What is even the point of the right side style?
Cheaper.
The second style is still 3/4s but with less experienced artists. It would be even hard to animate action scenes then.
The season 1 style (which, don't get me wrong, was far superior) looked too much like Recess.
why did they change it?
Kim Possibles director got brought on board and didn't like the designs. Another example of TVs "if I didn't make it I don't like it" attitude
According to interviews, the Fairly Oddparents-esque "the characters are only meant to be seen at a 3/4 angle" made trying to do action scenes a complete pain in the ass, so the switched to a style that easier to animate.
S2 human designs are better but the change to Jake's dragon form absolutely does not make them worth it.
I'm OKAY with even Jake's form but nu-Susan is inexcusable

Honestly I liked the style on the right more.
Maybe cause the storyline wasn't as boring, but I remember early Jake Long being so generic.
S1 Jake was a very boring character and there were only a few episodes, mostly the ones with Rose, where he saw some development. S2's storylines were so much better.
I also just generally like S2's designs more, literally the only design I think was a significant downgrade was Grandpa's dragon form with its stupid head.

Season 2 was a soft reboot at best. The two seasons were almost entirely different shows.
