you've put expectations on it now saying it's good and that.. i'd just say let people know it's on and if they've got an hour spare they can give it a go and make their minds up but i'm not making any promises saying ah yeah it's brilliant a really good show definitely worth the time because you might end up not enjoying it and that.. so.. give it a go and that.. it's nothing mind blowing so don't be going in thinking that.. just going around places and that seeing what they're up to and if there's some things they do better or if there's some things you think what are they doing that for, surely that's gotta be better things they can be getting on with.. some of them are up to some right mad stuff like this indian fella who wraps his knob and bollocks around a stick for some reason.. so yeah.. idiot abroad.. check it out and that.. you might like it or you might think it's a load of rubbish.. alright.. yeah.. cya later then..
Sick of It was somehow better than After Life. The sitcom made by a dimwit middle manager from a radio station in Manchester who never went to school is better than the newest sitcom from the university-educated professional comedian and co-creator of The Office and Extras. Mad innit.
The UK mannerisms will grow on you, I remember when I was growing up I hated some of those mannerisms, but now I find it pretty endearing and authentic.
I always envy people like this. People who can do goofy moronic dances and still look good doing it because they dance with conviction and self-belief. When I try to dance even if I'm trying to look stupid I end up doing the same 2 or 3 boring moves with no rhythm.
I loved how excited he was about the freak woman being wheeled around in a carriage, to the point where he insisted he had to wheel her around himself
Freaks n that
Can any Karl connosseurs tell if it's all playing a character or if he's genuinely just dumb but at peace with how he is? The radio series that centers on two guys constantly berating him for how stupid he is feels a little odd to me.
It's just banter. It's the British way. He's legitimately not the brightest, mostly uneducated and has some genuinely moronic sincere takes on stuff sometimes. But he's also a very hard working and moderately successful person, having worked in several radio stations and being in a management position in XFM. He's also genuinely very witty and is as sharp as the two when it comes to comic timing. They don't look down on him as much as they make out, it's just how people treat their mates in Britain. You know you've settled into your new workplace when your colleagues feel comfortable enough to take the piss out of you constantly.
Watch this for an example of Karl's sincere stupidity, not hammed up for laughs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxlnSe6pg1w
Skip to 4 minutes if you want. Watch his face begin to look frightened and somewhat vacant, as he struggles to even follow the logic and the train of thought of the conversation.
He's right about pretty much every observation though. Ricky Gervais is on the sidelines giggling because his good friend is so ignorant of the ways of the world and how diverse and wonderful things like street food and absurd religious practices are to an untravelled western boob. But the so-called idiot is right. Traveling is a fricking pain in the ass for the most part and other cultures are inferior and only built up as exotic by white guilt liberal douchebags.
Any given episode >Steve visits a poor country and raves about what an enriching experience it was >Karl constantly sees the poverty for what it actually is
I agree with everything you say, but it is a bit annoying how Karl, despite his traveling and experiences simply does not change. For many things he remains as ignorant as he was in the beginning of the show. He refuses to change his mindset or attempt to see the beauty or necessity in aspects of foreign society or environment. Its a bit frustrating to see him not even attempt to try new things or develop an interest in new landscape/scenery. I'm not saying he needs to enjoy eating live octopus or a sketchy plane ride over NZ or whatever. But he really refuses to at least try and get halfway out of his comfort zone. I would have really liked to see him do the bungee jump the second time or have a sip of worm tequila for example. He cannot even be impressed by seeing some of the rarest animals like mountain gorillas or the Rhinos for example. Like how does someone not have any emotion in these scenarios? Hes just remains the same simple ignorant Manc, eating the same food, enjoying the same things.
>refuses to at least try and get halfway out of his comfort zone.
he strapped himself to the outside of a fricking airplane and did donuts in the sky. That's a lot more than I would do.
Im not angry. I love Karl. I just cannot comprehend how impassive and closed minded in while witnessing certain things. At the end of the day, he is undeniably ignorant.

Are you saying Karl is not naive as a person? Regarding foreign societies and that?
Karl is very quick to judge things that are new to him. After exposure to new things you would expect a person to be less judgemental and develop new interests. Maybe people do not really change at the end of day. But Karl is content with what he already knows and is uninterested in what he does not know.

I mean categorically untrue. You know how the spaniards reacted to seeing the marvels of Aztec civilization? They killed them all. You are just preaching some libshit nonsense that goes against human nature. We are all naturally close minded bigots.

This has got a bit heavy, can we do cheeky freak of the week?
nah. in s3 when he travels with the midge in china he eats all the shit and says it aint that bad and its the midge who gets freaked out and almost vomits. that is progress especially for a mank twat like karl. also what do you want him to say? that it is suddenly okay that pajeets burn their dead in the river where they swim in, or that chinks being disgusting on public transportation is okay, or that brazillian homosexuals are not annoying as frick?
i could go on forever.
nah Ricky always says how fricking terrible it must be to eat pajeet food and monkey skulls and swim in the ganges and so on. only steve is the fart sniffing traveler.
all people are swine, but non-whites are complete and total animals. Karl is noticing this without it being explicit. India, China and Mexico are fricking disgusting.
Xfm season 1 is the start of the best stuff. But i fell into them by watching the animated ricky Gervais show on YouTube, it's an easy entry but it's not as good as the earlier stuff. The cartoon is animated from segments of their podcast, when they already knew people loved listening to their drivel and the conversations were more planned and such. Everything is on youtube
>Miserable as hell >Feel like shit >Barely laugh these days >See this thread >Decide to rewatch Idiot Abroad >Lmaoing in first few minutes of Karl being in China in first episode
what boards would karl use? he'd use Cinemaphile to see if anyone was talking about elephant man and that. /x/ because there's more out there and that. and /wsg/ for the threads of the little monkey fellas who've got jobs now.
He might be on Cinemaphile discussing crisps and toast and that. He may also be on Cinemaphile sharing his theories and philosophies. And Cinemaphile of course, moaning about the Chinese.
so theres this fella right running this zoo and that right all by himself and he loves the animals and that but he's thinking it's really really hard work this you know taking care of all the different enclosures all day going over and sorting things out becaue the penguins are kicking off or the giraffes are nicking everyone's food and what have you..
anyway.. one day he comes into work and he sees this monkey he's got and that knocking about with all these little tiger cubs and that looking after em all and that and this fellas well impressed because the monkeys doing all the things you need to do looking after em and that and he thinks hold on.. gets an idea.. tries sticking the monkey in with the penguins and that and it's going really well he's sliding around on the ice playing with em and going swimming and all that and he's stepping in like the fela would keeping em separated and that when the males start kicking off with each other and that.. anyway.. monkey did such a good job with everything that the fella retired and he's got the monkey looking after everything running the whole zoo now.. mad innit? what dy'a think of that
disappointing that nobody said Cinemaphile. The man loves working with his hands -mentioned it multiple times - bathroom tiles, boiler, sink, bathroom etc.
The greatest moment was when Karl called Suzanne while in the middle of the jungle before a dangerous stunt and all they talked about was that the boiler acting up again.

Kino
This is still a take I think about from time to time. He has some great insights.
When are we going to get more Karl kino?
Even Sick of It was high art compared to most the garbage on tv right now.
karl only does things once
The Moaning of Life has some similar vibes
imo karl is only kino with steven and ricky
and this is true for
all 3 of them. xfm is the creme de la creme of entertainment.
>karl is only kino with steven and ricky
complete drivel. you're talking shit.

Well it's not even their show so the BBC have embarassed themselves there aside from all the kiddy fiddling stuff that they get up to.

I still remember when this came out, me and my senpai watched a few episodes. I enjoyed it but it didn’t change my life, glad he did well for himself.

Sure, but his outlook on life and world view remains the same. Karl as a person is the same in season 1 as he is today.

blimey here he comes having a go at winton
is ricky on the spectrum?
yes. he pissed the bed at 26 and still pisses in the sink when he is drunk.

What's he been up to lately? He hasn't starred in anything recently.

I prefer Moaning to Idiot, lack of Ricky being annoying alone make it better
