I really hate how this controversy has been boiled down to "le chuds are mad the actresses aren't cute enough"
They are cute. They're just not Azula and Mai.
If anything it's extremely racist that leftists are implying that simply being an asian is good enough for them to resemble the characters.
Their wide round features in the live action do not at all resemble their sharp slim features in the cartoon.
I mean, a cartoon -> live action adaptation is going to end up with some concessions on art style vs real people. >inb4 dumping a folder of cosplayers who aren't actors
see og may not have been fat. and being skinny isn't necessarily an important trait of her character. but her being skinny was no coincidence. if you're not adapting the visuals of a visual work then what are you doing?
It's one of the things that I've noticed when Hollywood casts any Asian role in films. It doesn't matter if the character they're playing doesn't remotely resemble them, as long as they're Asian. It's as if the person who was in charge of hiring Asian actors for Netflix Avatar just said, "So you're Asian and you're female, which ticks all of the boxes. Okay, you're hired. Congratulations!".
Why can't they apply the same standard when they hire the actor who plays Ozai? The guy actually resembles the cartoon Ozai.
Scouting and shooting on location is expensive. Building sets are expensive, the characters in this show travel all over their planet, never staying in one place for more than two episodes, and they're in and out of different buildings and caves constantly even if they are still in one place.
I don't have an issue with cg i just think those look too fake
I'm usually hyper critical about bad cgi but it's okay in this show, especially the background. There were some really bad examples of it, the bending effects, the animals (which isn't the worst thing because they're all fantasy creatures), and they used cgi models instead of real actors for many of the stunts which looked terrible.

This is how all East Asian women have always looked. You might disagree. You might even have some evidence of the contrary. But you have to ask yourself: is this really worth losing my job over? This is how all East Asian women have always looked.
The virus thay causes down syndrome took over the mongol genome, but you need future planning and fine motor skills to farm rice. So they evolved around most of the downy limitations but still have the face and lack of empathy.
The right has northern Chinese facial features while the left is what more commonly seen in southern china, from where the majority of asian immigrants to the US came from.
>Minors born with square jaws exists
I really don't think Cinemaphile should condone Korean plastic surgery

>no one could ever possibly find chubby women attractive
That's not very nice of you anon
He literally said they were cute, they just don't look similar.
>I’ll show those chuds for calling someone unattractive
>I’ll call THEM unattractive!
Ok but then like. This isnt changing my mind. How does this get me to watch the show?
>How are they not Azula and Mai?
because the actresses aren't hot.
>They are cute. They're just not Azula and Mai.
unironically true but they would never listen
>anything it's extremely racist that leftist
Yes theyre the "real" racists. We know. They know. It's not a hill worth dying on.

Then why make it Live Action?

wtf are these cg backgrounds anyways
Avatar is set in a fictional world. They kinda have to use CGI to simulate the world.

They could also use a mix of CGI and miniatures like Weta's work on LotR. But they don't have the budget (or the passion).
