7 or 8 seasons of them just fooling around reacting to luffy's bounties? that would be such a waste of actors and resources, or buggy who became a fan favorite but is only relevant again until impel down, makes me curious if they could rewrite him into the plot sooner. at least we know mihawk should appear again in season 3 along with doflamingo, kuma and the gorosei, garp and koby could have cameos there too
They purposedly went a little off-track and changed the story to give more screen time for key characters like Koby or Buggy. That way non-initiated viewers can remember then more easily once they vanish for a few seasons. Same kind of stuff will be done for Ace.
sad that zoomers thinks this soulless shot for shot representation is something good? I mean don't worry the next few seasons will become Commie agiprop don't doubt it and you will all learn your lesson but how is it not obvious right now?
>i should play fleet admiral...but still allowed to be a warlord and yonku. my character can handle that
Isn't Luffy supposed to be a teenager? Why does he look 30?
he's 20. the actor, I mean.
Supposed teenagers played by people in their 30's is a decades-old Hollywood tradition.
>Maybe this ain’t for you
Maybe this "ain't" for anyone who loves film and visual storytelling.
You know, people who were on Cinemaphile before capeshitters and Netflix trasheaters like yourself took over ...
It's funny because nobody ever discusses the show. They only discuss characters' races
Why do we hate him?
His acting is meh and directing a one dimensional Zoro did not help. Also did not give the character the depth it originally had like fighting through the pain of Mihawk's injury. They have to step the frick up for the next seasons.
Is this entire thread just bots? I refuse to believe that Cinemaphile likes this slop.
Cope
This show is entirelt carried by the pseudo-shortstack playing nami
