Their way of life just wasn't meant to last forever. It was going to eventually end. If not from the local cities, then the spaniards arriving were going to end it.
this, the action and story are just so simple, direct and pure, it's like it taps into a platonic form of storytelling lurking just outside the cave, the kind of movie that can transcend cultures and generations (i sound like i'm onionsposting but am being serious fwiw)

I fricking hate that this movie flopped
I need similar movies, bros
i watched this movie like 2 months ago because theres a lot of talks about how good it is and i got bored and thought it sucked so hard, what am i not getting? im mexican btw
>im mexican btw
It's a slow burner followed by a 90min chase, if you don't like slow burners, you don't like slow burners
If it's for the structure, you probably won't like
The Revenant. It's mostly on the same beats.

>Budget 40M >Domestic 50M
Looks like it kinda broke even counting some of international as well
Problem is, the majority of the budget went to all the extras with their individual costume and makeup person, for scenes that didn't actually mattered on the movie's appeal/final word of mouth.
Mel should have done the same movie with 1/3 of the extras, and would have been pretty much the same movie, with less budget
I don't even remember the mayan city besides the closeups to the really really detailed extras
Extra n#240 on the back didn't needed a wig, prosthetic and movie grade bodypaint, when you can achieve the same thing with movie magic
Your movie is not more authentic because everything IS real, everything just have to LOOK real on camera, and not even every time on camera, just for what's in focus
He should have hired another director of photography for 1M and save 9M from extras
this guy is such a glaring embodiment of sheer perversity. he really reminds me of the average thugs i see here in brazil. i think there's something in the ether in south america, lowlives are moral scum everywhere in the world, but they seem to have an extra dose of lust and cruelty in these lands. anyway great movie, one of my favorites
>cities bad
>jungle good
Their way of life just wasn't meant to last forever. It was going to eventually end. If not from the local cities, then the spaniards arriving were going to end it.
>native girls with their own kind bad
>native girls colonized by me good
Yes.
Yes
Naturally
these guys are such obvious mestizos, they're probably like 75% euro
mel should've cast actual maya
>they're probably like 75% euro
This is what mexiturds actually believe lmaooo
Apocalypto is undiluted kino.

you're just a big ball eating lunk head. Don't worry about it, someone has to be moronic

look i'm trying to be nice to people these days but frick you for being bored by apocalypto
Perhaps you were overhyped. Give it a chance again some other time
Mel really brought out their best acting, the cast is so great.
You always have to imagine Mel to be right out of picture with a megaphone.
There's another webm where he is just running around with a megaphone, screaming at people.
Which seems to work, he has some talent.
I fricking hate that this movie flopped
don't hate that. great movies do not need sequels and their success is irrelevant, they are good.
Same. It could've ushered in a new glorious era of historical kino, but instead of that we got 15 years of capeshit.
was it really a flop? I don't know Hollywood accounting but this seems profitable

That would have been fricking lame.

What the hell was his problem?
I almost had you
It doesn't matter if you miss by an inch or a mile. Killing's killing.

it's the dead eyes mouth breathing combo
Such a cool production
I need similar movies, bros
Been a long time since I watched this, but I remember it hitting a lot of the same story beats.
There really isn't anything similar
Unironically
Embrace of the Serpent but it's more arty and slow
The northman
Assuming you mean verisimilitude, high testosterone movies, this is great
Cortes did nothing wrong
destroying the aztecs was based but breeding with the pygmy cannibal mutants of central america was his big mistake
