Did you watch the best movie of the decade so far, anon? And probably the best film ever made by a woman?

Was in my top 5 from last year but the best of the decade so far is comfortably Beau Is Afraid
Beau is Afraid was meh. Overlong, one-note, bordering on pretentious (not a word I use lightly) or at least clumsy. It's like a caricature of Charlie Kaufman at his worst. Synecdoche New York but an hour longer and with all the subtlety of Django Unchained or Inglorious Basterds.
The only thing it filtered out was the pseuds that thought it was good. It's as deep as a puddle
Legitimately too neurotic to relate to.
God I related completely. I’m not gonna make it dudes.
Are you israeli? Common israeli problem to be unable to come to terms with the fact that you're a sorry sack of meat the same as the rest of us
Yes. Inb4 pedo schizo shits up thread.
when i first saw this movie i had no idea what to expect, and i thought it would be a movie about a dad who fantasize about his daughter and the movie would explore him being tormented and then how the girl would realize slowly whats happening
something like that (and its nothing like that)
one of the best movie ive seen in a good while
good call
>aaaaaah my wife left me I'm so lonely I need SEX SEX SEX oh no I haven't had sex for so long I'm going to kill myself
What's the message of the movie again?
>What's the message of the ADVERTISEMENT again?
Advertising smoking and promoting child abuse.
>WAAAAAHHHH HOW COULD SOMEONE NOT HATE LITTLE GIRLS
have a nice day. Hating little girls like you do is the insanity here. Liking little girls and being against them being abused is not autistic, it's just right.
>Advertising smoking
There's less than 2 minutes of smoking shown in this film, I can find you thousands of others with way more smoke screentime with kids in it too.
You've been at this for years, holy frick. How haven't you killed yourself yet?
I think you're reading a lot into that because none of it is in the movie
>le barneygay but autistic about smoking near children xD
how original
yes i did and i agree it’s a masterpiece despite what that insane anon is on about elsewhere in this thread
>was that a depressed man slow motion dancing to...QUEEN!?!? OMG THIS EVERYTHING
i thought it was vanilla ice
>pedo film for pedos
whyd u delete your other post?
That was my first post in the thread. Are you a schizo or something?
Why do you think it's a pedo film? Have you watched it?
im a chud but i can usually watch something pozzed and still appreciate whatever greater value it has or was trying to portray regardless, that doesnt mean i go out of my way to watch pozzed media however.
i watched this because of the thread the other day and it was just alright. while it doesnt have any pozzed messaging so to speak, i agree with the people saying that it was shallow. i wouldnt mind not having watched it.
what'd you think the point of the movie was, the message?
>im a chud
you're worse than he is
some of that little girls acting was so bad I almost had to shut it off, the dialogue too
Name one scene where her acting is bad, I don't buy it
Murina (2021) was a better movie than Aftersun and that wasn't even so great either.
that movie sucked besides her bathing suit
Bathing suit you say?
yeah nice swim scenes but the actual story and acting sucked but worth watching for that reason probably
The one flaw of this movie is the shallow focus
Having clicked into this thread knowing nothing about this film you have successfully steered me clear. I fricking hate shallow focus, especially when combined with handheld shooting. Blue Is The Warmest Color, for all its other glaring flaws, was nearly unwatchable due to that. Aside from screaming "2010's film student with a DSLR", it's just ugly and nauseating. Give me a nice deep focus every time.
The loss is yours my friend, the cinematography is great and when shallow focus is used, it's used on close, personal, intimate shots. It's not used indiscriminately
The last segment is pretty kino, if nothing else.
I thought the end was dreadful but the rest great
I thought it was sort of like a stream, rather than a river. The depth was not great, it was a low depth
>probably the best film ever made by a woman?
You're not selling it very well,
Can't think of any that could possibly be better
monster (2003)
american psycho
Lost in Translation is pretty good but I think Aftersun is better.
the best film by a woman is still the cyberpunk cult classic Strange Days.
Wtf is strange days?
a cyberpunk cult classic.
Movie was the most overrated of 2o23.
It's like they got a budget to shoot at a resort so they could all have a nice holiday.
'Acting' consists of staring into a mirror, then smashcuts of a nightclub.
The daughter was the only good actor, but even then the 'script' if you could call it that, failed her as well. The scenes of her grown up added absolutely zero to the story.
Give me a proper movie, thanks.
>The scenes of her grown up added absolutely zero to the story
Now that's just horse shit, it provides the whole context of the story.
>Movie was the most overrated of 2o23
No way. Especially cause it was released in 2022
Uhh it's called art sweaty
Ending ruins it
What didn't you like about it?
>Did you watch the best movie of the decade so far, anon?
Name a better one, it's slim pickings
first time a sentimental movie got me in probably 10 years
Way better than that movie Past Lives which every critic is salivating over
Damn, that's a bummer. I was looking forward to watching it. It wasn't very good?
It was good but not spectacular, certainly not a movie that sticks with me after watching. Aftersun hits hard though
WAIT
TALK ABOUT AFTERSUN
Best films of the 2020s by women so far are Titane & Showing Up.
Those were both awful, especially Titane. Stuck in shock value land
Petite Mamon
the scene where the daughter realizes that the dad is buying shit he can't afford on credit, pure kino. a simple scene but a effective one into the characters mind.
I missed that, where did she realize it? I know that she did because she brings it up to him after she sings, but where did she realize?
