He feels TOO...I don't really know if there's a word for it, but artificially sassy and mean. Like he's made to appeal to that audience as the snarky butthole. That's a valid point and I feel like the show is leaning towards that, actually. There seems to be some kind of guilt or shame in Caine when confronted about the exit door, for example. If Goose is right and this is going to be similar to IHNMAIMS (with Caine as the presumed primary AM comparison), there has to be some sort of tragic element to his character reating to his inherent limitations as a purely digital creature. I feel that his perky, exuberant personality could easily shatter if someone point blank brings up some of the glaring holes or problems with the whole "circus" or if the reality of his existence was revealed to him. I'm also already very invested in him as a character so I might just be reading a lot into him, though.

I feel like they already tapped into this with that one scene about digital hallucinations when Caine goes quiet and leaves in a huff, might be his only quiet or real scene in the whole pilot where he isn’t playing a character, that and when he interacts with bubble who might hold some significance to this whole thing
I would be very surprised if Goose doesn’t end up making Caine tragic it’s basically the MO of every cartoon they’ve made to make everyone and everything at least slightly miserable
Imo in Caine's case there's the thing that he's just incompetent and unable to guess what the people trapped in the circus want rather than an evil butthole, so in the case he receives a tragic side to his character I think it wouldn't be too jarring.
My loose theory is that Caine (and probably some of the other NPCs like the sun/moon, Bubble, the mannequins) were intended to interact solely with players rather than permanent "performers".
He seems to be trying really hard to sell this place as a wacky vacation full of adventure and fun to the characters and only really seems to drop his ringmaster facade when he starts to go off-script and doesn't know what to say (when talking about the void or the exit signs etc). He's being forced by proxy to make up ways to entertain and host a bunch of people who were never intended to stay in the circus for this long and seems to be constantly teetering on the edge of just not knowing what to do. Even with the abstractions-- he just seems to shove them "under" the world into an unused area, he can't delete or remove them, just push them out of sight. It makes me wonder if he's ever going to crack or break down.

Zooble is the logical endpoint of SEXO character designs, she triggers every impulse without there being a credible reason as to HOW or WHY she's frickable. Ironically, Gooseworx implying that they made Zooble purposefully unattractive to dissuade Rule 34 worked, but only because artists and viewers alike don't have to do anything. With Caine you don't really know, since his design riffs off of a videogame glitch where everything but the model's eyes and mouth disappear. It's actually possible he got corrupted from the simulation running for so long and doesn't actually look that way.

The very broad and general outline has some similarities but the themes they explore are vastly different. It's like saying the Star Wars prequel trilogy is inspired by Harry Potter because it's about a young mistreated boy who is actually very special and gets to go to an academy to learn magic.
Raggedy Ann is in public domain and that makes me even more afraid given how a lot of black souls content is old shit that's fallen into public domain.
Yeah. I want to like it, but without AM, or rather, their version of AM being a goofy moron, it sort of feels like it has less of a point, if a point at all other than misery porn.
People keep saying it's "misery porn" but to me it feels way more like a grief cycle type of thing, or the acceptance of oblivion and eternity with a smattering of existential identity crises tossed in for fun. The characters do seem to care about eachother, Caine clearly doesn't want to hurt the humans (he just seems unsure of how to adequately care for them in their new home) and overall it feels more like a story about coming to terms with catastrophe and adapting/overcoming creeping dread or despair. Then again maybe I'm just projecting a more optimistic reading onto it
i'd say that the torment not coming from malice heightens the existential horror elements of it, which are clearly being foregrounded compared to IHNMAIMS where they only really come in at the end
I mean, sure, but a big part of IHNMAIMS is how close Ted was to killing himself and succeeding. The hope that he ends the torment was a big part of why the ending was so horrendous. If there's no hope to begin and everyone ends up as a blob that inflicts unrelenting agony if they touch you, then the show is absolutely just going to be misery porn with a dash of character drama to string along the porn artists.

It's a fact of Glitch's channel analytics. If you actually think ACD would have gotten as many views as it did in such a short amount of time without there already being an established fanbase for Glitch because of Murder Drones' success you are genuinely delusional. If MD had never existed, the ADC pilot would have likely seen similar growth to the MD pilot 2 years ago - so 24mil in 2 years. Then a year downtime while Meta Runner finishes (averaging like 900k views an episode), then a year of production which would be Glitch's most popular show by far, establishing a much larger fanbase primarily based around ADC. A few episodes before the season finale they tease and drop a pilot for a new show which gets millions of views extremely quickly as Glitch's already established viewerbase checks this new production out, which stirs up discussion and popularity and attracts new viewers. It would be the exact same thing with the shows switched around - one just happens to be newer and was released at a time when the viewerbase is much bigger.
Really, I want to fug Pomni until she has a ton of circus babies, but I also want to comfort her. It's easy to sympathize with someone suffering from an existential crisis.

I noticed the "insane but jolly master of ceremonies" type of character is a common trope these days. I wrote one for a story I was working on but after I watched tGDC and seeing Caine, as much as I liked his character and style, I feel like they're a dime a dozen and I need to make changes to stand out, just being zany and having cartoon powers just doesn't seem special anymore. There are plenty of chows that aren't like that, even in the indie scene. Ironically, Satina is far closer in tone and execution to old CN toons. Lackadaisy is a meticulously animated pilot with more of an action adventure tone to it. It's not all like this, its just that stuff that speaks to the loud autistic crowd tends to get way more traction because those sorts of people are naturally more prone to sharing and talking about their interests

Nobody knows if Joe gave up, the longer you wait the more likely the creator stopped giving a frick and the last ENA episode was 2 years ago. The world of Fear and Hunger, as fantastical and horrifying it is, is still bound to the rules of realism and as it is basically an alternate version of Earth's history then it wouldn't be so bad as long you aren't one of unfortunate who stuck their noses where they don't belong to.
The Black Souls world in the other hand throws the realism out of the window and leaves only the fantastical madness of being a puppet in a theater or a circus in a very sickening act that would make 10 out of 30 people faint in shock of the madness of what's happening and that's only without spoilers.
While true there is also the fact that sometimes gods just grow interested in a certain area which will in turn frick everyone in said area up as we see in termina, though you are right on that end that it mostly plays to reality, maybe i should try black souls

That's a valid point and I feel like the show is leaning towards that, actually. There seems to be some kind of guilt or shame in Caine when confronted about the exit door, for example. If Goose is right and this is going to be similar to IHNMAIMS (with Caine as the presumed primary AM comparison), there has to be some sort of tragic element to his character reating to his inherent limitations as a purely digital creature. I feel that his perky, exuberant personality could easily shatter if someone point blank brings up some of the glaring holes or problems with the whole "circus" or if the reality of his existence was revealed to him. I'm also already very invested in him as a character so I might just be reading a lot into him, though.
The same way I read too hard into Ragatha, anon. It's alright, it just means you have brainrot for a character you really like.
I feel like they already tapped into this with that one scene about digital hallucinations when Caine goes quiet and leaves in a huff, might be his only quiet or real scene in the whole pilot where he isn’t playing a character, that and when he interacts with bubble who might hold some significance to this whole thing
I would be very surprised if Goose doesn’t end up making Caine tragic it’s basically the MO of every cartoon they’ve made to make everyone and everything at least slightly miserable
Imo in Caine's case there's the thing that he's just incompetent and unable to guess what the people trapped in the circus want rather than an evil butthole, so in the case he receives a tragic side to his character I think it wouldn't be too jarring.
My loose theory is that Caine (and probably some of the other NPCs like the sun/moon, Bubble, the mannequins) were intended to interact solely with players rather than permanent "performers".
He seems to be trying really hard to sell this place as a wacky vacation full of adventure and fun to the characters and only really seems to drop his ringmaster facade when he starts to go off-script and doesn't know what to say (when talking about the void or the exit signs etc). He's being forced by proxy to make up ways to entertain and host a bunch of people who were never intended to stay in the circus for this long and seems to be constantly teetering on the edge of just not knowing what to do. Even with the abstractions-- he just seems to shove them "under" the world into an unused area, he can't delete or remove them, just push them out of sight. It makes me wonder if he's ever going to crack or break down.

Yeah. I want to like it, but without AM, or rather, their version of AM being a goofy moron, it sort of feels like it has less of a point, if a point at all other than misery porn.
People keep saying it's "misery porn" but to me it feels way more like a grief cycle type of thing, or the acceptance of oblivion and eternity with a smattering of existential identity crises tossed in for fun. The characters do seem to care about eachother, Caine clearly doesn't want to hurt the humans (he just seems unsure of how to adequately care for them in their new home) and overall it feels more like a story about coming to terms with catastrophe and adapting/overcoming creeping dread or despair. Then again maybe I'm just projecting a more optimistic reading onto it
i'd say that the torment not coming from malice heightens the existential horror elements of it, which are clearly being foregrounded compared to IHNMAIMS where they only really come in at the end
I mean, sure, but a big part of IHNMAIMS is how close Ted was to killing himself and succeeding. The hope that he ends the torment was a big part of why the ending was so horrendous. If there's no hope to begin and everyone ends up as a blob that inflicts unrelenting agony if they touch you, then the show is absolutely just going to be misery porn with a dash of character drama to string along the porn artists.

There are plenty of chows that aren't like that, even in the indie scene. Ironically, Satina is far closer in tone and execution to old CN toons. Lackadaisy is a meticulously animated pilot with more of an action adventure tone to it. It's not all like this, its just that stuff that speaks to the loud autistic crowd tends to get way more traction because those sorts of people are naturally more prone to sharing and talking about their interests

The world of Fear and Hunger, as fantastical and horrifying it is, is still bound to the rules of realism and as it is basically an alternate version of Earth's history then it wouldn't be so bad as long you aren't one of unfortunate who stuck their noses where they don't belong to.
The Black Souls world in the other hand throws the realism out of the window and leaves only the fantastical madness of being a puppet in a theater or a circus in a very sickening act that would make 10 out of 30 people faint in shock of the madness of what's happening and that's only without spoilers.
While true there is also the fact that sometimes gods just grow interested in a certain area which will in turn frick everyone in said area up as we see in termina, though you are right on that end that it mostly plays to reality, maybe i should try black souls

I just wanted to say, the only things I didn't like about this is the dialogue and Pomni's breackneck breakdown. I don't just want to say it was Reddit dialogue, but a lot of it, Ragatha in particular, sounded a lot like

It was the kind of stuff where I just want to gently whack the writer with a rolled up newspaper as if they were a naughty kitty. Pomni also panicked really quickly, didn't feel like the natural gnawing anxiety of the environment really set in, but I guess Pomni is naturally neurotic
She just sounds like a young teacher to me, reddit is not really a nice place nowadays, they are just as agressive as Cinemaphile but in a more "I'm smarter than you and you are wrong about everything" way

The only cringe thing that stood out to me is the dialog between Raghatta and Pomni when Raghatta is glitching out

2 and 3 are the best. They look the most "normal" while still being recognizable.
