Basically it's the plot of I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, where a group of humans are trapped in a virtual hellscape by a mad AI, except that hell looks like some kind of children's computer game from the 90s about a toybox circus. (And no, this show isn't going to be analog horror.)

Nope. That show's by a different creator. Cinemaphile generally agrees the pilot is kind of cringe while the rest of the show is great. But because it's by another showrunner, you can't gauge how this show will be apart from the animation, since the lead animator for this pilot did scenes like this:
Produced by the same indie studio, Glitch, but they are not related. Amazing Digital Circus and Murder Drones are seemungly going to have some overlap in their animation teams, but apart from that they are not related to eachother. Murder Drones has its eldritch horror themes a lot more in the forefront, from what we know of ADC the creepier stuff seems more subdued behind the wacky, vibrant Gooseworx style. If you watch any of Liam Vickers or Gooseworx stuff on Youtube you can get a general feel for both.
You should definitely check out Murder Drones, though.
I love how the AS is just as creepy in the show as its artwork makes it out to be.

Yeah, the analog part in analog horror comes from the analog media, like VHS, cassettes and stuff like that, not digital formats. Analog formats degrade easier than digital, yet can still be reproduced if the physical damage allows it. That gives analog media that uncanny eerie vibe, as you can tell something isn't okay on its format.
One interesting case of how effective analog media degrading over time can be is the Disintegration Loops.
It literally has digital in the title. There's nothing analog about it.

I mean, it doesn’t look as visually demanding as MD
Bare in mind I'm also pretty sure they did heavy rewrites of the entire Murder Drones story some time after the pilot, which is probably why the first episodes took so long to start dropping. I'm glad for it, the story we have now is much better than what the supposed original plan was going to be - which was just more of what the Pilot was instead of what Episode 2 ended up giving us.
As for ADC, the animation itself looks somewhat on-par with Murder Drones, but less technically demanding with the lighting and finer details due to the more simplistic design of the world because of the aesthetic it's going for. So I expect it to be easier to produce than Murder Drones, it just depends on how well the Pilot is received and whether there will be any hiccups between the pilot's release and further episodes.

And they somehow have enough time left over to produce new SMG4 episodes on a near weekly basis
I’m pretty sure the gap between new Glitch episode releases combined is smaller than gap between Hazbin Hotel’s pilot and its series premiere that’s apparently happening in less than two weeks

Digital Circus looks somewhat more difficult to animate to me. Murder Drones uses a lot of mocap, while ADC looks entirely hand-animated.
Murder Drones' action scenes might make it more demanding overall, though, since those would be done mostly by hand.
MD looks to have stopped using Mocap since Ep 2, anon.
Are there any notable studios that regularly use mocap for purely animated productions? It seems to work better for live action theatrical films (although they also have absolutely gigantic vfx budgets to go back over everything and fix weird looking shit). I haven't seen mocap used super effectively in purely animated contexts before although maybe it's just because when it's done well I can't tell?

Huh, I somehow didn't notice that. I think you're right. Or if they do still use mocap, it's more limited or more heavily edited.
If you look closely, you can notice a change in animation after Episode 2 as that's when they got Kevin Temmer on board the animation team. Evidently, it seems Kevin's animation habits spread to the entire team and they ended up just not using Motion Capture at all. You can notice with the quality increase, even in scened where Kevin didn't animate at all. He animated very little of Episode 6 due to being busy with Amazing Digital Circus, but you can really see his influence on the rest of the team's animation style. It's really insane how much they improved and learned off the guy to be able to just drop mocap like that, even if it makes the show more expensive and more difficult to make. It looks so much better now.
That's pretty impressive. I knew they hired Kevin, but I didn't realize he had such an influence. I checked now and found he's the lead animator for the whole studio, so it makes sense I suppose.
Using the shimmer of Ragatha's rubbery mouth as a substitute for teeth... That's actually kind of ingenious.
I have a dark deep feeling that when this drops, the threads it will eventfully have will produce autism on the level of the Murder Drones threads.
And I am all here for it.
Might take a while. This is a brand new show that has nothing to do with Murder Drones, and there's already people who thought it would be getting in the way of Murder Drones before the trailer came out, so there probably won't be as many people checking it out except to ask what happened to episode 7 of Murder Drones.

- recent Murder drones is about a bunch of worker robots on an abandoned exoplanet after humans died, later om a company sends killer robots to get rid of them. It turns out nothing is like it seems and all of the robots are really weird. It has the NieR type of stuff where you should doubt everything and everyone.
TLDR guy writes kino eldritch mystery series with some humor and killer waifus as a bonus.

I've been a fan of SMG4 for almost but the videos really went downhill around 2018 or 2019. there's only a handful of modern SMG4 videos that i like. i do love Murder Drones though
i haven't watched much of Gooseworx but I watched Elaine and Darly Boxman and i liked both of them so i have high expectations for Digital Circus
I love Gooseworx, I think all her animations are great and fun. Music are more hit and miss i.mo and all have that "circus" style but I do like Starline Stroll and Black Hole blitz for example.
I like some of SMG4 videos too but after you've seen a few it's all the same randumb humor most of the time. It's fun from time to time though. Glitch videos I don't like that much, haven't watched Meta Runner, tried Island stuff and didn't like, and after watching Murder Drone's pilot the humor feels really reddit and too "self-aware" but I liked the second episode so maybe I'll watch the rest someday.
Funny story, I became an SMG4 regular in 2018 right when they started doing story arcs. It was the T-Pose Virus episode that just came out back then, and it reminded me of that morbid "Mario Plush Forever" series from way before that, so I thought I'd check it out. Turned out it was the second episode in a story arc, and one that was topical to the "no Waluigi for Smash Ultimate" bender I was on, so I dug more into it and was locked in ever since. And of course they were preparing to announce their first original animated show with Meta Runner at the time, so I'd say I jumped on board at exactly the right time.
As for what I feel, I do agree the latest episodes are mostly mixed bags lately (today's video about Beeg SMG4 and Eggdog was at its best when focusing more on those two than SMG4 and SMG3's bickering), though when it does something good, it's REALLY good. Plus I'm still invested in where things are going with that evil TV. Maybe I'll slow down a bit until Digital Circus comes out, and binge all the episodes with every new Glitch update.
As for Goose, I started watching her animation when Glitch started teasing their collab. Didn't notice she was the Thalasin creator until then. That "Banjo-Kazooie on shrooms" stuff was right up my alley, and I knew I'd be looking forward to Digital Circus before anyone even knew what it would be.
