When a perfect and recent counterexample came up it turned to trying to steer the conversation away fast. Give me one recent (40 years or so) example of americans taking up their guns to preserve freedom and we can discuss. Otherwise you're the exact same with more mouth and less self awareness. The fricking Chinese took to protesting recently and made their government roll over on covid shit. And that's way more dangerous for them.

I'm in kind of a unique position when it comes to units, I grew up in America learning Imperial, but in college I learned and used metric quite a bit for my physics degree.
Overall, I'd say imperial units are a lot more intuitive in general, though the conversions between them are asinine. Anybody can figure out what a foot is because it's literally the length of a person's foot.
I will say American fluid units are fricking autistic and I've never understood them.
Overall, Imperial is fine for day to day, but for soiance, use metric.

A metre is approximately one adult stride. A centimetre is approximately one adult thumb width. You'll quickly learn how much of your own stride is a metre and how much of your thumb is a centimetre if you bother to look.

I took a freshman physics course in college, and every once in a while they would give us a problem with non-metric units. The only sensible way to proceed was to immediately convert everything to metric, and solve the problem, then convert the result back to the original units.

      >Anybody can figure out what a foot is because it's literally the length of a person's foot.
I've never understood this, because a foot is just 30cm, the size of every ruler. If something is 100cm, it's just "three foot and a third". 10cm is just 4 inches, and 1cm is just .4 of an inch.

Imperial is moronic in all cases.

It was initially a sublength of the distance between grenwich and the equator, but in the recent standardization they turned it into something to do with luminosity

Earth is 40 000 km around.
That's where the meter comes from, they just said frick it, whatever the distance around the earth is we're gonna divide into a reasonable unit.
Same with a second. It's just 1/86400 of a day, but in recent years it was changed to be the length it takes for some weird element to do some weird reaction or something.

        Anonymous

you are moronic and looking at it incorrectly
its not that they arbitrarly change how long a second is to be more modern and up to date
as technology improved, they measued how long a second is and events that happen over that time, to standardise it, for example how long light travels in 1 picosecond is a millimeter or something
its not that they adjusted the millimeter to line up with this, its that it already did and we just werent looking because we couldnt

        bonus points
        >a metre is not standardised, is based on a whim, and they just said frick it
        >but they considered the entire circumfrence of the earth in their 'frick it' and how it might reasonably be divided on a planetry scale and whether or not this was too unweildy

You can't stop replying even if you wanted, you're inflamed and don't know how to extricate yourself from the mess you made, or why you got into it in the first place. This is why you need to get a better control of your amygdala. It's not a good idea to lurk online with all the self-control of a Black looting a reeboks store.
