The older I get the more I really think Tony Montana is a good guy. He's a square guy in an underworld of psychos. The ending always makes me sad. But then again there are no happy endings in the drug world.
He fricked up being overprotective of his sister and getting high on his own supply but beyond that he just wanted to make is way up in a situation that was fricked.

His womb (female) is polluted
He's an anti hero like Deniro in casino. Effectively a criminal but his ends are innocent enough to make you vouch for him.
What I dont understand about this ending though is why he didnt invest in a private defence force of his own.
>why he didnt invest in a private defence force of his own.
he think he's hot shit who can handle himself, and goes to teust people less and less
he's an impulsive moron with a noveau rich mindset in an old money game
>and goes to teust people less and less
well after the money counting scene what would you expect? The man knew violence, he wasn't born with a silver spoon for business sense.
did you not see the wall of cameras behind him? it took an army of guys to kill him in the end.
yeah and his only downfall was only having two dumbasses watching his back and not a team of skilled fighters. Probably would have taken down Sosa's whole team if not for the last few guys left.
I only knew this movie from memes and I thought I was in for watching a movie about a drug lord being his own worse enemy. But it is more kino than that. He's a principled criminal. He did a lot of the dirt jobs crime bosses would turn away from. Hell it wasn't even the feds that did him in. He just refused to kill children. He was happy to get the job done as is but no his bosses wanted the killing to be public right on the doorstep of the UN.. Even in the depths of crack and incest the man still had a code.
>incest
Never been able to deduce if Tony was turned on by that moment or if he was just blind coked out of his head or both.
>still had a code.
pointless code. kids and toddlers are dying in the third world to drugs. stupid plot point.
>stupid plot point.
its not a plot point its the theme of the whole film. He can't be both a ruthless criminal and keep his humanity to be a friend, brother, or father. His principles are worthless because he bends them. Its there in his confrontation with his mother
>bomb succeeds and kills the guy right at the UN
how does that not attract more heat?
I think Sosa and his allies were desperate and that was the guy's only unguarded moment. They may've planned to blame the bombing on commies or something.
He's a crass, violent, impulsive moron who forces his way to the top for a short while by being good at killing people, then makes himself completely miserable due entirely to his own moronic choices. Of all of the "literally me" antihero characters hes the least relatable, he has ONE good quality and thats not being willing to blow up a car full of children. Even Patrick Bateman was more charming and sympathetic than him.
Any man with a sister, a drive to achieve greatness, and a spine can see themselves in Tony. If you dont, then you're a low T beta male. Simple as.
Tony did not achieve greatness. Tony lived it up for like a year, got everyone he cared about killed, and made himself completely miserable by marrying a clearly dysfunctional prostitute, then got violently murdered
He's the protagonist. You're suppose to cheer him on. And he's likable. He has a code of honor. He came from a shitty start where violence was often the only option. He didn't seem to want to use it unless necessary. Other around him though were more than willing to frick each other over. He wanted a good life, and he got one. Unfortunately the world he did it in doesn't tolerate those with scruples
Violence against other poor people.
>Violence against other poor people.

Tony's major frick up was dumping his regular banker for some shady operation that turns out to be FBI.
Tony was a greedy frick and Frank was right to try and take him out. But he was still a sympathetic character until he took over Frank's empire. From that point onward he straight up became an butthole to everyone - his henchmen, Manny, Gina, Elvira, everyone - because he was happier in the pursuit of the dream than in his achievement of it.
“HEY, FRICK YOU MANE!”
>Is this it? That's what it's all about, Anon? Jumping, shooting, leveling, grinding? Then what? You're max level. You got all the epic items but nothing for real. You ain't been outside in weeks, only people you know are in the computer. And you're eating this frickin' shit hot pockets, looking like these fricking pale mummies in here... look at that. An AI girl. I got a frickin' AI girl for a waifu. She don't eat nothing. Says the same shit all day she been programmed to say. And she won't frick me 'cause she's not real. I can't even have a kid with her, Anon. Her womb is just 1's and 0's, I can't even have a frickin' little baby with her!
>Fricked over Frank who was the guy that gave him his big break
This alone makes me despise him. Frank took him off the street and wanted him to succeed and Tony blatantly fricks his business over by ordering too much supply.
>Tony blatantly fricks his business over by ordering too much supply
He also gets the righthand man killed, openly defies Frank's orders, and literally flirts with the gf in front of him. And he has the gall to claim he never crossed Frank
Very true. Tony wouldn't have been anywhere without Frank, but instead of being grateful Tony immediately starts planning to screw over Frank and take his wife. And Tony would have been far better off just getting a cute, fresh 18 year old wife that wasn't a cokehead, all used up, and could give him kids like he wanted.
This show up as soon as they got to America, instead of being grateful he's in America and out, he immediately resorts to selling drugs, and pushing to sell hard drugs instead of just weed. Tony slacks at his gainful employment and let the dirty dishes pile up -- their boss wasn't so bad because their boss let them go out to meet people before getting back to the dishes.
>Tony slacks at his gainful employment and let the dirty dishes pile up
this i noticed this too. I DIDNT COME HERE TO WASH DISHES. shitty third world attitude.
I've never met a white person who looked up to Tony Montana
I have. They were wiggers.
None of those are on.
HES A JOURNALIST GET HIS ASS!!!
HE SELLS MICROPHONES AT A RADIO SHACK
I don't look up to Tony Montana but I do find myself rooting for him.
So stupid he died at the end. Should have atleast had a sequel. I’m sure there will be one in the future but it will ruin the name of the franchise and just be a total dumpster fire
Check out the game Scarface The World Is Yours for PS2, it’s a game built to be a what-if sequel to Scarface with Tony surviving and taking on his drug lord enemies while building his empire back up.
There is a PC version as well
Needs a patch tho. The game itself is great.
Is it me or has anyone else noticed that people will more often defend characters who are evil but have small bits of good while being more likely to decry morally good characters who will sometimes fall to temptations?
>Is it me or has anyone else noticed
That's just human nature
>He fricked up being overprotective of his sister
yeah that part of the film is just wierd. lol. all male film characters just have to cuck out. in Heat, De Niro's character cucked out to that chick.
He did the opposite by taking off. In that movie nobody chose their chick over their profession
>The older I get the more I really think Tony Montana is a good guy
Your moral compass is broken or you are a moron.
Morality is subjective. Enforce your moral code upon others or risk having it done to you.
>moral compass
Honestly the older you get and realise society is ran by scumbags and psychos who really dont deserve power the more having a "moral compass" is bullshit.
I used to think mob films glorified unnecessary degenerate behaviour but as ive gotten older and been ground through the mill of several people trying to frick me legally and financially, and wasting most of my 20s being underpaid the more I really respect the anti hero grind displayed in Pacino/Deniro/Pesci Scorsese-esque movies.
This is what the mafia was all about to begin with. Turning on a system that fricks it's people over and instead running shit and building an empire with your family.
His morality is not relevant, he's a moron either way.
and then a blimp goes by
>Am I supposed to like him?
no
>hello Marta
Totally natural and non-suspicious posing.
I always remember this scene vividly because the second I saw this lady I thought, that is one of the ugliest, reptile looking women I've ever seen. This image is permaburned into my mental. She's so frickin weird looking
>manny's voice in the background of Elvira's introduction talking about thinking this fricking ugly chick with a gun was a dudevhpp
How can eating pussy cause a scar like that?
the dumbass doesn’t listen to his banker who’s trying to help him, and thinks he can take on the US government instead of paying them off
I liked that Tony's defeat ultimately stemmed from him going too far up the evil totem pole. He had to rub shoulders with truly demonic scum like Sosa, who were willing to bloody their hands with mothers and children if need be. Tony couldn't bring himself to do it and it got him killed. Seeing Tony kill the child murderer in the car, then picking off a ton of Sosa's golems, felt really good
There was no reason for Tony to drive the car. If Manny had driven the car or just Tony's henchmen, the plan would have gone off without a hitch
Tony isn't a good guy; he's a regular guy who isn't nearly as evil as he thinks, and ends up getting fricked up the ass bc he fricked around and found out.
The film is about the consequences of messing around with evil. You're not supposed to hate Tony or see him as a monster. You're supposed to realize he got involved with people who are actual monsters, and he thought he could keep up, but he had more conscience than he realized. When he refuses to kill the kids, it's simultaneously his redemption and his doom. You are supposed to be happy that he doesn't kill them, but the real takeaway is you can get so deeply involved with evil that by the time you realize you're actually good, it's too late and evil either demands you embody it, or it kills you.
There is no such thing as a halfway crook, so better not to be one at all. That's the point of the story.
Childhood is Scarface, adulthood is Heat
>in 2024 people still worship the Tony Montana figure for the manly and stronk characteristics that they ignored have lead him to his unfullfilling life and death as a tragic antihero
truly one of the most poorly understood character arcs, pure beta wigger homoerotic selfinsert
A MAN WIDDOUT HIS WORD IS A wienerAROACH
