The rates of lung cancer are no higher in smokers than they are in non-smokers once you factor out all the other contributing factors (family history, occupation, location). There is lots of cancer that smoking does cause (mouth, throat, stomach, eye) but lung isn't on the list. And there are lots of lung diseases smoking causes (emphysema, bronchitis) but cancer is not on the list.

In fact the connection between lung cancer and smoking is encouraged by tobacco companies since it was easier for them to win that court case than any of the literally hundreds of other conditions for which smoking is a causal factor, including the big one which is heart disease.

He probably got lung cancer by inhaling Radon which is a radioactive gas present in the soil of much of North America released by plowing or construction work.

      Anonymous

      >He probably got lung cancer by inhaling Radon which
yeah, you dont have to theorize some crackpot theory. He spent half his life in smokey nightclubs and the other half in bingo halls wrestling women and Lawler for nickles.

        Anonymous

Radon isn't really crackpot as a contributing factor at the very least depending on the area. It's literally everywhere but most people just choose to ignore it. Ignorance doesn't stop it from being a radioactive particle though.
Pic related are my radon numbers this year, and this is considered low

          Anonymous

Bananas are radioactive. Soil is radioactive. Sitting in an airplane gives you a big radiation dose because you lose some of the cushion of the atmosphere.
Radon is something that shows up on a societal level, population level, and they try to fix it because statistically it pushes the risk up a little bit.
On an individual level, if you drive without your seatbelt a couple of times you will have taken on more risk than a lifetime of living in a radon house. These are extremely small dice rolls that show up once you study populations in aggregate.

Objectively false on so many levels, how and why do you morons like you exist

Smokers are obviously dramatically overrepresented in lung cancer cases

        Anonymous

They are because smokers are also overrepresented amongst the poor who tend to have jobs like agriculture, construction, and mining that exposes them to a lot of fine particles, and in North America, radon.

Radon is radioactive, it causes cancer.

Radon deposits are prevalent underneath almost all of the midwest, basically from texas to hudson bay. And that is where you find smokers with lung cancer, it's also where you find non-smokers with lung cancer, but you also find a lot more smokers in those regions.

Another place you find a lot of smokers is in southern france and northern italy, but you don't find high rates of lung cancer there because no radon and less construction and mining.

But if you're a midwestern farmer with a family history of cancer, you can smoke your heart out you're getting cancer regardless. And the tobacco companies fricking know it which is why they tried the test case (the one that sets the precedent) specifically on lung cancer cases in Kansas. That's how they bought an extra 30 years of selling cigarettes to children.

TO THE unbelieving materialist, man is simply an evolutionary accident. His hopes of survival are strung on a figment of mortal imagination; his fears, loves, longings, and beliefs are but the reaction of the incidental juxtaposition of certain lifeless atoms of matter. No display of energy nor expression of trust can carry him beyond the grave. The devotional labors and inspirational genius of the best of men are doomed to be extinguished by death, the long and lonely night of eternal oblivion and soul extinction. Nameless despair is man’s only reward for living and toiling under the temporal sun of mortal existence. Each day of life slowly and surely tightens the grasp of a pitiless doom which a hostile and relentless universe of matter has decreed shall be the crowning insult to everything in human desire which is beautiful, noble, lofty, and good.

Anon, you get cancer every day.
    All over your body.
It’s just that normally those cells can be handled by your immune response. You can get cancer that becomes dangerous any time it mutates resistance. Once you get old you will likely have ongoing cancers in your body; prostate cancer in men is virtually certain over time - the thing is most cancers are also slow growing, so slow you’ll die before they become a problem.

Your body wasn’t built to last. Everything you do is destructive. Being bombarded with radiation from the sun is enough to start fricking up your DNA which can start a cancer. Yes, sunlight is enough to hurt you. Skin cancer is incredibly common. But even metabolic processes produces free radicals that can break you down. Yes, just eating food is dismantling you.
You’re a blob of goo that needs to stay intact long enough to breed. Since you’re here you’re not likely to. Let’s call it nature’s little mistake.

Wrong, you have no clue. I nearly bled out and the closer I got to the end the less pain I felt and the calmer I was. There is nothing to fear, it's like falling asleep only it lasts quite a bit longer.
I think I hate the kind of person you are most of all. There's a certain archetype that upon encountering any person "stronger" than them they immediately need to find ways to tear that person down to their level, even if there are no levels and it's just a difference in perspective.
Anyway, the next time you talk about something, make it something you've actually experienced instead of posturing like you know what's up. You don't.
