It was as hamfisted as the 'baggage' in Darjeeling Express.

this film was true cinema. james gray is in the truest sense an artist. i dont expect a member of the consumer masses to appreciate a film like this.

heh...you inferiors never cease to entertain me

It would’ve been better if they didn’t have any voiceover narration. It pops in and out throughout the movie and only exists to explain the plot again for casual viewers on their phones. That narration was so fricking annoying because we’d watch a scene and then he’d explain the importance of that scene/whatever he was thinking and then he’d go into a psych eval where he explains the importance of that scene/whatever he was thinking. They marketed it as the next 2001 Space Odyssey but put barely any effort and then added that stupid narration after test audiences complained about stupid shit like how they were on their phones the whole time. Out of all the films in 2019, this was the worst, worse than Episode 9.

I remember reading that they added the monkey scene because test audiences were checking out before anything happened

there's space movies with zero violence and interpersonal drama, that are far more exciting than this, it's just a bad movie

Out of the three big modern astronaut movies (Interstellar, Ad Astra, The Martian), this was my least favourite which is disappointing considering Brad Pitt is my favourite actor.

don't get me started on interstellar, nolan is a huge fricking homosexual who cut out the "interstellar" part of the film in favor of his pseudophilosophical feminist garbage

        This is a bad opinion.

Ad Astra is a great movie. Its funny to see people self filter because they can’t sit and watch something without keeping their hands busy on a phone or something.

Films like this aren't science fiction, they're boring relationship dramas that they try to spice up with science fiction images.

The theme is: don't knock yourself out about your abandonment issues.

The rest of the story was a metaphor about trying really hard to connect with your abandonment parent.

    It's not a SF movie.

Hollywood almost never makes science fiction film, it makes allegories. So, you go through a worm hole, etc and end up in your kid's bedroom.

    I can't watch this stuff.

Going into space or whatever just to get insight into your dad, is genetic. You could replace "space" with "jungle" and it's the same story.

It is definitely science fiction. It’s a mystery thriller adventure movie. You got the theme mixed up with the plot bud.

        >It is definitely science fiction.
It's a sci fi mystery box with a hallmark movie for guys inside. And it's a pretty bad surprise when the setup is "space station orbiting Neptune looking for alien signals goes dark".

The premise was seemingly comfy enough that I stuck through it to see where it was going, and I regret that choice. Such a fricking moronic bait & switch.

      >nasa moon cars
yeah no the moon car was made to be as tiny and lightweight as humanly possible to be able to launch it with the lunar module for a reasonable cost

if you can build all that shit like lunar colonies and spaceships and giant crater sized antennae then you can build large armored vehicles, in fact much larger than anything you could build on earth

but instead they just use the generic "nasafop" look to give it the veneer of hard sci if
