For some reason horror is a particularly difficult genre to pull off, it's not just in movies, the same happens in video games.

Conjuring, Paranormal Activity, It Follows, IT, Sinister, Blair Witch Project, Poltergeist. The only horror I’ve enjoyed has been A Quiet Place, and even that was more just a mediocre action movie than horror.

Those were more examples of movies I hated more than anything else. Even stuff like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the Purge are terrible to me. Just not quite as bad as the satanic shit.

I don't find horror movie scary, though. I usually am on the monster's side. It's funny to see teenagers being decapitated or smashed against a tree inside their sleeping bag. I'm in it for the grotesque stuff, really. Don't care much for those demon ghost movies though, they're so fricking boring.
IT is an alien and Poltergeist is a house built on top of an old cemetary I dunno about It Follows, but the others have demons, but just demons doesn't mean satanicism is involved.

Horror has been a boring genera for a while now but horror comedies are always gold
horror is a lot like comedy in that it relies on gutpunches and rugpulls to get a visceral reaction out of the audience
good comedy stays with you forever, but bad comedy -- that which fails to get the response it's after -- not only sucks but makes us so angry that it's socially acceptable to heckle bad comedians. it's not just lame, it's insulting.
horror is the same way, but not only is bad horror insulting, it's embarrassing, because it's like whoever was trying to scare you not only made a shitty thing, and not only insulted you, but also humiliatingly admitted "uh well i thought this rubber mask was scary!"

the whole reason horror is fun because it's really hard to find absolutely terrifying horror movies, they're so few and far between. You can find plenty of midwit reddit jumpscare horror movies, and that can be fun if you're in the right mindset
but to find movies that are TRULY terrifying, that leave an impact on you as you walk out the theatre and later that night when you try to get to sleep? that's rare, and for me part of the fun is finding that hidden gem where you actually want to tell people "hey this movie is truly frightening, you should go see it"
