turned this movie off halfway through.
the animation was nice though.
It is rubbish. I like it though because of the animation and music, and set pieces etc.
But it's batshit nonsense with a awful writing.

basically this
1995 Ghost in the Shell is like this too
many such cases
>1995 Ghost in the Shell
>5 minute bullet reloading scene
Unlike Gits, Akira isn't a dry, sterile, info dump.
> But it's batshit nonsense with a awful writing.
The actual story is straightforward there just isn’t a character explaining it in some infodump. In the world of Akira the next level of humanity isnachieved and random kids are being born with the power to manipulate matter and energy. Akira was the first; Tetsuo was the second. The film is just everyone reacting to this walking disaster of a person who cannot control his powers.
There are sci-fi novels with similar premises like Childhood’s End.
Akira was esper 28 and Tetsuo was 41
What level was the old man?
It was beautiful to watch, but once he found the ... psychic children, and the building explodes, and he flies out the window, I just nodded, and turned it off. I just couldn't understand what the frick was happening.
Is the no mental imaging/internal monologue npc meme real? I understood and followed the movie straightforward when I was 8 years old
I don't know, man. I watched both The Maltese Falcon, and Captain Blood recently, and had no problems watching them, despite their age; so it's not my attention span. It just seemed like shit happened without much reason, to lead to the next set piece.
Not enough trannies and black women for you?
>Trannies and Black folk out of nowhere
Meds.
Now .
>turned this movie off halfway through.
i turn every movie off halfway through, my internet destroyed brain cant pay attention for longer than that
i just turn it back on later after i get some internet time in
>turned this movie off halfway through.
somewhat understandable, though it does have some interesting scenes towards the end that you're missing out on. I was pretty put off by Akira for a long time and didn't really understand all the hype. To me, it was just okay. I gained a much higher appreciation for it after I read the manga and then realized that my issue with the movie was the fact that they condensed the story so much that it ruined the pacing and made it difficult to understand what the hell was even going on. The manga brought much needed context to all this flashy shit that was happening on the screen.
the soundtrack is kino
the screenwriting is le bad
>the screenwriting is le bad
The film is only like 1/3rd of the story. It's like ending with The Fellowship of the Rings with a weird alternate ending.
Not that the story was especially great, but it's still an unfinished plot in the movie.
Nice step up from Columbia House
If you like anime, I cannot respect you. I'm not sorry.
What did you think was of Beautiful Dreamer?
Not that anon, but I liked all the parts that weren't weird shit. The animation was good, and I really liked the montage, in the middle of the film, where the group was having summer fun. But it would eventually to back to the odd wish mechanic, and it's exposition, when I just wanted to see Lum do more shenanigans, instead.
I'm gonna be honest, I don't care for Akira. The art and animation are really good but the movie itself just felt like two hours of stuff exploding and people yelling. After everyone has been talking it up as the pinnacle of Cyberpunk anime I was extremely dissapointed. I feel like I only enjoy Japanese cyberpunk if Chiaki Konaka is writing it.
I can't even say it's a product of its time, Totoro came out the same year and I still find that one perfectly enjoyable and see why it's considered a classic.
thats not anime
thats japanimation
big difference
Akira is simpleton-core.
>simpletoncore even though it filters midwits who don’t get it aka (You)
>The Criterion Collection
useless
This movie is shit, abhorent juvenile shit. Really makes one realize no one actually watches movies anymore, they just parrot opinions to fit into some 'fandom' or 'space' because they're maladjusted losers.
How can you say that when it made blade runner look like disney land.
If you think this chink shit is better than Blade Runner, you're lobotimized.
How tf did the creator do almost nothing good out of Akira?
The akira manga is excellent, what are you talking about? The creator got burned by steamboy's failure and has done basically nothing interesting since then, but there's plenty of interesting stuff like legend of mother sarah.
You basically just have to watch Akira and you're done with all anime.
Akira is for synthwave redditors and poser b***hes. Ghost in the Shell is certified kino.
>a..
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
Paprika
Patema Inverted
The Tale of The Princess Kaguya (anything Ghibli really)
Fullmetal Alchemist
Hi no tori (Phoenix)
86
Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet
Robotech (a.k.a. Harmony Gold's Macross)
Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song
Captain Tsubasa
Erased
All worthy to be adapted into live action (if Hollywood could), except for pic related which already has.
>(if Hollywood could),
They can't and won't. Don't encourage them. I'd rather have a group of weirdos in some third world shit hole make an unlicensed fan film. I guarantee it'd be more entertaining than anything Hollyisraelite could shit out in a million years.
I fricking hate latinxs so fricking much, they love deepthroating this old homosexual shit because they're 40y behind the rest of the world and this is the only movie they could download in their W98 stolen PCs.
nice take
however
>be me in the mid 90s
>12 years old
>watching SciFi channel late on night
>this starts
>I have no clue wtf i am watching
>stunned silence after, still have no fricking clue
>seek out all anime at my local small video store
>Ninja Scroll, Angel Cop, Vampire Hunter D
>Violent, gritty adult shit that I couldnt get anywhere
>30 years later
>every anime is cutesy borderline pedo shit about school kids with powers/martial arts/small pet creatures
What the frick happened? Why did Japs get so gay?
>be me in the mid 90s
late 20th century*
>every anime is cutesy borderline pedo shit about school kids with powers/martial arts/small pet creatures
pedo shit is no longer mainstream, old man, the last one released more than a decade ago.
Just do what I do and refuse to acknowledge that the 90's ever ended. Life is better this way.
>What the frick happened? Why did Japs get so gay?
Believe it or not, nothing happened.
Well okay something did happen, but let's be totally honest here, the borderline pedo shit with powers and small pet creatures were around back then too; distributors in the US however found the gritty, violent and sexual content a lot easier to sell since it was ANIMATED but also NOT FOR KIDS - in fact, I think one of the big shots at Central Park Media or whatever was absolutely obsessed with MD Geist for some reason, which is why it got a full on fricking special edition treatment on DVD - so back then that shit was the first encounter most Americans had with anime, outside of shit watered down for television like Voltron or Battle of the Planets.
I had to turn this off like fifteen minutes in. It was the future so they were also speaking this weird future language and rode bikes and then the wrinkled kid shows up? It was confusing and made my brain hot. I had to turn it off to cool down the my brain
worst bait I have seen in minutes, you should have a nice day now and then improve your writing skills.
as I said here
the movie is difficult to really appreciate without reading the manga. It would have been much better as an OVA series or something.
I knew before even entering this thread that plotgays would be b***hing. LOL.
