An “Among Us” animated series is in the works at CBS Studios, Variety has learned exclusively.
The studio, via CBS Eye Animation Productions, has partnered with Innersloth, the independent game studio behind “Among Us,” to develop the series. Owen Dennis will serve as creator and executive producer on the project under his overall deal with CBS Studios.
Per the official logline, the series is based on the premise of the game, namely, “Members of your crew have been replaced by an alien shapeshifter intent on causing confusion, sabotaging the ship, and killing everyone. Root out the ‘Impostor’ or fall victim to its murderous designs.”
Titmouse (“Big Mouth,” “Star Trek: Lower Decks”) will serve as the animation studio for the series. Along with Dennis, Forest Willard, Marcus Bromander, and Carl Neisser of Innersloth will also executive produce along with Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, and Ben Kalina of Titmouse. No network or streamer is currently attached, but those conversations are said to be ongoing. CBS Eye Animation Productions produces in association with Innersloth. The show is covered by The Animation Guild rather than the WGA.
“Among Us” first launched in 2018 but saw a massive spike in popularity in 2020. In October of that year, it was number one on Google Play in 66 countries and in the top 100 in every country except for two. It was also number one in iOS in 55 countries. During Q4 2020, the game had nearly 500 million monthly active users, more than 4 billion views on YouTube, and more than 1.22 billion viewing sessions on Twitch.
Can't be any worse than infinity train season 3
Book 3 of Infinity Train was the best one
It was beyond moronic at every level
HOLY BASD. Cinemaphile CAN NO LONGER BAN ME FOR POSTING AMONG US! BASED BASED BASED! WESTERN ANIMATION IS SAVED!
I kneel Among Us poster, your brief period of shitposting paid off.
I'm still waiting on that Tetris movie.
it's already out
Not that one. The epic sci-fi.
There's two tetris movies? Jesus christ
>It's real
https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/among-us-animated-series-cbs-studios-owen-dennis-1235655516/
Wait why isn't the link linking to another article guys
…don’t go there
Mr Cinemaphile 2024 is going to be based as frick when an Amongus OC in the show is allowed
Seems a bit too late to turn the game into a show, don’t you think?
The games is still based
This.
Infinity train fan here, I'm not even surprised
>still remember talking to a Discord user who actually believed this cutaway was real
>talking to a Discord user
So what's the minimum number of houses you need to walk to whenever you move into a new neighborhood?
Will it live up to the pure cringekino that was the musical?
A few years ago Owen Dennis went on a rant on how everything is a remake or an adaptation and nothing is original anymore, and how you have to not support that stuff if you want more original stories. That means not supporting the "good" remakes, reboots, and adaptations. Now here he is adapting a meme game.
This is the cartoon equivalent of Tar's ending.
Among Us >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Pain(to watch)
>Infinity Pain(to watch)
HEY-O! GOTTEM! *deep fried memes fill screen while airhorns play*
Craig McCracken said something similar before the PowerPuff and Fosters revivals were announced. The absolute state of the modern animation industry.
But remember now, we're NOT in a second Dark Age because a couple of female characters in a kids cartoon went lesbo in the final few minutes of a show. So fresh and progressive!
For Craig was fair beacuse Netflix chopped his wife's show and rejected more than 20 ideas for shows after Kid Cosmic.
The interesting thing is that Disney Channel from all places is accepting original ideas as long as it stars woman
He hinted that his next show would have been about a villan organization/company being hired to do evil gigs basically Helluva Boss but good and without the fujos
>He hinted that his next show would have been about a villan organization/company being hired to do evil gigs
So just Villainous then
He had to work to eat anon.
That's fine but don't go on and say that type of bullcrap if you're not in a position to only do original stuff.
You can't always do original stuff if nobody is willing to buy.
Similarly, you can't stick to a narrow principle if you need to survive.
You are absolutely right, there is absolutely no problem with getting a job just to make money, but then he shouldn't have made statements like that proclaiming how terrible IP series are when he eventually crawled into one out of desperation.
Things change. I guarantee you that if Owen's opinion on the matter hasn't change, then he's seething on the inside for selling out. Whatever the case, grow up, he did.
>then he's seething on the inside for selling out
God I hope so
That son of a b***h had it coming.
Who demands an eight season show to tell the story but intentionally makes a filler season and had absolutely no exit plan in case he never got renewed?
This is the fate he deserves.
this, infinity train after season 1 has just about nothing going for it in retrospect
he's a hack and an butthole so he deserves this
Oh great, another fake article that Cinemaphile will surely fall fo-
>it's real
That fake Craig Mckracken article was right. We live in the worst era
I am in Infinity Pain
They're all playing Among Us
I assume they will reimagine the tiny blobs as actual space explorers with regular human bodies, and make it a true horror sci-fi show. But even so, you can never escape the joke that you're making the fricking Among Us tv show.
Forget it, it’s a comedy cartoon. They’re gonna keep those silly little blobs.
>One is about trust and othering
It is a kiddy version of The Thing in space not a story about a closeted gay, closeted teen in the 1980's south or something.
>not a story about a closeted gay, closeted teen in the 1980's south or something
You don't know that
>not a story about a closeted gay, closeted teen in the 1980's south or something.
It's definitely not about gays since he was too cowardly to pull that in season 4 of IT
Accidentally wrote closeted twice like a moron but you get my point.
You're right, the should make a cartoon where The Thing is a metaphor for being a closeted gay teen in the 1980's south
Really? How does capitalism even tie in with Among Us? This is so moronic.
I'd assume Among Us is the one about "trust and othering", not the one about capitalism.
>Among Us is the one about "trust and othering"
That sounds more like something that the Cheka, the NKVD, the KGB, the Stasi, the StB, the Securitate, the Khmer Rouge - and whatever Tito had - would do rather than capitalism.
It's the other one that sounds like a drama about racism or some shit. When you take away the $10 words that he is using to mask his shame it describes Amogus pretty well.
>Whats wrong anon, acting a little sus?
Among us is a perfect fit for an animated show. Don't pretend otherwise.
It's just a chibi version of Alien
You have neither played Among Us, nor watched Alien.
It'd be more like comedic chibi version of The Thing than anything
>It'd be more like comedic chibi version of The Thing than anything
You have neither played Among Us, nor watched The Thing
>99.99% of cartoons are comedies for children with 1 dimensional characters.
Not anymore they ain't
It has no characters, no plot, and no unique design elements. Maybe they can sign on Pewdiepie as a voice actor or something and milk children.
>It has no characters, no plot,
Black person 99.99% of cartoons are comedies for children with 1 dimensional characters. Get off your high horse.
It literally has no characters and no plot, dumbass.
>no characters
That's what the writers are for.
>no plot
Alien kills people in space, disguised as a crew member on a space vessel. That's the plot.
>no unique design elements
Yet is instantly recognizable, even when no direct reference is made.
My mistake, I'm sure it'll be a masterpiece. They should do the Michelin Man next.
>I'm sure it'll be a masterpiece
Well, you'd be the first, at least ITT. All I said was that it's a simple concept, which many cartoons are based on. There's "no characters" because all of the characters are player character. DnD also has "no characters," by the same logic, yet has tons of adaptations with many fleshed-out characters.
That doesn't mean it'll be good. It just means it's not out yet.
The Emoji Movie could've been good. Sony didn't want good, though; they wanted money. They even hired the director of a Disney sequel to cement that.
Give CBS this: they didn't hire the director of a Disney sequel.
>The Emoji Movie could've been good
There is no world where that would have happened
The world where they hired people who gave a shit?
Who gave a shit about what, emojis?
well, somebody could have take it as a challenge and try to think outside the box to create something interesting with it.
Kinda like what the Lego movie did.
What did the Lego movie do that the other product placement movies didn't?
>it had sovl
Okay but how?
>Kinda like what the Lego movie did.
LEGO is not the same as emojis. Lego is a toy all about creativity, so making a movie about creativity makes sense. The LEGO games also existed for a decade, and they were full of charm and fun humor, so it was proven it can be a movie. Nobody has ever done anything worthwhile with emojis beyond shitposts.
About making entertainment. They -could've- made the Emojis legitimately interesting characters. They -could've- come up with a creative story based on emojis, or even tech in general. They -didn't,- because most to all involved saw the whole thing as a paycheck.
>They -could've- made the Emojis legitimately interesting characters.
No they couldn't. They're fricking emojis.
Your lack of creativity is not a universal. Someone could see the variety of emojis, learn what they mean, decide which ones are characters and which ones are set pieces, and make something decent. A shame that guy missed the call for the Emoji Movie, huh?
Creativity must come from a place of sincerity, and you can adapt shallow products into a good story if there's some semblance of sincerity or joy to them. Emojis are not that. They are nothing except free reaction images you can use for your phone.
>you can adapt shallow products into a good story if there's some semblance of sincerity or joy to them
So yeah, there's hope for the Among Us cartoon yet.
then you admit there was no hope for an emoji movie, glad you finally came to your senses
I understand the core point he's trying to make.
The whole reason you brought up the Emoji Movie was to dismiss the Among Us cartoon. Now you're just saying
>okay the cartoon might be good
>still frick the emoji movie
I feel like the goalposts were in a different spot, is what I'm saying.
The point is you defemdomg the fricking emoji movie as an example that anything can be good. And that's not true, not everything can work, some shit is just garbage that should not be adopted. Didn't say that the among us cartoon particularly couldn't work, but your reasons to justify its existence weren't good enough.
>reasons to justify its existence
It's called "a lot more has been made with a lot less."
There has never been a lot done with anything as worthless as emojis.
Shut your c**t about your example for obviously-bad-idea-turned-obviously-bad-execution. I'm talking about what I said here:
>still defending emoji movie
Idiot
Literally where. Direct quote. Citation needed. Proof?
holy shit you're such an idiot
Thought not.
>there effectively is no source material
There is. It's called Among Us.
>such an unsubtle cashgrab is unlikely to get any better treatment
Was the LEGO Movie not an unsubtle cash grab? Or any number of other adaptations that turned out decent?
You certainly don't think much
>lol big dumb stinky poopy caca doodoo head
Insightful.
Obsessed
>lol i keep replying to you lmao rent free
Not how that works.
>lol i keep replying to you lmao rent free
Literally what you are doing right now and what you will be doing a minute after I post this. Obsessed.
>Literally what you are doing right now
Yes, it is what (You) are doing right now. Astute.
Knew it, obsessed
If you're constantly engaging with someone, that someone isn't the obsessed party. Just saying.
>If you're constantly engaging with someone
You're literally doing it right now, continuing to engage in this conversation.
You're literally doing it right now, continuing to engage in this conversation.
The quality of an Among Us show will be independent of the source material, since there effectively is no source material, but such an unsubtle cashgrab is unlikely to get any better treatment than emojis.
>Well, you'd be the first, at least ITT. All I said was that it's a simple concept, which many cartoons are based on. There's "no characters" because all of the characters are player character. DnD also has "no characters," by the same logic, yet has tons of adaptations with many fleshed-out characters.
I refuse to believe you are both of age and making this argument in good faith, it's one or the other at most.
With these excuses you can justify crap like the emoji movie
>no unique design elements
The very qualities that lead to the amogus meme make doodleman astronaut ill-fitted for an animated series. This project stinks of some high up asking what's hip with the kids these days.
>Included a whole among us car in the last season
Bravo Owen
He didn't know it then but he sealed his fate right there and then.
Can we leave Amogus back in 2020? Please?
It's a dead game, most of the players are bots, and it's just devolved into dead memes.
Show of hands for how many of you all watched sta studios among us youtube animations, they finished this year so thst they can focus on poppy playtime stuff.
Lmao
Well, technically this Among Us cartoon isn't a reboot.
it's certainly not original or new either
It’s a reboot and remake of the hit 2018 video game
no, just an adaptation.
Anon, I..
God, imagine if we got The Thing: The Animated Series as an 80's tie-in cartoon.
I thought Infinity Train was created by a girl
Just wait a few years
That train is already too late
I think this project might bring me back into western animation.
Will blue amogus be the wacky one? Which ones will be girls? I can't wait
amogus
>he doesn't like kino
>filtering spider and miles
weak
Sus
Japan went ahead again
Just here to laught at infinitygays...
HAHAHAIHDJAHHAHHHAHHAHAHHAHHAHHAHAHAHHSHAJDHHHWHAHHAHHAHAHA
Infinity Train was one of the last big studio western cartoons that was creative and didn't completely fricking blow so this bums me out. Hell, the last new thing I watched on CN before unplugging my cable box forever was Infinity Train: Book 2 which I really loved.
Now the creator is doing a cartoon based on a meme game that hasn't been relevant in ages.
I guess it is kind of his fault for wasting his final season on filler that nobody watched but still.
It is 100% his fault for thinking he would get 8 seasons in the middle of western animation going from cancellation to cancellation, and having the perfect setup to finish at least part of the story in a big way after the end of S3. But no, they had to do the so-called "breather season" because they were too cowardly to close a proper story.
Yeah, that was next level moronic. He got more seasons than most cartoons ever get and acted like he had seasons to spare. Even Steven Universe only got six and a movie and that was about as successful as these semi-serious modern kids cartoons have ever been.
Infinity Train had two production seasons, with each one split into two books. The 4th book would have already been outlined during the pitch for season 2, and it would have been far in production by time they were cancelled.
>Infinity Train was one of the last big studio western cartoons that was creative
Gregory Horror Show beat you to the punch, the last season even took place on a fricking train
>Gregory Horror Show
That's Japan
>one of the last big studio western cartoons that was creative
>Oh yeah well what about this obscure anime that ended in 2003?
What?
I mean Gregory Horror Show is cool and all but it isn't in any way comparable to what we are talking about even if we are including anime in the discussion which we explicitly weren't. We get at least one interesting and creative anime a year.
i looked on twitter on my break and i got so happy to see infinity train trending but only to find out that we are getting shitmong us and not a new season
If fricking Amogus is getting a show then I guarantee Friday Night Funkin' and Undertale is getting one next.
Cuphead got a cartoon as well, plus the success of the Mario movie makes me think that even more video games are going to get adapted for Cinemaphile media
>CBS Eye
So is it gonna be like a gag series? I can't imagine it being anything too serious. Maybe little episodes following a different crew each time with alternating scenarios.
oh boy, I can already see the disaster it's going to bring.
Is Amogus still popular?
No.
It's just popular enough to get a show, I guess.
I don't think the game itself is but the merch and memes are
The white guy is pretty sus.
Won’t it just be a ripoff of The Thing?
Amogus
I'm an old man and no longer know what the youngs like so I don't understand the whole amogus thing, I know it's one of them games for video but what's the deal, is there even lore or is just something you play like fall guys (inb4 they make a fall guys cartoon)
it's a fun murder mystery game that became really popular because of covid & because the characters are really identifiable and goofy looking
It's essentially a minimalist version of Space Station 13. You try to keep a space station running, and one or more players are a secret enemy that needs to kill the rest of the crew without getting caught. It works like town of salem where you vote to toss the suspected traitor out of the airlock.
You know that internet game Epic Mafia based on that IRL nerd game Mafia? It's basically that for attention-deficit toddlers who can't into logic puzzles and need to press a bunch of buttons every five seconds.
Screen cap this;
PINK IS A GUY
who cares
sus
Even in among us only white men will die.
This shit was so fricking moronic
>Grace is terrified of telling Simon the truth because she thinks he'l kill her
>when Simon finds out the truth he doesn't like her, but doesn't actually do anything to Hazel
>Simon only goes full schizo when he finds out Grace lied to her
>Grace had power over Simon so she could have just told him the truth from the start and he'd be pouty about it at worst
>Simon himself is a pathetic loser who can only kill people when they're in an extremely vulnerable position, struggles against a weakened Grace despite getting jacked
Trash season
Black person among us
