>Writers in a development room will now be guaranteed a minimum of 10 weeks of employment and, for Article 14 writers (other than Story Editors or Executive Story Editors), the week-to-week rate will increase by 43.8% over the current rate, raising the rate from $9,888 per week to $14,214 per week.
This means, if an animation writer is working a whole 52 week year they get paid $739,128 at minimum wage. Is the content we are getting worth that price?

Shows like Velma existed specifically because the old deal was so bad, so yeah.
Explain
Work long hours for shit pay = Incentive is quantity over quality. Turn in shit product.
Work normal hours for good pay = Incentive is quality over quantity. Turn in better product.
Theoretically, because they need to spend more money and manage their time better, that means companies will have to be more mindful of where their resources go, and they won't want to pay a surplus for bad writing.
This is all theoretically, we'll have to see how it plays out in the end.
Work brief hours for great pay = no incentive to make a marketable product. Turn in masturbatory garbage
but then there's the rub: a studio doesn't want to invest tons of money to get a product that flops. If they get garbage after sinking so much cash into it, the writer won't get anymore work.
Already true
Cept for those that are shit but have connections. Hell that kinda loop will only make things worse.
We don't know if it'll make things worse, better, or exactly the same. We won't know until its been in place for a year or two.
So just about time for them to rile up for the next strike?
If it means we get more female butts in animation, absolutely
With all this strike shit backing them, they will likely get even worse. They were overpaid to begin with and now they get more money for the same amount of work, or less.
>barely can afford a living
>overpaid
Sure
If you are making $150,000 a year and can't afford to live you have zero idea how to budget any money and are not worth the 150,000 you are making
Do you live in CA, anon?
Anon you only need about 85,000 to live in NYC comfortable and that's the same level if not more then Burbank
They are actually getting into the 1% elite territory here
>t. doesn't know anything about living
there are cheap places to buy groceries in CA
not everything need to be bought at that rich meme grocery store, Earwon
They could commute.
Hell they just need to "work from home" as they all use fricking zoom meetings now, that b***h who wrote Tiny Toons and has only worked on weird internet videos has this big ass mansion in Arizona
This entire "you have to live in LA and pay $6000 monthly rent" is a fricking lie
You and I know it's a lie, but a lot of people move to LA believing it's true.
That is genuinely fantastic
>Consumers begin addicted to outrage and only pay attention to content that pisses them off
>Producers create content that pisses them off
>Consumers pay a lot of attention to that content
>”WOOOOOOOOW WHY ARE YOU GETTING PAID SO MUCH WOOOOOOOW”
>This means, if an animation writer is working a whole 52 week year they get paid $739,128 at minimum wage. Is the content we are getting worth that price?
but thats the point, they don't work the whole year.
most wga writers work for one show, and when that wraps for the season, they're unemployed until they get hired for something else or the show comes back.
That does not sound sustainable at all, specially in a constantly shrinking industry whose jobs are moving to Japan and Korea.
That will make no difference to us though, they stopped making good content nearly 20 years ago
