Alien (1979)

A great movie, but I still for the love of me can't figure out wtf happened in the scene when Ash attacks Ripley. First, out of the blue she starts bleeding, and then we see Ash leaking out his android fluid. Then he just starts acting really strange, and we never know if his attack on Ripley was caused by some kind of malfunction, or not.

The bleeding came from a scene that was
cut out from the movie. The acting strange
just came from needing it to happen to
propel the story forward, I think.

He was sperging out because his orders to protect the lifeform above all else was fricking with his inherent programming to protect the crew

Why would shoving a magazine down someone's throat be an efficient way to kill them?

That was my thought as well

Could it be some weird medical loophole?
        >initiate cpr/anti-choking procedures
but twisting it around instead? I can't think of any reason why though I'm just thinking of some comedy film where some guy needs cpr and the guy doesn't want to kiss him so he rolls up a magazine and blows through that instead. It might've been the Bean movie.

First, out of the blue she starts bleeding, and then we see Ash leaking out his android fluid. Then he just starts acting really strange, and we never know if his attack on Ripley was caused by some kind of malfunction, or not.

He actually starts twitching out right after Ripley ATTACKS HIM FIRST and shoves him against a wall. It's quite possible that that shook something loose in his hard drive or something. Okay, the cat's outta the bag, gotta carry out Special Order.

Also there's some clear sexual frustration in the scene. When Ash throws her over in the nook with all the girly magazine pictures, he rolls up a magazine-a replacement phallus-and uses it in a strange attempt to orally rape Ripley, but this is cut short. Ridley speculated that the Ash character may be sexually frustrated because for whatever reason he can't have or even convincingly simulate coitus. He may have been smooth down there, but that would be a bad design flaw because they're stripped down to their undies in hypersleep so the odds that someone might catch a glimpse (and therefore figure out that he's an android) are very high.

I also like to believe that when Ash says "there's a reasonable explanation", he's being truthful and actually wants to tell Ripley what's going on. Maybe humans have gained a more sophisticated understanding of Predators, Engineers or some other hostile alien, and they really do need the aliens as a bioweapon (or at least think they need them) because humans need all the help they can get for self-defense. But Ripley understandably rejects him so all he has left is to attack and discourage the survivors.

The A2s always were a bit twitchy

I jist got back from the 45th anniversary theatrical re-issue. I wondered about this as well.

As an aside, still holds up very well. They don't make them like that anymore

Re-release was in the box office top 10 this week. 45 years and still can't stop winning.

I was slightly considering it (it's my favorite film) but I've seen both versions in the theater at least two or three times. I've seen it, I've been. Happy that others are enjoying it. Still have my Halloween ticket stub from 2003.

I just don't feel the need to see a digital projection in a theater when I already own the 4k blu ray and I have a big 4k TV and a 5.1 sound system.

I saw Aliens on 35 mm last october, that was a great experience. I'd do the same for Alien if that was an option

I wish they'd release Alien 3 in theaters again but I know it's never going to happen. It's the only Alien movie I've never seen on the big screen.

Sorry man I try to like it everytime I watch it but it’s just shit. The alien looks cool, Ripley is cool, the idea sounds good on paper but it falls flat. You think they’d at least design the factory area they’re in to look more like Gigers aesthetic but the place is just bland. I feel like I’m in a 50s steel mill, not a futuristic factory planet. Yeah sure there’s that one scene where she mistakes the pipe for the alien head but that should’ve been the entire movie

Not what I said. I’m saying that mechanical design that Giger is known for is what the factory should be resembled. Not that it should’ve been fricking terraformed by the xenomorph dickhead, what we get is a bland boring environment to look at

From what I understand, when she is with Mother and he enters the room, she throws him into the wall which may have cause a cut on his head. The nosebleed I thought was just some sort of visual storytelling to show how paranoid and terrified she was. People get nosebleeds for random reason including stressful situations
