Milton is EU. The main canon has priority but other material is fine as long as it doesn't contradict the G-level canon.

Actually he's half right. Angels have no free will and so God forced Helel to start a rebellion. This is canon, and is said by Paul in Romans, but using Judas and Pharaoh as examples of the concept. Worse, those two humans had free will but were still compelled all because it would make all of humanity better. That's why Helel hates humans.

I believe that Lucifer ate the fruit of the tree of forbidden knowledge when he was tempting Eve and also developed free will, which is why things have been getting increasingly off script.

          Anonymous

Free will exists at creation and is inherent to humans. The forbidden fruit did not grant free will, just knowledge of right and wrong. Even if this is true, God can still force beings with free will to do what He wants so nothing should be "off script."

In Paradise Lost, wherefrom most people get their ideas about Satan and his "angelic origin", he has plenty of reasons.

In the Bible this whole narrative doesn;t exist.

Well Satan isn't one guy in the bible, it literally just means adversary.

Yes and if i recall correctly, stretching even further back, the name or rather the term 'satan' was used by Persians to mean worker or something akin to a kind of ancient 'lawyer'.

It can be thought of as like "Prosecutor" like in the legal sense. The way the book of Job depicts him is like being the prosecuting attorney sent by God who is acting as the judge to investigate Job.

I think somewhere in Mathew, Jesus said that Satan would disguise himself as a god of light, hence the Lucifer comparisons.

4-1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
        8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

You're thinking of Corinthians, which is a letter.
13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

No, it's more complicated than that. I an attempt to canonise the European pantheon early Christianity turned them all into Angels, divine beings that serve the one true God. As a result, Lucifer, the morning star, light-bringer and child and herald of Aurora was turned into Satan because of a mistranslation when it was translated from Greek to Latin. Odin and Baal were also depicted as being different faces of Satan.

        >because of a mistranslation

There was no mistranslation, people just wanted things to be more tidier in the narrative and just combined and inserted things from the new testament into the Hebrew bible in an attempt to make them have better continuity

This is like saying Hell is not a mistranslation of Hades. It is, and has confused billions of people. The Lake of Fire is not Hades, which everyone goes to when they die.

The people who wrote genesis had no concept of "Satan" or the devil. It was literally just a snake.

That's not true, the hebrew word for "snake" is later used in Genesis to describe the Seraphim, the highest of all the angels.

Satan doesn't want to serve humans, he believes he is above them. Btw he went after Eve first because God showed the angels him being born into humanity through a woman.

Lucifer and Satan are not the same.

The snake in the Garden of Eden wasn't Satan, either.

(The) Satan is "The Adversary" or "The Blasphemer" , and Lucifer fell from his position because he defied God and he was the highest of angels.
Snake in Hebrew is used to describe the Seraphim, which are the highest of angels. We can safely infer that they're the same being.

from my understanding is there is/was no lucifer and there are numerous satans but only one red dragon who still hasnt fallen until the time of revelations but what i dont understand is has the war in heaven already been faught or is that still yet to come? also the watchers were also disobedient angels who are stuck on earth

He was teasing them with the one thing that apparently separated them from God, knowledge of good and evil. He claimed that God didn't want humans to be like Him and thus told them to avoid that fruit. In their lust for this power they disobeyed God and that knowledge they gained is what prevented them from living in Eden. God was trying to protect them by telling them not to eat it.

I recently re-read the Old Testament and contrary to popular belief it sounds like the fall was almost entirely Eve's fault.

I think modern Christians like to omit this detail.

    >And then, one day, for no reason at all

    >This is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah says: “You were the model of perfection,*
Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eʹden, the garden of God. You were adorned with every precious stone—Ruby, topaz, and jasper; chrysʹolite, onyx, and jade; sapphire, turquoise, and emerald; And their settings and mountings were made of gold. They were prepared on the day you were created. I assigned you as the anointed covering cherub. You were on the holy mountain of God, and you walked about among fiery stones. You were faultless in your ways from the day you were created. Until unrighteousness was found in you Because of your abundant trade, You became filled with violence, and you began to sin. So I will cast you out as profane from the mountain of God and destroy you, O covering cherub, away from the stones of fire. Your heart became haughty because of your beauty. You corrupted your wisdom because of your own glorious splendor. I will throw you down to the earth. I will make you a spectacle before kings. Because of your great guilt and your dishonest trading, you have profaned your sanctuaries. I will cause a fire to break out in your midst, and it will consume you. I will reduce you to ashes on the earth before all those looking at you. All who knew you among the peoples will stare at you in amazement. Your end will be sudden and terrible, And you will cease to exist for all time. - Ezekiel 28:12-18

Satan didn't rebel just for no reason at all. He had looks, high status and was full of wisdom but still wanted to be worshiped as a God instead of being humbled enough to enjoy his position in heaven.

Satan was just an unthankful prick that let his ego get in the way and he was so butthurt that he wanted to take the human race down with him which he did with Adam and Eve
