You have to like the formula to get into it. I know the nature of this type of show is to eventually subvert the formula in different ways, but I didn't care for the formula enough to want to see it subverted.

Agreed. I dropped both shows the moment they decended into relationship drama.

I will say this - Regular Show's relationship drama felt way more out of place than Adventure Time's drama, but I still feel Finn was overall more embarrassing to watch than Mordecai.

AT has those elements across the show, but RS has them in them play out in the same order, the same way practically every episode.

I liked AT in the beginning more than RS in the beginning. It's the whole reason I fell off of watching RS while I kept up with AT even when it turned to shit. It was all momentum from my enjoyment of the early seasons. But knowing thoroughly how AT turned out, I imagine RS couldn't be worse. I believe people who say it turned out better. Still probably won't go back and watch it though. I do still remember the cringe.

Mordecai was a bigger simp but not really out of the norm for a dude in his mid-20s; he simply grew out of it. Finn on the other hand objectively peaked in his childhood, as he grew up he just became more and more of a a washed up weirdo.

No. Finn was going thru puberty and made some shitty decisions, he also went thru some traumatic shit. By the end of the show he's learned what he did wrong, grown more mature, and become a better person.

Mordecai actually tried to kill his childhood BFF for a chance to sniff Margarets ass so he is the Simp King.

The closest Finn has ever got to that level was accidentally getting Ice King killed to fulfill his weird fetish for teenage girls beating the shit outta old men. But he actually stopped Ice King from getting roasted. Which was his Arch-nemesis back then, even though it ruined his relationship with Flame Princess so I can respect him for that.

          >Well that time he rested his head on PBs lap then cried after was pretty pathetic
It makes sense because he didn't really get closure for his dream romance suddenly ending. PB and the writers just said "get over it pussy" which isn't even how it works for adults who are less emotional. In hindsight it's pretty fricked up how they handled that.

Romance means a lot more when you're a kid because it's new and you're not jaded. I've seen how boys Finns age had similar experiences with girls even my brothers. And we saw before this Finn was simping hard for her. Young love is special and often sticks with you for many years if you've experienced it. It's just really weird how they chose to write that whole situation because they got the reaction right but I don't understand why they bothered doing it in the first place. And this was just the start of a theme throughout the show where Finn isn't allowed to have relationships that are healthy or last. It's like the writers bringing in the worst of real life to seem cool or subvert expectations, possibly even from their own personal issues in life.

He couldn't have relationships that were healthy and lasted because he was still an immature kid. That changed near the end with huntress wizard, and because of those experiences. That's life, my friend.

                >He couldn't have relationships that were healthy and lasted because he was still an immature kid
That's cope because he never gets a long lasting healthy relationship even as an adult otherwise it would have been worth noting. He just waits to die and join his brother. His relationships are ruined for outright stupid and nonsensical reasons. His relationship with flame princess, who was a rebound to start with, ended because he suddenly had a fetish for seeing flame princess beat ice kings ass. That's not life that's just moronic. Stop making excuses for what's just blatantly bad writing.

It's not lazy. It would actually be easier to do a spinoff of Finn's adult life than come up with whole new characters/storylines a la distant lands and fionna and cake.

                >It's not lazy

Same guy here. Another thing is they're going to be busy with the new Fiona show and adventure time has already been dragging on for a long time now. You choose to have a special where the characters get closure to basically show nothing of Finns adult life and have him and Jake be reincarnated as nobodies, which I still can't get over. It's so fricking lame.

The idea first came up when Marceline's voice actress said the two characters used to date at a panel. She then said on Twitter she made it up and people got upset. The fan response at the panel was immensely positive.

Anyone else see PB as emotionally manipulative and borderline abusive towards Finn? She wants this professional (subservient) relationship with him while also keeping the coals of his romance for her lit, in Burning Low and then again when she pretends to be his dad so he quickly gets over his revenge thing. All to serve her needs and wants (masked by her need to “protect her people”).

Close Enough has a better large main cast than RS, they're not as one note as Muscle Man, High Five Ghost etc even though some of the plots are eh, and Apple & Onion has the better wacky wagie duo adventures, RS gets way too formulaic and isn't as funny when you get older.

    >Executive producer Adam Muto told TVLine that the relationship “evolved over time,” pointing to certain individuals on the team who helped the pairing develop — particularly writer/storyboarder Rebecca Sugar, who went on to create Steven Universe. Fans latched onto the relationship, especially after actress Olivia Olsen tweeted that creator Pendleton Ward told her Marceline and Bubblegum were exes. The worst parts of regular show were some of the relationship episodes that were literally cringe inducing, the one that comes to mind the most is the friendzone.

The worst parts of adventure time were literal fricking seasons of nothing, and constantly humiliating finn, and turning an interesting and fun premise into a melodramatic slog

    Regular show holds up better.

Regular show held up better also because that was the point, the show was about "20 something frickups and their misadventures" so that shit made sense.

i find myself wanting more regular show, and never thinking twice about adventure time.
things like regular show, anyway, like simon hanselmanns stuff is thematically similar IMO, just way more adult and comics instead of cartoons

          >i find myself wanting more regular show, and never thinking twice about adventure time.
I think the problem might be partially thanks to the fact that unlike Regular Show Adventure Time lost it's path (a show about a kid and his brother going on fun adventures) and became angsty trash. Regular Show was always like that so such issues didn't really change anything since it was always like that.
Also have you tried Close Enough, it's by the same guy who did regular show and is basically just a slightly more down to earth regular show with 30 year old frick ups instead of 20 year old frick ups.

I havent, i saw a few clips and the only one i found funny was JG's self insert showing a doodle of the characters from regular show and it playing the noise from the OP

AT got worse over time and became incomprehensible to a lot of viewers. Regular Show had some lulls but was pretty consistent throughout and ended a high note.

AT had lower lows and lower highs.

AT had a better world, better pacing, even better characters, but somehow a worse show. Explain.

Because the most vocal portion of its audience were sexually frustrated man children who wanted to frick vicariously through Finn.
Also scheduling fricked up the release of the final seasons. I blame Cartoon Network and Teen Titans Go for that

One had a showrunner that managed it through the end, one had a showrunner displaced by his own incompetent staff

      >obnoxiously cut off as an "ending" for half of your episodes so you don't have to write endings so you can just pull unfinished plot threads out of your ass
      >anything you don't touch is just "le mystery" for loregays to mentally jerk off about
      >better pacing

It’s funny how zoomers remember RS fondly but don’t really care about AT

Probably because Regular Show had a fairly consistent schedule by CN standards, while Adventure Time was all over the place by Season 5.

Penn left and subhumans like Sugar took the reins, they hated the idea of the show being about straight white kid going on adventures and saving princesses.

Sugar left before that all started too for SU. In fact, she came up with Flame Princess. Muto is the one people were assmad about.

I wouldn't say they don't care about AT, just that when they say "I like AT" they mean they like the first 4ish season

Most of them were probably too young to remember it

Even ignoring all that, simping for a israeliteess that shamelessly drew gay Ed Edd n Eddy pedo porn isn't really what I would consider a good thing. Especially since she is a big figure in the children's cartoon industry.
