Cool. Does this mean we'll get well written stuff?

It depends if the writers actually decide to step up their game now that they're being paid more

Comic books, movies and live action TV Shows have sucked dick for a decade now too, TV Shows got even crappier and movies felt like TV Shows while comic books also felt like fanfic TV Shows.
The Flash movie and TV series debacle was hilarious. "Hey you guys doing a parody, right?" "Umm no, we're doing a movie" "Oh you mean like those wholesome amateur Youtube movies where you pay your actors 2 sandwiches, right?" "Umm... no... our budget is actually $200 million" "Those costumes look worse than DC convention contest costumes"

TV shows still put out great content, stuff like BCS and Stranger Things season 4 (yes, I know 2 was shit and 3 was crap, but season 4 is actually pretty damn good) prove that good writers are still out there in the TV space.

Hahaha, getting in a position where they can't be fired making them work harder.

Nah, sadly I don't see job security leading to better job ethics.

        That's a riot.

Yeah that's not happening. Anyone who was already working hard still will, and anyone who isn't will realize they basically get more money without having to do any extra work, so they won't.

My pessimistic answer is no, the writers' guild still disbanded and there is still nobody out there to teach these moronic millennials and gen-zombies how to write. There's still the problem of executives, producers, directors modifying the scripts to pretend they deserve their wages by sabotaging the script.

      >Does this mean we'll get well written stuff?

No. In fact it'll be harder to get rid of bad writers.

Bad writers still have to job hunt like everybody else. For every bad writer in the union, there are a dozen better writers in the union.

For now. Good Writers will focus on the work and not backstabbing cutthroat actions. Bad Writers will get rid of good ones so they don't look as bad.

At any rate this will mean producers will be doubly careful about approving fanfic-tier scripts.
That is, if they can shake off the nepotism.

What this does is guarantee a minimum piece of the budget pie for shows over a certain budget. What's likely to happen is:
      1. For big shows, some budget will be reallocated from the outsourced animation or voice acting. So fewer name voice actors, or cheaper foreign voice actors, or cheaper animation from studios that low-ball bids.
      2. Lower budgets to avoid the rule completely.
There's no incentive for writers to be better.

    >$25,000 or more
Damn that's low. No wonder TV output is pretty mediocre on average.

It's per minute. That's 275k per script. Is that still low in your opinion?

        Yes.

Anyone know how much writers are each paid for various stuff like live action TV Shows, original animated shows? I already know they're paid a lot for movies.

        Anonymous

That is not 275k per script, that's 275k per episode.
It's saying that shows budgeted at 275k per 11-minute episode (or 550k per 22 minutes) will be required to pay a minimum wage as determined by the union. Shows with a lower budget than that are presumably exempt from this.
In other words, get ready for a lot of cheap looking shows and unknown Canadian voice actors.

Good news for shows like Smiling Friends considering how cheap that show supposedly is to make.

I bet the crew on that is already paid well despite the lower budget, because it's a smaller group and a truly creator-driven show in that they're doing most of the writing themselves.
            Go-getters don't need union protection.

Plus they don't have any personal servants/helpers something that Zack mentioned that he prefers money not being wasted on that. Notice when watching Rick and Morty recently that Justin Roiland has helpers or whatever you call it. Basically people who get paid to bring coffee and snacks.

Nah I think cheap shows will be fricked as much as expensive ones if they can't merchandise it.

More commercial shows and less adult content that doesn't have a merchandise market.

Isn't the animation studio they hire at least partially funded by the Aussie government?

It's Bento Box. It's Fox. It's entirely possible they further sub-outsourced the work, but we wouldn't know.

Good but at the same time this realistically means studios won't have the money to greenlight as much shit.

But then again, are any western studios even greenlighting any interesting shit right now in the first place?

      >are any western studios even greenlighting any interesting shit right now in the first place?
Depends on what you consider "interesting". Either way, it's only gonna get worse from here

      >this realistically means studios won't have the money to greenlight as much shit
It kind of wouldn't. The minimum is likely based on a percentage of the budget, which means the more they pour in, the more expensive the writers/storyboarders would become, so there's really no incentive to raise budgets. It's more an exercise in shifting money around. The most likely place to cut would be the animation, which is what I've been saying since the whole new deal thing started.
