I unironically think they were just lazily ripping off the old EU books. Han and Leia's son becomes a Sith Lord named Darth Caedus and Disney made him a Sith Lord named Darth Kyle. Luke's son in the books was named Ben, so they just slapped that name on Darth Kyle because Luke doesn't have a family in this canon.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if the next trilogy involves something called The Starfactory or Middlepoint Station as its superweapon.
