Genndy sucked at drawing appealing characters. I don’t know how he didn’t get laughed at when showing the CN execs his Dexter’s Dad “redesign”.
It’s even more apparent in Unicorn Warriors Eternal where everyone goes from looking like standard Fleischer characters to malformed blobs depending on the scene. Genndy should’ve stayed in the Soviet Union making shit adaptations of Uncle Fedya, Cheburashka or some other garbage that Eastern European boomers obsess over.
Genndy was a little kid when he left USSR, his drawing style probably has little to do with it

The proportions and posture create a completely different impression. Left looks masculine, rigid, a bit tubby, like an old school dad, which he is. Right looks more snarky, laid-back, like a slacker.
