There was no script. They literally had no idea what they were doing. It was just a laugh for the crew while Wong was on a break from filming other, actual real movies.
No one ever talks about the (superior) first half
Yeah it's maddening. Because the rest of it is utter shit.
what was the point of the first half?
it could have been removed and the movie would be better
Keneshiro's performance, speaking 3 languages fluently, and being effortlessly charismatic and endearing.
The pixie tomboy woman dancing awkwardly couldn't act her way out of a paper bag, And Wong knew it too, that's why she doesn't say anything.
> There was no script
Doubt. But this movie deals plot gays out of the water forever.
Like a nirvana song, the words are not important persay, each song invokes a certain mood,
Just like each part of this movie invokes a mood,
Written and directed by a white guy, and it shows. Comes off like he only has no real understanding of Asian culture and just hired a bunch of Asian actors to act like white losers.
Reminds me the fighter Chan Sung Jung with his nickname Korean Zombie and his Cranberries walkout song Zombie. People think it came from his ability to take damage, but actually he says he just chose it randomly to appeal to white fans because as he put it "whites like zombie stuff". So basically "if we do X the Laowai's will eat it up". None of it is genuine.
Elaborate. Do Asian critics dislike this film? Chungking Express doesn't feel like a Western film at all. It's unique, similar to Wong Kar-wai's older films.
I think it even filtered Western critics in 1994, only later the film became a classic.
There are two sets of Asian critics, "Asian" critics who work for Western media outlets and write for English publications half the time, then actual Asian critics you won't see quoted on Wikipedia or mentioned anywhere on the English speaking internet.

You could just use common sense. Take OP's picture, she's holding up a Coke can and dancing around to a Cranberries cover. They couldn't make it anymore obvious they are pandering to your white ass.

Because it's Hong Kong, lol.
>Chungking Mansions features guesthouses, curry restaurants, African bistros, clothing shops, sari stores, and foreign exchange offices. It often acts as a large gathering place for some of the ethnic minorities in Hong Kong, particularly South Asians (Indians, Nepalese, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and Sri Lankans), Middle Eastern people, Nigerians, Europeans, Americans, and many other peoples of the world. Peter Shadbolt of CNN stated that the complex was the "unofficial African quarter of Hong Kong".[3]
The whole first part shows smelly Indians being ugly and criminal.

Also, the only white guy is a drug dealer.

Sounds like a Hollywood movie then. They've done their research.
>have sex with?
Nothing so vulgar. I want to lay my head on her chest with the rain pounding the window outside with the smell of brewed tea in the room as we both pass in and out of sleep as the rain pitter patters the day away.
It's an Asian thing. The couple always realizes their feelings but then they separate for a year or 2 before reuniting. This, kdrama, animes, it's their weird culture
They made the phone you are posting with right now.
>play the same shitty boomer hippie song on repeat for like a fricking hour while Asians work at a snackbar
Just what I want from my movies, yes

Huh?
They make movies like this to appeal to white audiences. Cringe 'Parts Unknown' tier "just like us" crap. Basically Bong Joon Ho's entire career.

I dont care about critics, Asian or otherwise.
MRF. mentally moronic female
Can we all just admit the only reason this movie is so enduring is everyone wants to have sex with this girl?
>have sex with?
Nothing so vulgar. I want to lay my head on her chest with the rain pounding the window outside with the smell of brewed tea in the room as we both pass in and out of sleep as the rain pitter patters the day away.
This is actually the scene where her cover of Dreams by Cranberries plays.
I’m grateful this movie exists because I made $200 selling my criterion
I'm curious what kind of person would want to buy this for $200
No one ever talks about the (superior) first half
what was the point of the first half?
it could have been removed and the movie would be better
As much as I like Tony Leung, the guy from the first half was better and more cute
i liked this even more than i liked in the mood, but i seem alone in that opinion
Trudeau approves!
>main character dreams of california
>her favourite song is california dreamin
oh come on
AND THE SKY IS BROWN
AND THE SKYS ARE GRAY
ALL MY POOPS ARE BROWN
I vaguely remember this
>finally confesses love to cop guy
>immediately flies off to wherever
how is this romantic? bpd girl was probably fricking everybody before she got back
