>Aliens
>Ripley finds out her daughter got old and died while she was sleeping in space
It's a 2 minute scene and adds a lot to Ripley and her motivations. Its literally the best scene in the film and it gets cut

>kill off a child and the marine guy and them make a dogshit prison planet movie
What were *they* thinking?
Just lazy writing.
Alien 3 has an amazing core, an artgay movie about the nature of sin and redemption through horrific sacrifice. also Punished Ripley. Could have been amazing. Elevated horror kino. Shame about how it turned out.
the Assembly Cut kinda saves that vision of the movie, it's still not how the whole thing should've been but its so much better than the original cut
that was just scheduling issues and previous actors not wanting to return, they actually had a decent script but then sigourney wanted to return and it fricked with their plans which were already fricked from the start from them not wanting to star in the film
What was the decent script they originally had before weaver wanted to return?

full script if you want something to read
>Moloch Island
Newt was a shit actress and Biehn is a greedy frick. For what it is, A3 is a good movie
I have rarely been impressed by child actors, but how Cameron managed to get what he did out of that kid is fricking impressive. The only issue I had with the kid is the screaming isn't particularly convincing, but I consider it passable all things considered, (another good reason to cut the scene where her family finds the first alien though).
Did it invent the space prison genre? Pitch Black is cool.
Script writers and 'doctors' rarely EVER write with a marketer's sense of foresight, even when told that they're writing for franchise. Ideally these people would have the mental acuity to understand that you have to other very well liked characters that could continue the franchise in different ways when the initial lead gets tired, but no.
The job is also to not increase the cost of the film. They didn't want to pay another returning actor and tried to use Michael Biehn's likeness without his permission too. This was right around the time Crispin Glover tried to sue Universal over his image, but settled out of court. Eventually the studio paid Biehn for use of his image, but they were prepared to film much more without his permission and thus not need to pay him.
Script doctoring is not about improving a movie, it's about what assets does the movie have and how can it be cleaned up with minimal extra cost.
at this point they should have gone with the wooden space station angle, at least it's an interesting, albeit moronic idea
"these idiots will pay for anything, just get the product out"
otherwise known as the Atari strategy
what kind of people were running Atari in the 80's?
some things never change.
you can probably guess
le subversion and having a nuclear family is a no-no for bugman israelite writers who were hired to do 3. People going through mental hoops to convince themselves it's not shit is amusing.
>Alien
>great movie, 10/10
>"let's make an action sequel with a dumb kid"
What was Cameron thinking?
It also helps to explain exactly WHY Ripley is so pissed off during the inquest. She doesn't give a shit about this crap, she lost her daughter because the company was happy to waste her if only they can get an alien. So she carries that Frick You energy into the meeting room. Insult added to injury.
There are lots of movies with a stupid and ill-advised kid character. Aliens is not one of them. She behaves appropriately for a traumatized child, isn't a spoiled brat, just snaps once or twice before calming down (again, perfectly reasonable given what she's been through) and as the OP rightly points out, the whole mom/surrogate daughter element is central to the story. Sigourney was absolutely right to be disappointed that this element was cut for theatrical, they would have done better to cut two minutes of action/fighting someplace else.
Didn't even need to cut two minutes from elsewhere. Two minutes is nothing.
Incidentally I watched Aliens for the first time in years on Disney Plus and was disappointed that it wasn't the Special Edition which should be the standard version to carry these days. In hindsight I should have just dug out my DVD even though it wouldn't be HD. I would usually have just torrented but I can't since my laptop died.
Its just what he does every time he makes a sequel
>Titanic 2
>What was Cameron thinking?
kiri's pubes
>kiri's pubes
aliens was the key to all of this
Why don’t you put her in charge??
I really don't understand why so many people say that Aliens is the better movie. Alien is the platonic ideal scifi horror film whereas Aliens is a dumb Demolition Man-tier action movie with some jump scares.
Same thing with The Terminator.
T2 is at least a visual spectacle, even if the original is a far more sensible movie. Aliens is just kind of mediocre and beloved only by midwits.
Aliens is an excellent popcorn and soda movie to make you feel good.
It's fun.
Aliens bad. Lady who fought aliens before gets another chance to smash them. She smashes them, and saves a kid.
That's it. That is the story.
No one is judging enjoyers of this movie on some moron level standards understood only by some homosexual frickwad that has never seen a vegana in real life.
The whole argument about whether Alien or Aliens is better boils down to moronic homosexuals arguing moronic shit.
Alien is a better suspense horror.
Aliens is a better action horror.
Fricking grow up.
No, I disagree. Cameron's best era, back to back KINO with Terminator and Aliens. I am in the "Terminator should only be one movie" camp and slightly prefer Aliens over Alien. It was one of the greatest sequels of cinema. If you were shook by Alien, you embraced Aliens. But tastes are subjective my friend.
What is pacing
>It's a 2 minute scene and adds a lot to Ripley and her motivations. Its literally the best scene in the film and it gets cut
>WHAT WAS JAMES THINKINNNGGGG
Would have added a lot of motivation as to why she tries to save Newt. Should have kept it in
Ripley didn't need the additional motivation, though. She and Newt formed a natural bond from their shared experience in the colony. She already had all the motivation she needed to rescue Newt.
also dead daughter at the start is too deep, it sets the movie on a dark path that it wouldn't have delivered on properly. it's not as miserabilist as the other 3, cameron can't do that type of movie
>also dead daughter at the start is too deep, it sets the movie on a dark path that it wouldn't have delivered on properly. it's not as miserabilist as the other 3, cameron can't do that type of movie
Yeah maybe you're right. Maybe not her daughter aging/dying, maybe her niece instead. That way it still punches home a maternal element but not as much as actual mother.
What's some good Alien EU stuff? Books or whatever that explore other planets or alien races
Alien Isolation
Isolation is a great game but the lore is forgettable and doesn't expand the universe worth a shit. It barely even tries; it's a contrived scenario so they can redo Alien without it being Alien.
No, you couldn't be more wrong. It's literally THE sequel that should have been made in the first place. Of course Nostromo sent out a distress signal and their flight recorder into space, and the alien signal that brought them to LV-426 was still broadcasting, so of course another ship would come to investigate. They find the eggs too and take it to Sevastopol station. Amanda is looking for her mother, goes into the same line of work in the same part of the galaxy, of course that would eventually lead her to any information about what happened to Nostromo. Nothing of that is contrived. And it does expand the lore, with actual other space companies aside from just Weyland Yutani all the time. Isolation was awesome and the best alien story since the original and Aliens. Anyone who says the story was forgettable or barebones wasn't paying attention and probably a little chicken b***h who couldn't get past medical.
This anon gets it. are they going to make another one?
I thought the stuff about a failed corporation trying to compete with Weyland-Yutani and making discount androids was a mildly interesting addition.
I like the start where the main character is nakey. I wish there was a mirror. 🙁
the early dark horse comics stuff was generally pretty good.
the latest marvel comics with gigers alien queen design is pretty decent
Why are androids filled with fettuccine Alfredo ?
Isn't it their hydraulic fluids?
White Blood. The material that they "live" off of.
they're assembled in italy
The frick. Is everything a monopoly now? It used to be Dark Horse would peddle the dark, good shit
Aliens: Phalanx
The Rage War trilogy.
James Cameron understands dumb-dumb audiences better than you ever will. He's the master of lowbrow. The audience doesn't want to see some old granny that's supposed to be a daughter (confusing) that we're supposed to feel sad for without any build-up or even getting to know much about Ripley's character, especially considering some people won't have even watched the first film. And the audience doesn't need any extra motivation to understand why she cares for Newt. Protect the vulnerable little girl, it's fricking obvious.
Every single cut scene they re-added in the Director's Cut makes the movie worse. Theatrical forever.
setting up turrets scene was great you low iq low test moron
no it makes the aliens look dumb and it reuses exploding alien shots from the previous firefight. every deleted scene was deleted for good reason.
>no it makes the aliens look dumb
Nah, it makes YOU look dumb for getting filtered like a tard. How exactly do you expect aliens, who have never even been off the planet, to know and understand what a goddamn remote controlled machine gun turret is? But they figure it out after two battles, find a way around it, and still wreck the humans. That's pretty fricking smart. The humans use their advanced weaponry and still lose.
If they hadn't deleted the scene they probably would have filmed more instead of that reused footage
The original makes it more tense with them not having turrets or anything and seemingly being in a more hopeless situation.
Still the ammo runs out quick and they mention the ayylmao's will just find another way in, the scene is still good and ramps up the tension in it's own way, you now know next time they are fricked.
That scene really drags for me and I don't miss it, as cool as the guns are in concept, and definitely belong in vidya and that world. Ultimately it's obvious a bunch of actors are trying to ramp up tension just looking at a counter on a screen. It's not terrible, and would be fine in another film, but compared to the rest of the film it's gifrel.
The turret hallway watching the ammo counter go down was the most sweating balls moment in film.
Hey he's right! *throws pop corn everywhere like a rampaging gorilla*
Alien 3 should have been on Earth with aliens invading
Terminator 3 should have been the future war the ends with Kyle Reese going back in time to form a perfect circle
Predator 3 should have been just predators in a different time period (cowboys, knights, samurai etc)
Godfather 3 should have been the Stallone film "Oscar"
Star Wars Revenge of Jedi should have been on Emperor's throne world instead of another Death Star
Who would you cast for the movie?
Same cast. It'll be an animated miniseries.
Noomi Rapace
Danny McBride
Michael Fassbender
Charlize Theron
tom cruise
hayley atwell
pom klementieff
rebecca ferguson
If you know the years each Alien movie takes place in. The death date doesn't add up no matter how you read it.
Look at scenes cut from Aliens and Terminator - totally relevant and add to the story, filmed at great cost, and would have been excruciatingly painful for any Director to cut, but the result is punchier and works better for theatrical cut.
That's the kind of thing that made this guy the absolute shit, before he decided to spend the rest of his life making gay smurf movies for some reason.
The movie is definitely better without seeing the colony before they get there, and removes a bunch of coincidences like Newt's parents being the ones to find the first alien. Also you can see why you don't need to be bashed over the head with Ripley's daughter.
Same goes for the chip replacement scene in Terminator, there's some great Sarah/John dynamics in that.
They all tie into the main themes without missing a beat, so I'm glad they exist as Director's Cuts, and worth watching.
Yeah Cameron is (well was) great at making a solid original release and an extended cut that worked at home where you didn't mind sitting down for another 20-30 minutes.
Im surprised he never released a DC of Titanic, because the fan made cut with all the deleted scenes is great in it's own way even if it's fricking 4 hours long (white star line edition)
Also the deleted scene showing the T-1000 malfunctioning being cut was a smart move, it really does make him seem invincible.
I read the screenplay prior to seeing the film on release, so I was really perplexed by the lack of the T-1000 malfunction scene at first. Now I don't know what Cameron was even thinking since it undercuts John knowing who his real mother was without the obvious feel melded to the floor shit. The real Sarah Connor would never beg him for help. Not only not showing weakness against her character at that point, she'd rather fricking die than do it when he's still in danger.
Though it looks cool when he melds to the metal bar, and I could tell that just by reading it, I don't even know how that shit would have ever got to the filming stage, let alone post-production effects in the first place. So glad it was removed from theatrical cut.
Too much tape, too expensive for retail
I liked it because it adds to the scifi and cruel nature of space travel. You could get lost in hypersleep and miss decades, with people you cared about dying and come back to a completely changed society
Seeing Hadley's Hope was kino
The biggest pity about that scene being cut was literal Captain Holister was in it:
It's always crazy then there's these big elaborate expensive parts of a movie that end up getting cut. Like french plantation.
I never understood what the xenos were doing with their collective thumbs up their asses for so long, long enough to have that colony get not only up and running but all the way to regualr blue collar drudgery
There are no xenos at that point, just eggs in the ship and it was very far away from the colony. They only find it when Ripley tells Burke where it is, and Burke sends a message asking them to go look and see if anything is there. Then one of the facehuggers attaches to the colonist. Then I guess the colonists brought back more eggs or the xeno did.
Frick cgi. Fire everybody who works at cgi. Ban cgi. disqualify anybody who uses cgi.
Every alien movie has so much cut content that would have only made the movies better, it's criminal
It wasn't Cameron's fault, it was the studio's fault.
That game is meme'd in Cinemaphile??? Is it that popular? I 've only gone to Cinemaphile about 5 times
its competently made and has great visual fidelity from Alien (the first movie).
Cute Jonesy
giv thicc newt mommy
>The milfs mostly come out at night.........mostly
Worst part about the Alien films is the music during the alien mutant's death in 3.
Fun fact: Alien Isolation is set between Alien and Aliens.
The game is like a very good homemade extremely spicy sauce: you know it's good, you love it waaaaay after you downed it, but every bite is a challenge.
buy a fricking ad
I don't get your sarcasm
Shitty rubber-banding alien AI ruined the game, also the balancing sucks in general, and it's too long. Top-tier visual design and atmosphere though.
>and it's too long
That is impossible to complain about.
What do you mean balancing?
>Shitty rubber-banding alien AI ruined the game, also the balancing sucks in general
I never had an issue with the Alien, you just gotta crouch and move slowly and you can basically get through the entire game without dying. Most of the times I died was because I was to enthralled watching the Xeno that I got too close.
>and it's too long.
I don't get this complaint, 10-12 hours is a perfect amount of time for a game, you get home, you chill out, play for an hour before and maybe after dinner and you get to enjoy the game for, like, two weeks. Way better than a 5 hour campaign that you finish on a Saturday afternoon the same day you bought the game.
Two weeks? I am stuck in the medical station since December 2021
If Weyland was obsessed with immortality in Prometheus why didn't just put himself in stasis sleep until the technology came? A guy with his resources could probably do it for hundreds of years and even find a way to make time dilation aid him.
No one ever mentions Jusse!
It's not a necessary scene
Ripley has enough motivation without it and her being a mother doesn't change anything in the plot
this and the sentry gun sequence were cut out so the cinemas could fit in an extra showing a day.
its all about the money
thats what you get when <<they>> run the show.
im surprized they diddnt try to get out of paying cameron, like they did with peter jackson
Its very important because Newt having lost her family also gets to reconcile all the pain and trauma along with Ripley. At the end when she calls her Mummy I weep.
