I was in a shitty place emotionally at the time and the Return kept me centered in a weird way. This episode in particular. Also I love Nine Inch Nails and the 40s/50s aesthetic so I'm biased.
Soon I'll come around
Lost and never found
Waiting for my words
Seen but never heard
Buried underground
But I'll keep coming
Yeah I'll keep coming
Yeah I'll keep coming
Yeah I'll keep coming
I got filtered by the sound mixing more than anything else. Also unsure why Lynch decided to re-make Inland Empire but make it worse. Calling it season 3 of the television show he worked on previously seems to have been a financial decision.
I was filtered by The Return in general, but Part 8 is the one episode that stood out to me as something excellent and original.
Not to say I didn't "enjoy" the rest, it was just bizarre and oddly paced. I know le subversion of expectations was intentional but still. I don't regret watching it, but I also don't really know what to think of it.
the editing in this episode was weird, it made it feel less like we were going inside the explosion and more like a series of graphical renders that we poorly cut between.
I'm also not a fan of Laura being some cosmic being sent down by The Fireman, meaning her whole life was just predetermined from the beginning. I'm not gonna say I don't get the hype for the episode, because I do, but it also feels overrated at the same time. The Woodsman scene is excellent though.
There really is no interesting discourse around this episode. Everyone just full stop loves it, I really never see anybody critique or say anything bad about it, its like "it's the most experimental part of The Return so we love it!" without putting much more thought into it beyond that as far as the greater implications of the lore. It's cool, but I also don't think it's all that special.
I like Part 3, 11, 16, and 18 way more than Part 8.
The final two episodes of the return are my favorites over 8. I feel everybody just accepts the ending scene and calls it a day, but the crossing over with Coop and Diane is full blown cinema
I love every single minute of Part 18. I love the tone of it, it feels so ominous and brooding the entire thing, Cooper's got no joy in him whatsoever, he's just doing the job, going through the motions, only when he sees Laura do you see some of that light in him.
>Cooper's got no joy in him whatsoever, he's just doing the job, going through the motions
I hate using the le meta point, but that's exactly what I felt was happening with the diner. It's Lynch saying "you want Twin Peaks (2017)? here you go moron" those final episodes go against everything nostalgia bait and into uncharted territory. I love it and can't imagine a better way to end the series
I'd like to mention Episode 4 as underrated, the breakfast sequence is special.
I agree, I like part 8 BUT it's not the best episode for me. There's a very special experimentation and Lynch's moving painting philosophy about say, episode 3 or the back to back ending, like Mr C's burning captures something about Lynch. The crossing or the dinner, it's all so good.
I feel like Lynch accomplished that with the entire season, not just part 8.
The entire season feels like something from a different planet than the rest of the television productions out there, it is completely unconcerned with the rules they all adhere to. It's easily the most interesting and best tv show out of the 2010s
Nah.
but I do struggle to come to terms with the fact this was the last time we'd see TP as everyone died off.
Now I just silently stew in my depression waiting for the news that Lynch is gone.
generic steampunk imagery and tripe complete with an unappealing fat amateur actress
ruined the mystique of the giant
really nothing you can do to defend the episode. Felt like a film project for first year drama majors. it was shit and anyone taking it seriously just is too worried about being said to have been LYNCHED
goofy ahh nuke

Such a great song. RIP to the singer.

So how much is Nolan stealing from this? Although the bomb explosion bit reminded me of Tree of Life
A lot. Even the trailer gives away his lynch swindling. Typical Nolan, always playing the oneupsmanship games with his films.
Wait, so incels and brainlets really are butthurt/filtered by Nolan kino? It's not just a meme?
Nolan has never made kino. He makes flicks for reddit midwits who think they're smart/deep.
Holy shit is this what morons actually believe? It must be so hard being you. You been taking your meds?
Why is Lynch so creative?
Frick off

No i'm immune to Lynching

it was just nice to see something different, something that's aim wasn't to please but to unease.

Part 8 may be the best thing he ever did after Mulholland Drive
>Le spooky nuke
Nothing can truly destroy aas well as a nuke as Black folk can
I was filtered by FWWM and first 3 episodes of S3, but not by this one.

kino
I loved the look of that little set.

this episode was shit just came off as something some steampunk lesbian at a goth themed flea market would find cool
nonsensical take
it's just le dark americana
it's a diamond dozen and has been overdone to hell
>it's just le dark americana
What is? The one part with the Woodsman? What about the rest of the episode
