Nah.
Alien is horror, Aliens is action sci-fi. Not really comparable.
Alien is cheap action sci fi, aliens is a masterpiece.
The android was the main threat in alien and she walks with a flamethrower for 40 minutes
Imagine if Cameron made Jawss instead.
You're right. Aliens is FAR scarier horror than Alien.
They are both amazing.
>Aliens is about motherhood. Alien is essentially a haunted house in space. It's a very simply slasher, if you think about it.
Don't care for the marines and at this point we know what the aliens are, and that weakens the movie somewhat. It's still better than all the other Alien films that followed.
Alien 3>Alien
video game movie.
making the Xeons easily killable with 2 bullets is fricktarded, they arent even remotely threatening in this movie.
They're both very different films.
you'd think the facility would have melted into the planet crust with all those dead aliens!
Ripley in Alien
>A simple warrant Officer, has no military experience and survives on pure luck and just about outwits a single Xenomorph.
Ripley in Aliens
>An ass kicking assault weapon wielding bad-ass, she outperforms Elite military commandos while carrying a kid in one hand and a flamethrower in the other and slaughters 10+ Xenomorphs and the Queen.
Alien is realistic. Aliens is a good movie but its a terrible sequel. how did Ripley become Special Forces just by sleeping?
It's not, but good attempt
childhood is preferring Aliens
adulthood is realizing Alien is the better movie
Good movie but fricks up the lore. How are xenos a "weapon" if they are just big bugs with a queen that lays eggs.
>sequel is better so you shouldn’t watch the first movie it ties in with
How about you suck my ass
No fricking way dude.
Alien is better. Rating Aliens over Alien is a Reddit opinion.
James Cameron is quickly becoming one of my least favorite popular directors.
I enjoyed Aliens as a kid, but it just makes the alien threat so mundane and trivial. Pulse rifles rip them to shreds, smart guns rip them to shreds, there's hordes of them, they act like animals...
Part of what made Alien interesting to me was an undercurrent implication that the alien is intelligent, and you really don't get that sense from Aliens with them re-written into being like an ant-hive.
A part of me can appreciate Aliens as a sci-fi macho action movie, but even on that level it's outclassed by Predator in every way.
I don't know how angry I should feel at James Cameron or if I should be angrier at the studio execs who were pushing for the film to be made: but Aliens effectively neutered the potential for the franchise to ever be truly scary again. Ridley Scott has made good efforts, I appreciate the c-section scene in Prometheus, and the backburster/David being unhinged are good, but neither of those movies are anywhere near the level of the first one, and it's all thanks to Aliens ruining the series.
He unironically panders to the lowest commin denominator, I know you have to be one hell of a genius to be loved by millions and establish yourself as a recognizable author for the masses, but his entire filmo is literally dumb, unchallenging fluff.
>Terminator 1 is nothing more than a dumb but well executed B-movie from its time, down to the “love” scene and the schlocky Mexican send-off ending
>Aliens unironically (and permanently) fricked up the franchise, even though the effects and editing are fantastic
>The Abyss is forgettable at best, saccharine at worst (LOVE WILL SOLVE US FROM ANNIHILIATION TEE HEE) despite the crazy production design and proto-CGI
>Terminator 2 is outstanding but the themes come across as hypocritical in this day and age (mostly due to Cameron’s abuse of AI for remastering his movies and CG backgrounds)
>True Lies is the best movie on the planet if you’re 13 years old, strikes a weird note due to its content…plus Arnie sucks big time in this one, Tom Arnold is legit underrated here (he was great in Jingle All The Way tho)
>Titanic is a dime-a-dozen melodrama that reeks of m’lady chivalry, Cameron wishes he was David Lean
>the Avatar movies make up a complete fricking nightmare of a franchise, I don’t understand the hype and never will
>Pulse rifles rip them to shreds, smart guns rip them to shreds, there's hordes of them, they act like animals.
There's nothing in Alien that indicates this to be wrong
There's nothing that makes it interesting to watch.
right? the alien in the first movie was trivially weak, it got pierced and disabled by a puny harpoon gun. The only reason they didn't easily kill it was because they were too concerned about the acid blood fricking up the ship and therefore them not getting paid or having some legal action taken against them by the company. Put them instead back on LV-426 and the alien was mincemeat. But for some reason, dorks want to act like the original alien was some invincible god being.
Directors cut watcher spotted. I've been saying it for years that's the onlyvreason this is even a debate. A bunch of absolute plebs watched the directors cut.
Both cuts are shit.
I've always loved Aliens. One of my favorite films because muh space muhreens has always been neato as frick to me and my past childhood. That being said, I think that Alien is objectively the better film.
Does Alien even have better production design? That's the only thing it has a chance at.
Alien=Aliens
Cameron spread his budget really thin and it shows.
