Read these books years ago and it's pure schlock with 0 nuance. The most entertaining aspect of the show is somehow every single change they made to the source material has made the story even worse. When you consider it, it's actually very impressive in a way.

it's mainly because the first few Witcher novellas which ended up as the collection called The Last Wish were just European fairly tales for kids, rewritten by Sapkowski and adding Geralt to the story

Will you idiots stop with this moronic meme? Only few of those short stories go into this territory and it's usually just some briefly mentioned trope or total, cynical deconstruction of some old tale.

You know she goes to her trailer after a long day with Henry and just rubs one out.

To be fair, it feels like most people who like Game of Thrones only really jumped on the bandwagon during season 4. (When it started getting dumber)

Im on season 3 episode 2 and saw this thing he fights on for like 3 minutes, i instantly thought of Elden Ring, there's multiple bosses who move and fight exactly like this.
I gotta ask, is this a thing from the books or does it show up in the games? I know the producers aren't fans of either, so i was wondering if the producers actually ripped off Elden Ring.

I know he's a shit producer trying to deny his own ineptitude, but he isn't wrong about Western audiences. Star Wars and Jaws are what lead to simple/shallow action blockbusters like the MCU dominating movies, and both are Western products.

He hated the games but not because they were unfaithful to the source material or anything, in fact they have more depth in many situations but that's bound to happen being 3 games with countless hours of dialogues and thought behind them them. No, he hated them because he made a very bad deal, he sold the rights for almost nothing because he expected the games to flop, for literaly scraps to the point CD Projekt tried to make him change his mind and accept a % instead. He hates them because they were super successful and he got almost nothing from them, he even sued but again got nothing because he chose to make a bad deal

Witcher Guy was like 97 year olds when the first witcher game was in development so in his old man mind it was impossible for a dumb kids game to ever match the legitimacy for storytelling for his franchise. >CD Projekt later approached Sapkowski for rights for the series. They were able to secure the rights for about 35,000 zloty (approximately US$9,500) from Sapkowski, who wanted all the payment upfront, rather than through royalties, even though these were offered to him.
            >In a 2017 interview, Sapkowski said that at the time he had no interest in video games, and was only looking at the deal from a financial benefit standpoint.

            >In October 2018, he filed a lawsuit against CD Projekt demanding 60 million zloty ($16.1 million) in royalty payments from the company for using the Witcher universe in their computer games. The lawsuit was launched despite the fact that Sapkowski had sold the video game rights to the Witcher for a single sum, rather than through a royalties contract.

            >CD Projekt released a statement claiming that the author's demands are groundless and that the company had legitimately and legally acquired copyright to Sapkowski's works.

            >On 20 December 2019, the writer and the company resolved the lawsuit with an amicable settlement. The company stated this deal was made in an effort "to maintain good relations with authors of works which have inspired CD Projekt Red's own creations." The details of this arrangement were not made public.

by the way the actual flat amount he sold the witcher rights to cd project for was $9300

and then later when the games blew up sued them for 2% of profit or so, which he calculated was 16million dollars, that was how much he wanted and eventually he settled with cd project outside of court of undisclosed amount but cd project only did it to be nice since he had 0 legal right for anything more than the 9300

This is wrong. There are laws in Poland that allow the IP owner to legally demand for more money if it is shown that they sold their property for far less than it is worth. This law exists so that IP owners don't get fricked over selling something for peanuts.

I'm not here to debate whether this is a good law or not, but CDPR absolutely did not pay this fricker out out of the goodness of their heart.

I get the feeling that Sapkowski never really wanted to write the Witcher novels and that he was kinda forced to because of the popularity of the short stories. His Hussite trilogy is what he really wanted to write about.

Then you know nothing about. He went into the Witcher quintology with passion, and spent a shitload of effort to make sure the various timelines of events would fit the many story threads, that there would be no plot holes etc.
However, it took so much out of him that by the fifth book he was completely exhausted with the characters, and also irritated by some in the fandom trying to force their various theories onto him (you could easily talk to the man in conventions), and so decided to make an ending that would be impossible to sequelize - kill almost every main character.

That would imply these writers and producers could have made something complex enough for anyone not to get, let alone an audience already into the books and games, and if you believe that is even in the slightest bit possible you're probably the dumbest person in the entire conversation. It is 110% fantasy so they can cope since like the other anon said, these types can never admit to mistakes. It wasn't their entire production philosophy, the priorities of the writers, their understanding of the material or their lack of desire to make something for fans of it, it was our fault for being too dumb for the complex masterpiece they wanted to make and had the ability or talent to do had they not been held back. Right. I'm sure that's what it was, who wouldn't have faith in these showrunners.

This is what get woke go broke sounds like.

i was puzzle why they cast her because to me she looks ugly, she has this weird square like face and i don't find her attractive at all
in fact in the whole show i struggled to find a single truly hot female, the milk truk witch is decent i suppose

Blame, blame, blame. That's all it is. This show should have been a mix of Xena/Hercules. Monster of the week, some myth arc and a sidekick to follow Geralt through the country. Not every fantasy show needs to be Game of Thrones.

      Anonymous

Yeah maybe. But WHO are they blaming?
You can talk about what it should have been, but in terms of what it was it was clearly meant for "modern audiences," and what I'm seeing in that post is the realization that "modern audiences" don't exists.

If anything he's blaming twitter for being lying hypocrites about what they really want. Which Cinemaphile was pointing out all along.

The first season the gamers brought a wide audience. The wide audience hated it for the politically correct reasons, the gamers hated it because it was wokeshit.
The second, thanks to a marketing campaign that promised to not be woke, only the gamers showed up, but it was woke which caused a full blown boycott of netflix from the audience that did not appreciate being lied to.
      The third season nobody watched.

So at no point did the "modern audience" show up. So in reality he's blaming nobody.

Typical producer rainmaking, if it succeed it was because of their smart business decisions, if it fails its always blamed on something else like the audience.
    >Not enough people chanted thats why the rain didn't come!

You can cope all you want but your audience was always going to be male dominated, at least for the first few seasons, and nobody was impressed by the girlboss diversity hire bait and switch.

Those reviewers that think it's just amazing how it's not just another white dude fights the monster, they don't pay for netflix, they're paid by netflix. It was my money you were after the whole time, and I didn't give it to you.

They probably didn't know this when they said it. But when they say "americans", they mean women and minorities. That's who they modified the show to appeal to.

Maybe instead of making a shitty fem drama filled with ugly subhumans you follow what made the IP so successful in the first place and make it a show about a hot metahuman killing shit and piping down hot b***hes.

The books aren't exactly the greatest works of art. But somehow the americans made them even worse.

by the way the actual flat amount he sold the witcher rights to cd project for was $9300

and then later when the games blew up sued them for 2% of profit or so, which he calculated was 16million dollars, that was how much he wanted and eventually he settled with cd project outside of court of undisclosed amount but cd project only did it to be nice since he had 0 legal right for anything more than the 9300

good neighbor Dmitry Glukhovsky always brings up without THQ adapting Metro into a video game his books would've never gotten popular outside Russia, and is on friendly terms with the devs to this day
      this
the israelitekosky only made 9300 directly from the games but indirectly probably at very least at least a million or more through increases book sales

shieeet i forgot the season 3 came out, so i just finished binging the whole thing today
here's my rating: s03 is worse than 01 but better than 02, which is very low bar 02 was so bland i struggle to recall single scene from it and it had almost no witcher in it.
s03 had more geralt screen time, but it was dreadfully slow where most of the time nothing was happening. that one episode where they wasted the entire episode going over that sorcerer party over and over again showing everyone's boring convos with each other made me want to rope, it was so boring.
there were only 3 good moments in the whole s03, the fight with geralt vs elves where he went through the portal, the fight geralt vs 3head girl monster at the castle, and the final fight at aretooza. thats it.. everything else ranged from boring as frick to mediocre as frick
so big fricking surprise, the only fun part of s03 was when witcher was doing some actual fricking witchering. and we get like 5 minutes of that in the entire season.
God i hope this show gets canceled so they can reboot it few years later with competent writers, they will have to, because studios like netflix are losing so much money with these work shows and movies they will go bankrupt otherwise.

i am so glad henry is out, without him they can't keep this ship from sinking fully any longer

anyone here seem blood origin? god i hope not, jesus what a pile of shit
blood origin is the witcher show the writers actually wanted to make, they were annoyed they had to follow the books for witcher, so blood orign is the one where they had full writing freedom and could do anything they wanted. and it's one of the worst fricking piles of shit in existence.
at this point both netflix and disney need to go brankrupt so we can see rise of small studios again making low budget but actually well written flicks

      >cd project only did it to be nice
This is wrong. There are laws in Poland that allow the IP owner to legally demand for more money if it is shown that they sold their property for far less than it is worth. This law exists so that IP owners don't get fricked over selling something for peanuts.

I'm not here to debate whether this is a good law or not, but CDPR absolutely did not pay this fricker out out of the goodness of their heart.

Frick these buttholes. They emblematic if every pseud that ever got handed a cushy job in a creative field. We’re not incapable of following a complex plot; they’re incapable of writing one, or are otherwise so disingenuous as to make of us a convenient fig leaf for their own laziness.

Im partway through season 3 and it’s a bit mind boggling at times.
    >geralt desperately wants to kill rience
    >they fight but geralt has to leave in a hurry
    >instead of taking a second to plunge his sword into his head he takes a second to break his arms and leaves
    >later he gets killed off in the most anti climatic way possible
    >same for that woman who can’t speak
    >they frame stragobor but then realise it was vilgefortz
    >vilgefortz gets captured and interrogated but geralt says nothing and does nothing despite being so upset about those girls who were being experimented on
    >nobody does anything and i mean anything while that woman whose name i can’t remember simply frees all the mages
    >cahir encounters ciri and for some reason now wants her to her to kill him even though he desperately wanted to get back to serving nilfgaard

To be fair i can barely remember much of S1 and 2 but does Ciri know Emhyr is her real father? Does Cahir? If so why didn’t he tell her?

Why does everyone hate Nilfgaard when their goals are the most noble and they seem the least evil? Unite the continent and live in peace with the elves.

that fight scene where those two mages connect their swords and now they both have to hold on the same sword and move it around is so moronic, that would make it 10 times as hard to fight with it
