The show has been shit since S1. It was always badly written and was saved by acting/directing. With worse actors and shoddy directing only morons would have still liked it and the midwits wouldn't have latched on.

I disagree. Much of the dialogue between Rust and Marty is overwritten and pretentious. It feels like pizza was reading wikipedia articles for nihilism while writing it. Instead of having Rust lay out his worldview in a pretentious manifesto why not show us through his behavior and let us make that determination ourselves?

Episode 2 was a 5 or 6 out of 10 and the first was a 3 or a 4. It shouldn't have the True Detective name attached to it but it still has more potential than most of the shit being pushed out right now.
