Overall, I'd say imperial units are a lot more intuitive in general, though the conversions between them are asinine. Anybody can figure out what a foot is because it's literally the length of a person's foot.

I took a freshman physics course in college, and every once in a while they would give us a problem with non-metric units. The only sensible way to proceed was to immediately convert everything to metric, and solve the problem, then convert the result back to the original units.

Europeans never compare something to the size of a football (soccer) field? Doubt.
I'm not even a sports guy but I do this because everyone knows how big a football field is.
They use metric in star trek and I'm always like "i have no idea if thats far or big...the frick is that unit?" Its been like three decades of this. Oddly i like it more when they just make up units in scifi.
