TPM is a fun space adventure film just like star wars is supposed to be, there's a few plotholes but nothing that spoils the experience

the other two are unsalvageable and boring

Well it depends. I think Moonraker and TLW are solid, Godzilla is a betreyal and travesty, I've never seen The Neverending Story II or Star Trek TMP the rest falls somewhere in between.

      Anonymous

      >Godzilla is a betreyal and travesty
it's way more faithful to the original than the cheesy showa crap

        Anonymous

No it fricking isn't. That one changed the tone but wasn't an illogical progression for the sequels because even in the original Godzilla wasn't just a metaphor but by his own admission Emmerich didn't want to make his movie because Godzilla, being a living being and a character in the original movies, wasn't as appealing to him as a tornado or an earthquake would. He just wants to film natural disasters so he doesn't have to care about characters or themes.

          Anonymous

no you got it backwards, he didn't want to make the goofy godzilla, he wanted godzilla to be a more interesting and realistic character again with a more modern design

the absolute shortsightedness of showa Black folk is incomprehensible

            Anonymous

He said it himself he didn't care about Godzilla and the movie obviously reflects that. And if he thought back in 1998 that the series was still stuck in the 70s it's on him although those movies were much better than his anyway. Some say it's a better remake of The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms but honestly Emmerich Zilla is flatter than even Rhedosaurus.

              Anonymous

you totally misunderstood everything he said
you are the one who don't care about godzilla
              godzilla fans hate real godzilla
even toho said it was exactly what godzilla would have been like if it had been made today with modern technology, that was before the """"""""fan""""""""" backlash, and japs are notoriously spineless so of course they started trashing it also after that

                Anonymous

It was a PR nightmare right from the start. Even before the movie came out (and was trashed by the critics and fans) the design leaked and was hated so much that Devlin had to come out and lie to people that it's not real. And Toho hated it as well and only gave their greenlight after they were told that it's either that or nothing. If only this movie wasn't such a boring, soulless chore to get through.

                >It was a PR nightmare right from the start.
no it was hyped from the start
                >(and was trashed by the critics and fans)
and we all know how much critics are worth
and as I said godzilla "fans" very intensely hate for real godzilla, they just want their clown show
it was loved by general audiences, most successful monster movie ever made by a very large margin and remained the most rented film worldwide for a decade
                cope

                Anonymous

It has nothing to do with the actual Godzilla. Probably because it was made by people who hated the series and didn't want to make the movie. So when it came out the sequels were cancelled and Toho backed away from their ambitious plans to make Godzilla an international brand for the next 16 years.

                Anonymous

                >the sequels were cancelled
naw, there was more than enough financial incentive to make a sequel and it was in development for a while, it was only the "fan" attack on the studio which got it shut down

the sequel had an even more kino story than the first one and showa Black folk have yet again robbed the world of a great and important work of art

                >the sequel had an even more kino story than the first one and showa Black folk have yet again robbed the world of a great and important work of art
Details? The only thing I know from the scrapped sequel was the Godzilla design was supposed to be more faithful to the original.

                Anonymous

No, that was the cancelled version written by Terry Rossio with effects by Stan Winston's studio and directed by Jan de Bont. Tristar rejected that concept for budget reasons so they picked Emmerich's version that was cheaper even though he didn't even want to make it and the movie ended up costing as much as the Rossio version anyway. The sequel was cancelled because of negative reception and box office results compared to the aggressive marketing campaign. The sequel to the Emmerich version would've been more like a real Godzilla movie with a new Godzilla (before the Emmerich design was disinherited and renamed Zilla) against a monster called Queen b***h.

It's a very beautiful movie and despite what everyone says, it's actually very faithful to the theme of the book (which is reversed satanism, subversion of "do what thou willst" from a hedonistic anarchistic command to a highly spiritual responsibility of your soul), unlike the first film which took the command at face value to make a hedonistic escape fantasy film

it gets a bit silly sometimes but nothing really immersion breaking
