I agree with him tbh. Him dying to freiza and staying dead would have been kino, honestly it's a pretty asspull that everyone is fine with him living on earth in the android saga
This. Let it be known that one of his last acts was admitting he didn't like Vegeta, the character most symbolic of the lack of these things

EVERYTHING after Z has been complete and utter shit. So honestly if it keeps getting worse it might cross the "so bad it's good" threshold

No. Magaka are well known for having fricked up schedules, it has changed in recent years but a lot of famous mangaka have all sorts of ailment. >Oda >Due to his rigorous work schedule, Oda lives apart from his wife and daughters, receiving visits from them roughly once per week. He usually visits their home during holiday breaks; an opulent mansion located in Nerima (練馬区, Nerima-ku), a neighborhood in the metropolitan area of Tokyo where his wife and daughters reside. Oda bought this house in 2006, after the birth of his eldest daughter. Oda, Inaba and their daughters go on vacation abroad approximately once a year.[33]

Frick this one stings. Dragon Ball was the first anime I ever watched at age 5. It was my favorite thing in the entire world growing up. All I wanted to do was be strong like Goku and Gohan and go on adventures with my friends. I still remember focusing as hard as I could in my room, hoping I could finally blast of a kamehameha. Rest well Toriyama.
They have a ridiculous work schedule. I remember someone posted Miura's weekly work program, and it was insane. Every day is a work day, and some days, he had to make it with only 2 hours of sleep.

Some people like mashima seems to have it easy though, mostly because he recycles everything.
Mashima is an extremely based man.
He draws huge anime breasts, amazing thighs, big asses, great feet for footgays; has like 3 ongoing mangas, learning english, making his own fan rpg game and sometime ago, it had his own YT channel.
I mean, he's great but it's just too much work too.
Well seemed like there was pretty sizable gap between him working on Dragon Ball stuff after Z, in the 2000's and early 2010's seems like the animators from Z (of maybe other artists, I don't actually know) did the random promotional shit, and he got to do shit he liked, but no one else (at least in the west) gave a shit about, just doing it out of actual passion/fun, like Sand Land, and Nekomajin
I mean he hasn't drawn anything for years. The work he's been doing with Toei and shit hasn't been that demanding. Probably spent a lot of time taking it easy.

Damn, probably the first tv show I ever really got into as a kid. It felt more mature than pokemon/digimon but still lighthearted and silly. I remember learning how to draw goku and that's all I'd draw on all my schoolbooks from age 8-11. RIP.
>chainsaw
that's fotm shit, though. We're talking about something longstanding, it can go on endlessly and there's a huge cult following that defines a person's virtual entire relationship with anime itself.
Chainsaw might've been well animated (some say) but its not on the same level at all.
Yeah I was joking when I said that, but it's a hell of a lot better than Super.

I beg differ, there is not a single redeeming feature about Boruto, if anything Boruto has destroyed the good things left in Naruto. Super on the other hand, looks awful but at least it was fun and it didn't shit on old characters to make the new ones shine. It's been the opposite, old characters like 17 and Freezer got the spotlight.

I am a manga reader, not an anime watcher, so we are perhaps comparing apples and oranges. I understand Boruto is full of slice of life filler and even had a time travel arc. The manga is far from perfect, but it does manage to coherently continue Naruto.
>if anything Boruto has destroyed the good things left in Naruto
I may agree with this, depending on what you mean. Realizing that Naruto and Sasuke failed in their missions even though they resolved their character arcs is a tough pill to swallow.
To me, Super seems less like a sequel to DB and more like a disjointed series of vignettes. I'm not complaining, though. I still read it every month.

>I am a manga reader, not an anime watcher, so we are perhaps comparing apples and oranges.
Anon, I don't watch anime any more, I used to read the manga so that's why I'm telling you there's not a single redeeming feature about Boruto, I simply do not understand how anyone can be ok or even enjoy when a manga shits on old characters (Look how they massacred Sasuke), and don't get me started with the power scaling in Boruto and the alien gods and the androids, it's worst than Dragon Ball where only Goku and Vegeta had a chance when facing an enemy. On the other hand, Super gave old character a time to shine like 17, Freezer, and even Roshi and improved some characters like Broly. Say what you will about Super, but it is way better and more enjoyable than Boruto.

How did you expect Sasuke to be? He spent all of Shippuden as a terrorist. Or do you mean his abysmal stamina? Otherwise I would agree that Boruto's neglect of the original cast is a major shortcoming. I think it has managed the power creep pretty well, all things considered. It didn't get to the point that only the MCs are relevant until pretty late into NNG.
>worst than Dragon Ball where only Goku and Vegeta had a chance when facing an enemy
Boruto killed Momoshiki with a rasengan.

Everybody is nerfed, Sasuke, Naruto, Shikamaru (he's an idiot now) and the only ones strong enough to fight are Boruto and Kawaki, it's exactly the same thing like Goku and Vegeta, and you're telling me Boruto is better than Super? Super gave us the Tournament of Power where everybody had chance to shine, Super gave us a movie where Gohan and Piccolo got the spotlight, what has Boruto given us? Nothing but shitting on old characters. And I'm not even saying Super is good, just that is better compared to Boruto wihich is pure slop.

What Boruto has over Super is a plot. I'm not going to claim it's a great plot, but it directly continues both Naruto's story and themes. There's a linear story with continuity, and new developments are rational and believable in context. Old characters are going through hard times because Boruto is telling an extremely bleak story with extremely high stakes.
Super, on the other hand, has not managed to string a story together. Like I said previously, it is like a series of vignettes. It has trained the audience to have no expectations of real stakes or impact going forward. After each arc, everything goes right back to normal with the exception of new hair and skin colors.
Now, all that works for Dragon Ball in my opinion. It's going for striking a balance between the tones of the original DB and Z. It reads like a love letter or homage to the franchise. It is entertaining if you accept it for what it is. However, its lackluster story makes for a less compelling read than Boruto. In Super, I can pretty accurately guess how things will turn out. With Boruto, I really don't know. I think Jura might actually break into the Daikokuten dimension and eat Naruto. In Super, there's going to be a big, long fight, and then everything will go back to normal.

And what's an ok story with shitty characters? Fun or interesting characters can carry a show with a shitty story or with no story at all, but an ok story cannot carry show with shitty characters. What fun, charismatic or interesting characters does Boruto have to keep you hooked? Or are just curious about which old character is going to die? Are you waiting for Naruto/Sasuke to die or for Boruto to save the day?
Anonymous
Well, what I am waiting on is the series endgame. I'm expecting Shibai to show up and shake things up in a big way. I'm also looking forward to how Boruto and Kawaki's relationship is going to develop. And for whatever secret power Himawari has to be revelaed. And for Sarada to become battle relevant again (which she will).
I don't think Boruto's characters are shitty. I think they're all well conceived but flawed in their execution. Well, except Bort. He has had plenty of development. I think the character writing issues can be largely attributed to the constraints of limited chapters and a monthly release schedule. They just don't have enough room to breathe, and that's also why we haven't seen enough of old characters.
I understand your criticism because nothing will make me drop a piece of media like hating all the characters. I think I have an atypical view of this series though because I don't hate Sakura or Kaguya either.

>It reads like a love letter or homage to the franchise
Super is a bastardization of everything that came before. Love letter/homage my ass. Frick Toriyama for that crap.
Dragon Ball isn't going anywhere. Now that Toriyama isn't alive to gatekeep it, Toei is going to loot it and churn out more dragonslop than ever before.
No, I don't think people do hate it. Sure, people complain about the quality, but that doesn't matter much when it comes to a franchise that prints money. Heroes is huge. The games are huge. There's an original anime coming out. Toriyama's death will only bring more attention and profit to Dragon Ball. It wouldn't surprise me if some of his other work starts getting animated.
Yeah the only part of the manga that managed to get me invested was the Moro arc, but now that the story is fricking finally moving forward, hopefully it will get interesting. Toyo's art has improved a ton, and Frieza is presumably getting ready to menace the universe again. My expectations are not high, but I'm reading it anyway.
Ah, so we're gonna get zombie Dragon Ball, to join the undead horde, along with The Simpsons, SpongeBob, and South Park. Except it'll be especially like the SpongeBob and Stephen Hillenburg case, where they wait for him to kick the bucket to do anything he explicitly asked not to do.
>Cinemaphile doesn't have a sticky >mods actually 404'd a thread about it
Why does this website's moderation feel so dead in the 2020s? Like it's just on autopilot.
The moderations only concern is suppressing non liberal political beliefs, they don't give a shit about the actual board topics so they think Toriyama is only dragon ball
Had a sweet t-shirt in middle school. it was the current super saiyans at the time, goku, trunks, gohan, and the other guy, all in gold flecked silhouette. google it sometimes to try and find the specific one
dragon balll gave birth to modern shonen shit like nartuo, bleach, one piece, ever since those ended or got old there hasnt really been an anime that carried the torch
He wrote that garbage, and now he's dead. He can't torture us and ruin the legacy of DB/DBZ with that moronic bullshit anymore. Thank God (I'm atheist btw)
Shit sucks. Dragon Ball unironically challenged my perception of pacing and what it means for the story. Goku spent like an entire year trying to kill Frieza while the dude repeatedly refused to die, then Trunks shows up and kills him in 5 minutes.
I'll never forget the memories I have of watching DBZ on Toonami during the Y2K era. I had great fun watching it, thank you for everything Toriyama-sensei, rest in peace sir.
japan is a police state with no freedom of press and speech so they just control everything and release things when they feel like its most convenient for them
Toriyama was a notorious procrastinator and would wait until the last possible moment to work on a chapter. He would draw an entire chapter over a weekend. Do that for 11 years and it will take a toll on you.

>It is too early.
>The hole is too big. Sadness washes over me when I think that I will never see him again.
>I have admired him so much since I was a child, so I remember the day he called me by name for the first time. On the way home from the day you used the word "friend" for me and Kishimoto, I remember being overjoyed with Kishimoto. I also remember the last conversation we had.
>I was one of those who took the baton from the days when reading manga made you a fool, and he also created an era when both adults and children could enjoy reading manga. He showed us the dream that manga can go worldwide. It was like watching a hero going forward.
>For not only mangakas but also creators in various industries, the excitement and emotion of the time of Dragon Ball serialization must have taken root in their childhood.
>His existence is like a big tree.
>For the manga artists of our generation who stood on the same stage, Toriyama's works became more and more important to me as I got closer to the same stage. I even felt being scary. But I am just happy to see the aloof man himself again. Because we love him on a blood level.
>With respect and gratitude for the creative world he has left behind. I pray for his soulful rest in peace.
>May heaven be the joyous world he envisioned.

Damn, probably the first tv show I ever really got into as a kid. It felt more mature than pokemon/digimon but still lighthearted and silly. I remember learning how to draw goku and that's all I'd draw on all my schoolbooks from age 8-11. RIP.
Rest In Peace.

Next time on dragonball super: everyone is gay and subordinate to women now
Peaked at saiyan saga
who will the torch of shonenshit be passed to next? this is like if zelda in its entirety just suddenly stopped being a thing, what fills that hole
The guy from Kagurabachi, or the Chainsawman, anyway Oda is still the king for now
>chainsaw
that's fotm shit, though. We're talking about something longstanding, it can go on endlessly and there's a huge cult following that defines a person's virtual entire relationship with anime itself.
Chainsaw might've been well animated (some say) but its not on the same level at all.
We don't have anything like that anymore aside from OP.
We have Boruto
Nobody cares about Boruto, i 100% believe people read it to shit on it
I'm reading on Mangaplus and they had legit cool mangas releasing for a few weaks just to axe them
>mangaplus
is this the new "it" place for manga? do they let people upload their own shit or wuh
And it's pure slop.
Frick Toriyama for that crap.
heh... guess its time for me to release my one shot.
>CSM
firepunch was his only good/fun work
One piece is most successful manga of all time. Dragonball has been irrelevant for decades. No one gave a shit about super
I wouldn't necessarily say it replaces dbz, its been up there with it this entire time along with naruto and bleach.
what's the next* dbz?
Dragon Ball isn't going anywhere. Now that Toriyama isn't alive to gatekeep it, Toei is going to loot it and churn out more dragonslop than ever before.
they've been churning out side story shit and people hate it. This is the end, for real this time.
I hate Super because it sucks. The movies were great thoughever.
And yes, the two Super movies are indeed kino.
The DBS manga is basically a zombie already
All good things should die. Super is shit. Broly was the only good thing to come out of the db revivial
Shonen is irredeemable now. It's all moeshit porn for emasculated cretins.
>Shonen is irredeemable now.
Demon Slayer shits all over Zombie One Piece and Zombie Dragon Ball
There's going to be some Bleach news announced this month so we may finally be getting the Hell arc.

Why does this website's moderation feel so dead in the 2020s? Like it's just on autopilot.
The troony mod meme isn't actually a meme
trannies think dbz is toxic
The moderations only concern is suppressing non liberal political beliefs, they don't give a shit about the actual board topics so they think Toriyama is only dragon ball

goku or goten presumably
It's goku moron
goten doesn't carry the nyoi bo

Insanely soulful artstyle.

Was Dragon Ball Super that bad that he died watching that show?
He wrote that garbage, and now he's dead. He can't torture us and ruin the legacy of DB/DBZ with that moronic bullshit anymore. Thank God (I'm atheist btw)

Who are the guys talking to Mizuki supposed to be? One is clearly Osamu Tezuka, but I don’t recognize the other one.
Never mind, I missed the title like a moron. Pretend it’s because my eyes were full of tears for Toriyama-sensei.

Shit sucks. Dragon Ball unironically challenged my perception of pacing and what it means for the story. Goku spent like an entire year trying to kill Frieza while the dude repeatedly refused to die, then Trunks shows up and kills him in 5 minutes.
Filipino males are in mourning! Sad day Filipino Bros.!! RIP

>March 1st
Why'd this shit take so long it's already the 8th
To stop hordes of people from trying to go to his funeral or bother his family when they are mourning, I imagine.
Whenever a famous person dies, they usually give the family a few days to grief before publicly announcing the passing
japan is a police state with no freedom of press and speech so they just control everything and release things when they feel like its most convenient for them
because anon
they wanted to release the news on 3/8 since hes dead 38 years after the release of Dragonball

Heresy
Why does Goku have a ballsack on his shirt?
Toriyama was a notorious procrastinator and would wait until the last possible moment to work on a chapter. He would draw an entire chapter over a weekend. Do that for 11 years and it will take a toll on you.

Completely tragic, gone too soon to finish his earthly works
Why are the japanese so fragile?

Sounds like Toriyama died from head trauma.
Poetic due to Goku suffering a head injury being the root of everything.
